Mario and Wario, after completing the Flipswitch Galaxy, are in the Terrace. The black Luma talks to them.
Black Luma: Hey! We’ve detected an enemy base! Go there and save that Grand Star!
Mario and Wario go to Bowser Jr’s Robot Reactor. Almost immediately they see a caged Launch Star.
Mario: How are we going to get it out?
Wario: There must be something on the other side of the planet that’ll help us.
Wario does a loop around the planet.
Wario: I see a Bullet Bill Blaster.
Mario: I have an idea!
Mario gets the attention of a Bullet Bill. He breaks a cage and Wario gets the coins before Mario can touch one. Then Wario gets the attention of another Bullet Bill. Wario grabs the Bullet Bill and throws it into the cage, letting out the Launch Star. They use it to get to a small planet. Bowser Jr. appears.
Bowser Jr: Hahaha! So you made it, Mario and fat Mario look-alike! But I won’t even need my dad’s help to defeat you two! Say hello to my invention, Megaleg! Ludwig helped me to create it, before you ask me how I created it.
Bowser Jr. flies away on his ship. Then, a huge machine with gigantic legs comes.
Mario: Ahh!
Wario: What is that thing?!
A Bullet Bill tries to hit Wario. Wario grabs it and throws it into Megaleg, but to no avail.
Mario: Look! There’s arrows on Megaleg’s leg!
When Mario tries to climb the leg, the arrows turn red!
Wario: Uh oh! Those Bullet Bill Blasters know that we’re coming!
Wario follows Mario. They dodge the Bullet Bills and make it to Megaleg’s head. A Bullet Bill fires at Wario! Wario gets a glimpse of what’s protecting the Grand Star, then gets an idea. Wario grabs the Bullet Bill and throws it into the thing. It breaks, revealing Megaleg’s power core. It’s being powered by the Grand Star, which is inside something. Then walls open up to protect Megaleg’s power core. Wario breaks the wall with a Bullet Bill, but when he comes back with another, the wall has been rebuilt!
Wario: Wah?! What happened?
Mario grabs a Bullet Bill and goes to Wario. Wario breaks the wall with his Bullet Bill, then Mario breaks the power core with his. Megaleg explodes! Then the Grand Star appears. Mario and Wario both grab it. Then it flies them back to the Comet Observatory. It flies into something that looks like the sun.
Rosalina: That has more power, but it’s not fully powered yet… That thing is called the Beacon. Whenever it has more power, a new dome opens up. Look over there. The Fountain is now open. In there you’ll find more Power Stars and another Grand Star. Once the Kitchen, Bedroom, and Engine Room have power, you’ll be able to pursue the thieves who kidnapped your special ones. They went off to the center of the universe.
Wario: … You talk too much.
Rosalina uses
her power to throw Wario into the ground. Mario pulls him out. Then, without
saying another word, they go to the Fountain, not knowing what adventures
await them…
