Chapter 4: The Party Begins
Two hours passed, and Mario forgot to tell them about Morton Koopa Jr.
"Mario," E. Gadd said meekly, "I'm sorry we had to take apart your present to revive Luigi." Luigi had previously connected the wires improperly several times, insisting it was the proper way to do it. He continued doing it until he was reduced to ashes, and Mario allowed Gadd to take apart his mechanical gift to change it into a S.K.I.N.-2-flesh 8000. Gadd was tinkering with the device continuously, and oddly he repeated some of his actions pointlessly. "Just one more... Hey!"
"What's wrong?!" Mario jumped up.
"Nothing for sure, but... it appears that this gear is not formed the proper way for this device to serve as a Do-it-Yourself Zess T. Pasta Griller. If I gave you this device this way, it would explode in your face the instant you turned it on!"
"... Great," muttered Luigi's ashes.
"Hey!" Mario exclaimed. "I forgot to tell you guys... I saw Morton Koopa Jr. running off earlier, after we saw the news report."
"Uh oh," Gadd
cried. "I hope that'll be the first and last Koopaling we see."
At the castle, the guests were piling in. Donkey Kong and Diddy arrived to pilot the DK Blimp, which would take all of the guests to a parade for Mario on Yoshi's Island. Yoshi came to enjoy the party and taste-test all of Chef Toadette's recipes. Birdo followed Yoshi to the party. Daisy came to spend some time with Luigi. Wario and Waluigi came to crash the party, if it wasn't cool enough for them. Mario's many friends showed up, from the Bob-omb Buddies of the Bob-omb Battlefield to the Great Gonzalez's fans in Glitzville.
"It time for Mario Party!" Yoshi cheered.
"ANOTHER ONE?!" Wario questioned.
"Oh. No. Those games stinko. Yoshi mean time for Mario surprise party!" Everybody sighed in relief.
"Ah," Daisy spoke up, "just one problem, Yoshter. WHERE'S MARIO?"
"Right here," replied you-know-who. Everyone turned their attention toward the entrance to Peach's Castle. There, obviously, was Mario.
"Hmph. Hey, fatty." Wario groaned.
"Hey!" Daisy cried. "Where's Luigi?"
"I'm here! I'm here!" Luigi rushed in, with a black, deformed hand. "Oops. Guess the device isn't in full effect yet."
"W-wow, Daisy!" Waluigi shouted. Hearts formed in his eyes. "It's like you have the ability to summon people!"
"Heh... Yeah... Um... Where's Gadd?" At that moment, Professor E. Gadd showed up.
"ALL RIGHT!" Peach exclaimed. "Mario's here, Luigi's here, Gadd's here, and the cake's in process! Only one hour 'til the party starts."
"ONE HOUR?!"
Morton slowly and tiredly hiked his way back to Bowser's castle. It wasn't a very pleasant trip, and the hike up seventy-three floors to reach the throne room made it worse.
"M-mission accomplished." Morton fainted.
"Yo! What's the deal wit' that?" Roy asked. "Only two words and he's out cold?"
"Never mind," Clyde said.
"Hey!" Toadi said. "Isn't never mind two words?"
"Meep," Clyde said dryly.
"WHO CARES?!" Toadie shouted. "The point is, Morton 'fixed' Mario's present! Right?" Obviously, there was no answer from the passed out Koopaling, but the Toads and Koopas had already heard him say "mission accomplished", so Toady explained the next move.
"All right," Toady began. "First we'll need two Koopas for this mission." Iggy and Lemmy "volunteered". "Now, what you're gonna do is head to Mushroom Castle, and while nobody's around, you must somehow sneak into the first floor kitchen. That's where the cake's baking."
"So, what we do," Iggy said, "is plant something dangerous in the cake?"
"Pardon my pig Latin," Toady said, "but au contraire once more. You're gonna eat the cake!"
"Hooray!" Iggy and Lemmy both cheered for the mission they got, but their cheering was interrupted by Wendy.
"Objection!" Wendy cried.
"Woah, Phoenix Wright. Whassa matta wit chu?"
"Me? You're the one using that dumb slang. Anyway, I want to come on this mission!"
"Actually, my dear, we have a special mission in mind for you."
"Ooh ooh ooh! What is it?!"
"Surprise," Clyde said. He chuckled to himself.
"Well," Toadi
said, "you two best get going." And with that, the Koopaling twins set
off.
Chapter Five: Koopa's First Failure
After stealing Morton's cannon, Iggy and Lemmy aimed for Mushroom Castle and blasted off.
"So," Lemmy said in mid-air, "do you want to take the top layer?"
"It depends on the type of cake. And maybe we can leave a bit of frosting left and with our fingers, we'll mark 'The Koopa twins were here!'" Iggy cheered.
As Yoshi fetched fuel for the DK Blimp (and maybe snag a few snacks while in the kitchen), Peach was maniacally laughing. "Yes..." she whispered to herself. "Mario's party shall be... perfect... Hee hee... HAW HAW HA HAAAH!"
"Peach!" Mario cried to the princess. "Are you okay? You seem to be hyperventilating. Or, at best, just having an episode."
"No, Mario... I'm... f-f-f-fine... Heh heh... har har HAAH!" At the instant Peach stopped her crazy laughing, a crash was heard.
"Eep!" Yoshi cried. He had just fetched the bananas and was about to leave the kitchen. But it appeared that some guests had dropped in, and had other plans for him.
"Okay, listen up, dino breath. If-" Lemmy said.
"You tell anyone about this little-" Iggy continued.
"Meeting, we'll make your life-"
"MISERABLE!" the two finished.
"No way!" Yoshi replied courageously, although still a bit frightened. "Y-Yoshi not letting bad Koopalings get away with scary Bowser's plans! Yoshi tell Princess!"
Iggy held up a giant watermelon. Yoshi taped his mouth shut and left with Iggy's bribe.
"All right, Bro.
Now that we got that egghead out of our way, we can swipe the cake quietly..."
Away from the Mushroom Kingdom, Kastle Koopa, and Plit in its entirety, the evil spirit of Dimentio, Mario's previous enemy, made his way to Dimension D, the long-abandoned area created by the sick and twisted Dimentio himself.
"Ah ha ha ha ha ha... These shape-shifting powers are great... It's too bad I couldn't persuade you to give them to me sooner." Dimentio laughed to himself, then looked into his secret dungeon, behind the green wall of his dimension. "Wouldn't you say so, pals?" He laughed at the arachnid and the Duplighost inside his dungeon and closed it up. "With these powers, I'll soon betray those fungus fools and make them all pay!" And with that, the spirit disappeared.
In the dungeon,
the sheet looked at his cell mate. "We have to get out of this place...
and warn those slick guys!"
Back at Kastle Koopa, Clyde had just come back from the sandwich shop on the ninety-third floor, and had ham for everybody.
"Well, Clyde," Toady joked, "at least YOUR mission is complete. I wonder what's taking those Koopa twins so long."
"Well, they're not exactly known for their speed," Ludwig told him. "In fact, Lemmy is slow in both the running way and the thinking way. Woohoohoo! Ooh..."
"I don't care," Toadie said. "We haven't got much time to unwind the next plan." Toadie then explained how it would work. One of the Koopalings would follow the DK Blimp to Yoshi's Island, and use a Super Scope to shoot it down.
"Of course, you'll be following them in our first-class hotair balloon." Toadee showed them a filthy, patched-up hotair balloon attached to a picnic basket.
Roy became hysterical
at the sight of the balloon. "Wow! I feel sorry for whichever one of you
suckers has to ride that thing." He crossed his fingers. "Morton, Morton,
Morton..." he said under his breath. Then, Bowser, Roy's siblings, and
the Toads stared at Roy. "Ooh... uh oh."
Peach was talking to Mario in front of the DK Blimp, which was being boarded by all of the guests. "So, I figure that we'll be at the parade for about an hour and a half, and then we'll come back for cake and gifts. Sound good?"
Mario liked the thought, and knew that Peach would go into another fit of rage if he said no. "That's great, Princess!" And Mario boarded the blimp. Peach entered the Castle one more time to make sure everything was ready. As she checked the throne room, Chef Toadette found Toadsworth in the closet.
"Toadsworth?! How on Plit...?! What are you doing in here?!"
While Peach was in the dance hall, Toadette and Toadsworth were in the kitchen.
"Chiseling Chain Chomps! Galloping Goombas! Look at this mess! And those... those Koopas!"
Apparently, Iggy and Lemmy had an allergic reaction to the cake and ended up passing out on the floor. This had also caused them to lose their rainbow hair, and their heads swelled up. "Well, that's great," Toadette said. "When the princess sees this, she's gonna lose it. Like, permanently."
"Wait... I've got an idea. But it'll require a lot of paint."
"Uh, how 'bout food coloring?"
The princess made her way to the kitchen from the concert room, and Chef Toadette and Toadsworth had taken a different route out of the castle. "AAAAIIIGH!!" That was her only reaction when she saw the Koopa twins and the ruined cake. However, the Koopa twins no longer looked like the Koopa twins. They were covered in a variety of different food colorings, and they greatly resembled Chef Toadette and Toadsworth. "You DISGRACEFUL... ROTTEN... FUUUUNNNGUUUUSS!"
The two "Toads", still unconscious, were then launched out of the castle by Bill Blasters. They landed in Kastle Koopa, right after Roy had left. The first to notice them was Ludwig.
"Hey! It's some more Toads who have come to help us!"
"No!" Toadee cried. "It's a buncha goodie-goodie Toads, on Mario's side!"
"That's it, we'll put 'em in the lava pits!" Bowser shouted. He tied the Koopalings to a rope above the lava pool, which slowly lowered. Suddenly, the twins awoke.
