One day Mario is sitting in his house reading the daily Mushroom Kingdom newspaper and dreaming of adventure. Luigi is in Sarasaland at one of Daisy’s parties.
Parakarry: Mail Call.
Mario: More bills, I guess.
Mario takes the letters and reads them.
Mario: Bill, bill, bill, a letter.
Mario reads the letter.
Dear Mario,
I am writing this letter in hopes that you will come see me. I am not Peach. Meet me in Shy Guy’s Toybox.
From,
???????
Mario: Weird I guess I better go.
Mario goes to Shy Guy’s Toybox.
Mario: What happened here?
The Toads are unconscious.
Mario: Weird. Where are the Shy Guys?
Mario enters a box and someone else is inside.
Figure: Hello, are you Mario?
Mario: Yes, what happened?
Figure: I am Lewis, a Shy Guy. A gang of X-Nauts came and destroyed our home and captured all the Shy Guys but me. Anti Guy, General Guy; everyone but me. I hid in here, while the whole invasion happened I stayed quiet. I sent a letter hoping you could help me.
Mario: Where did they go?
Lewis: Their hideout, I don’t know where.
Mario: I’d better go look for it. You stay here.
Lewis: NO! Take me with you!
Mario: Why would I go on some dumb adventure to save Shy Guys with a Shy Guy?
Lewis: What we did in the past is gone. I didn’t want to steal items from Toads. I am a good Shy Guy. Please don’t leave me here alone!
Mario: Let’s go to my house and talk about this.
Lewis: Ok,.
Lewis follows Mario to his house. Luigi still isn’t back.
Mario: Here, have some tea. You look bad.
Lewis: Thank you.
Lewis sips his tea.
Mario: So the X-Nauts destroyed your home and stole all the Shy Guys, and you want to go with me to find them?
Lewis: Yes.
Mario: Ok, so where do you think they are?
Lewis: They could be anywhere. You know X-Nauts are sneaky and tricky.
Mario: Yes, I was tricked by them and they almost succeeded.
Lewis: We need to think of something.
The clock strikes 10 o’clock.
Mario: I am exhausted about this. I’m going to bed, but before I do, I need to call E. Gadd and see what he can do.
Mario calls E. Gadd.
E. Gadd: Hello?
Mario: Hey, do you think we can meet tomorrow?
E. Gadd: Yes sure.
Mario hangs up. He puts his pajamas on and sees Lewis on the floor with a blanket and pillow.
Mario: Oh, you don’t have to sleep on the floor. Luigi is probably sleeping at Daisy’s anyway. You can sleep on Luigi’s bunk.
Lewis: Thanks.
Lewis sleeps on Luigi’s bunk.
The next day...
Mario: Get up, we have an appointment with E. Gadd.
Lewis: What do we need to see him for, Mario?
Mario: Trust me. It’ll help us find the X-Nauts’ hideout easier.
Lewis: Ok, you’re the boss, Mario.
Mario: Let’s go see E. Gadd. His new lab is in Toad Town sewers, Luigi told me.
Lewis: Let’s go then.
Mario and Lewis head down the pipe to Toad Town and head down another pipe into Toad Town sewers.
Lewis: Yuck! It’s nasty! I’m gonna barf.
Mario: Take this gas mask and barf bag just in case.
Mario and Lewis continue with gas masks on and reach a hidden room.
Mario: Head down this pipe and we’ll reach E. Gadd’s lab.
Mario and Lewis enter the pipe and enter a lab where E. Gadd is testing chemicals.
E. Gadd: Hello Mario, I got a phone call from you last night. What can I do for you?
Mario: I need you to build a machine that can track X-Nauts.
E. Gadd: Of course. I can do that, it’ll take just a second.
E. Gadd grabs a chemical bottle, pours it into a device, and puts some wires and tests it.
E. Gadd: Success! It is finished! There is a map of the kingdom and it buzzes when an X-Naut is nearby; and it looks like it’s pointing toward Poshley Heights. It can teleport to any area in the kingdom and can go back in time.
Mario: Thanks, I’m off.
Mario and Lewis teleport to Poshley Heights.
Lewis: Your X-Naut tracker is going mad right now! They must be under this area.
Mario: Let’s dig.
Mario and Lewis dig that area until they reach metal.
Mario: Bingo! Now I need to drill a hole in the metal.
Lewis: I have a big drill.
Lewis uses the drill to make a hole leading into the fortress. Entering they land on two X-Nauts, knocking them unconscious .
Mario: Hurry, put their suits on.
Lewis: Ok.
Mario and Lewis put the suits on and hide the X-Nauts behind a door.
Mario: This is tight.
Lewis: Let’s find Lord Crump, their leader.
Mario and Lewis explore the fortress until they find Lord Crump.
Lord Crump: What are you doing? Get back to work! We have to make more plans to capture every race in the Mushroom Kingdom. The Shy Guys were just the beginning. Go away! Shoo! Back to your station.
Mario: Yes sir. Where’s Grodus?
Lord Crump: He’s always in his room, how do you not know that.?
Lewis: Uh, we forgot.
Mario and Lewis head for Grodus’s room, which is on the fifth floor.
Grodus: I’m busy making plans, go away.
Mario: What plans?
Grodus: Plans for capturing every race on Plit.
Mario: Where are the Shy Guys held?
Grodus: Bottom floor on the left. How do you not know that?
Lewis: Uh, we forgot.
Grodus: Go on then, I’m busy.
Mario and Lewis leave for the dungeon.
Mario: Quick! Nobody’s here. Escape with the Shy Guys.
Lewis opens the door.
Lewis: Quick! It’s me, Lewis. Let’s get out. Hurry!
Shy Guys: Ok.
An X-Naut comes in.
X-Naut: Hey! Get back here with the prisoners!
Mario and Lewis reveal their true selves.
X-Naut: I’d better warn Lord Crump.
Voice: Red alert! Red alert! Prisoners escaping! Intruder alert!
X-Nauts storm the dungeon, along with Lord Crump and Grodus in a new body.
Grodus: This body makes me look fat, but it’s a body.
Lord Crump: Activate Magnus von Grapple 3.0!
MVG 3.0 comes in and Lord Crump enters it.
Lord Crump: We have made improvements. Only one will leave alive, Mario.
Mario: Sorry, look at the time. I must be going.
Grodus: AFTER THEM!
Mario, Lewis, and the Shy Guys run all over the fortress with the X-Nauts chasing them along with MVG 3.0 and Grodus. Mario and Co. exit the fortress and enter Poshley Heights with the X-Nauts pursuing.
Pennington: There’s something you don’t see every day.
General Guy: Engage tank!
A tank appears and General Guy jumps in.
General Guy: We can’t fight here, let’s fight in Gusty Gulch.
Lord Crump: General Guy has a point. Now where were we? Oh yeah, CHARGE!
The X-Nauts chase the Shy Guys to Gusty Gulch.
General Guy: To battle!
The news of the battle spreads to Dark Land.
Bowser: A battle in Gusty Gulch? Shy Guys vs X-Nauts? I want to battle too! Kammy, get the minions- every minion.
It even spreads to different dimensions.
Count Bleck: Cool! A war! I want to join! I want my Koopas against his.
Both armies go to support different side, the Koopa Clan aiding the Shy Guys and Count Bleck’s army aiding the X-Nauts.
Mario: Who knew this would turn out to be a war?
Lewis: Not me.
Bowser: I’m on the same side as Mario… Oh well.
Mario: I’ll take Grodus.
Lewis: I’ll take the X-Naut PhDs .
Bowser: I’ll take Robot Boy.
Grodus: I’ve gotten stronger in the last four years.
Mario: It’s time to take you out for good.
Grodus casts a spell at Mario but Mario grabs a Magikoopa wand and deflects it. Mario blasts and hits Grodus, but he recovers and fires another spell at Mario, who dodges. Mario then casts a light spell that blinds Grodus momentarily.
Mario: Give up.
Grodus: Never.
Lewis is fighting X-Naut PhDs and hypnotized Hammer Bros. Lewis throws sand in an X-Naut’s eye.
Everyone continues
their fighting. Will Plit see peace again?
The war continues but the Boos don’t like it.
Boo: Why is there a war at Windy Mill? Those white-suited creatures seem to be outnumbered. I must tell Lady Bow.
The Boo goes into Forever Forest.
Boo 2: There’s an army of Hypnotized Koopas coming.
Count Bleck: It’s Bowser! Well I’ll see how his Koopas can deal with mine.
Nastasia, O’Chunks, Mimi, and Dimentio appear.
Count Bleck: That’s every- Wait, where’s Mr. L?
Mr. L enters the area with Brobot L-type.
Mr. L: I’m here, Count. Let’s fight.
Count Bleck approaches Grodus.
Grodus: Are you on their side?
Count Bleck: Not if you’re fighting Bowser.
Grodus: I’m not. Let’s team up so the armies are even.
Count Bleck: Ok. Let’s fight. We outnumber them in robots 2 to 1.
On the other side…
Bowser: Mario, Lewis, we’re outnumbered in robots.
Mario: Luigi’s here as Mr. L. He must have been hypnotized again.
Bowser: Since we’re outnumbered in robots, it’s time for Plan A.
Bowser pulls out a walkie talkie.
Bowser: Jr, come in. I’m at Gusty Gulch by Windy Mill. Bring in your new toy. It’s playtime.
Bowser Jr: Roger that, over.
A shaking noise is heard while Lady Bow enters the battle.
Lady Bow: Mari- What’s that shaking coming from?
Suddenly Megaleg enters the area, operated by Bowser Jr.
Bowser: Just in time, Son. We got a battle to fight.
Mario, Grodus, Bowser, Count Bleck, General Guy, and Lewis: Charge!!!
The war goes on with more firing from each side. Megaleg is fighting Brobot L-type.
Mr. L: Missiles!!!
Brobot L-type fires missiles at Megaleg.
Jr: Bullet Bill Rampage.
A bunch of Bullet Bills are fired from Megaleg. The Bullet Bills hit Brobot L-type, taking out its deflector shields.
Computer: Warning, deflector shields malfunctioning.
Mr. L: Curses! This isn’t over, Jr.
Jr: Engage Mega Bill.
A ten-ton Bullet Bill is fired at Brobot L-type.
Mr. L: Oh NOOOOOOOOOOOO!
The Bullet Bill hits Brobot L-type, causing a giant explosion.
Mr. L: AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
Mr. L flies into the Forever Forest.
Jr: Ha! Serves you right, loser.
Bowser: Brilliant, Son, but we still have to take out Lord Crump’s robot.
Grodus: No! Bleck, your minion flew into the forest.
Bleck: Now we’re outnumbered in robots.
General Guy’s Tank and Magnus von Grapple 3.0 are firing at each other.
General Guy: You will taste defeat, Robot Boy.
Lord Crump: You will see the same, Tank Boy.
Magnus von Grapple fires a laser beam at GG’s tank but it deflects ofg and hits MVG 3.0, tearing a hole in it.
Computer Voice: Malfunction in 5, 4, 3, 2…
Lord Crump: Oh no.
Computer Voice: 1…
MVG explodes.
Grodus: Count, we have no robots left! RETREAT!!!
Grodus, Count Bleck, O’Chunks, Mimi, Dimentio, and what’s left of the X-Nauts retreat into the Forever Forest.
Mario: All right, Lord Crump, let’s see who you really are.
Mario unveils Lord Crump, and it turns out to be Wario.
Mario: Wario!
Wario: Yeah, Mario, I was forced to work for Grodus for 1,000 coins an hour, but he worked me too hard. I wanna get him back.
Mr. L: Oh… The last thing I can remember is I was leaving Sarasaland, then poof, I end up here. I wonder what happened?
Mario: Luigi! It’s you!
Luigi: What happened?
Mario tells Luigi about what just happened from the beginning of the story.
Luigi: Ok, we’d better chase those X-Nauts and Count Bleck and his minions.
Mario: My X-Naut tracker is saying they’re heading to Lavalava Island to the volcano. We’d better follow them. Here’s the plan. Anti Guy, you and the Shy Guys go home, E. Gadd can fix the Toy Box. Lewis, Bowser, Jr, General Guy, Luigi, Wario: we’ll head up to Lavalava Island and ask the Yoshis for information. Let’s go!!!
So our heroes are off to Lavalava Island.
