Last time, Larry was finally back in the story. Without any warning, Ludwig told Larry to flee Dark Land and go save the world after being updated on the events of Larry’s Adventure 2. He must now find out the great evil and stop it with the help of an odd Koopa named Grak Barn.
Chapter 4: With Larry
In Beanbean Fields, just near the base of Hoohoo Mountain…
Larry: So now what do we do?
Grak: Not now, I’m listening to Weird Al on my MP3!
Larry takes the MP3 and throws it toward the mountain. Grak hits the back of Larry’s head.
Larry: Ow! Stop hitting me!
Grak does it again.
Larry: I said stop!
Grak: I did stop hitting. Then I started attacking!
Larry: … What do we do now?
Grak: I heard there are some guys heading to Isle Delfino for some reason. Maybe we should go there.
(Author’s Note: Larry’s chapters take place at the same time as Violet’s chapters.)
Larry: For all we know they could just be going on vacation! No, we need to go somewhere where these “Crystal Hearts” could be.
Grak: Crystal Hearts?
Larry: Yeah, I figured since the guys in the prequel didn’t get them maybe we should. Know where could one be?
Grak: … Isle Delfino?
Larry: We’re not going there! Let’s ask around…
And so…
Tolstar: Never heard of ‘em.
Blablabadon: Nope!
Starbeans Manager: Nada.
Bubbles: Sorry.
Laser Snifit: *shoots laser ring*
Oho-Jee: Me no hear of Crystal Hearts.
Trunkle: Uh uh.
Guffawha Monster: NO.
Hermie III: Thorry.
Harhall: Zero news!
Winkle Guy: Nah…
Piranha Bean: *shakes head*
Jojora: Haven’t heard of them.
Larry: Dang, we just asked everyone in the whole kingdom that had a somewhat decent role!
Grak: Isle Delfino?
Larry: NO! Now let’s see… Where could an Emerald be?
Grak: Mobius?
Larry: Not that kind of Emerald.
Grak: … Boggly Woods?
Larry: Great! And I have a Magikruiser that will take us there faster! It can even go on water!
Grak: What about me?
Larry: You’re too annoying.
Grak: …
Soon, Larry is on the water on his Magikruiser that can go on water. A green shell is also sliding along the top of the water.
Larry: Are you kidding me?
There…
Larry: Well that was surprisingly fast.
Larry chains the Magikruiser to the pipe that leads from the sewers.
Grak: So where should we check?
Larry: Well Mario cleaned out that tree, so let’s check Flurrie’s house!
As Larry and Grak walk through the woods, Marilyn reaches up from the shadows and pulls Larry and Grak to the ground, banging their heads on it.
Larry: Ow!
Beldam appears.
Larry: Oh great, the short thing. Listen, we don’t have time for this! We need to find an Emerald Heart.
Beldam: So?! We’re gonna beat the information out of you!
Grak: We don’t even know if it’s there, we’re just checking!
Beldam: Yeah right! You know where it is and you’re gonna take us to all the others, too!
Larry: Didn’t you turn good?
Beldam: Uhhhh… Stunt double?
Larry: … Riiiiight… Can we go now?
Beldam: No! We’re gonna beat you to Flurrie’s house! Even if Marilyn has to throw you into one of those pits on the path to the Great Tree!
Larry: Aw come on! We have to stop some evil!
Beldam: Aren’t you a villain?
Larry: Yeah, but I can’t be shown up evil-wise! Ludwig would never trust me to be king once he retires!
Beldam: A struggle for power? That does make it interesting… Tell you what. We’ll spare you if you give me a position of power in your kingdom!
Larry: Will you betray us?
Beldam: Likely.
Larry: Well I’m only Vice King, so okay, we’ll see what we can do.
Beldam: Okay. Come on, Marilyn let’s go to Seaside Town. I heard the people there are vulnerable to attacks.
Marilyn: Guh!
They leave.
Grak: Will we ever see them again?
Larry: Hopefully not. Let’s just go.
At Flurrie’s house…
Larry: Okay. I’ll go first.
Larry climbs up a nearby tree and goes out on a limb (literally) and jumps to a window… and it turns out the glass is harder than he thought. He slams against it and slides down.
Grak: Oh look, the door’s unlocked.
Larry: …
They go inside.
Larry: There’s nothing here! Literally!
Grak: Oh look, a sticky note. “Dear Punis, I have left the woods for a life on the stage and have taken everything I have with me. Best of luck if more X guys attack.”
Larry: Drat! We did all this for nothing!
Grak: Now where do we go?
Larry: Let’s go into Rogueport, that place is littered with fairytales about artifacts.
At Rogueport…
Larry: Okay, that was fast. Good thing there was a ramp that took me clean over the back walls of town for my Magikruiser.
Grak: So we go to Frankly’s house?
Larry: That’s the first place we’d look! Too obvious!
???: Arr! I can’t believe that we lost to that scum!
??? 2: At least we found Blue.
It’s Captain Syrup and her three Pirate Guys!
Larry: Who are you?
Syrup: I’m the feared Captain Syrup! And this is my crew! Now scram before we take everything you got!
Larry: Hold on, I’m hunting for things too. Maybe we can team up?
Syrup: … Are you serious?
Grak: Are you serious?
Syrup: Stop that.
Grak: Stop that.
Syrup: … Yes we’re searching! We just lost our Emerald Heart so now we’re trying to find the Sapphire Heart!
Larry: We need those Hearts!
Syrup: Well tough!
Larry: … How about you just let us have one, then? The Sapphire one?
Syrup: Okay then. We leave for Lavalava Island in five minutes!
Five minutes later…
Grak: Did we even do anything?
Larry: No.
Syrup: Okay! We’re heading out to sea now!
Everyone gets on the boat.
At sea…
Larry: So, we’re on a pirate ship.
Syrup: Yes! And you’re going to clean the deck! I want it to look good and scary!
Grak: You mean so good that it’s scary, or good at being scary, or so scary you don’t notice that it doesn’t really look that good?
Syrup: Uhhhhh… The second one! Now get to it!
Larry: I’m Vice King of a country, can’t I get a good job?
Syrup: Would you rather cook for us?
Grak: Dibs!
Grak runs into the kitchen.
Syrup: Now you have no choice. CLEAN!
Larry: Dang.
Chapter 5: Tussle on the Island
Larry Koopa and Grak Barn explored Boggly Woods in search of the Emerald Heart and ran into the Shadow Sirens. But there was no luck so they teamed up with Captain Syrup and her crew to head out to Lavalava Island to find the Sapphire Heart. What will happen? Let’s see!
Yellow: Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet?
Syrup: NO!
Grak: Dinner’s served!
Syrup, Red, Yellow, Blue, and Larry enter the mess hall. There’s also a Green Pirate Guy sitting there, waiting to eat.
Red: What are we having?
Grak: Meatloaf!
Larry: I love meat!
Blue: Aren’t you supposed to like vegetables?
Larry: I’d never eat the plants that I love!
Syrup: … Let’s just eat it!
One dinner later…
Green: Who’s steering the ship?
Everyone: …!
Everyone storms outside just in time for the S. S. Teacup to hit a rock.
Syrup: … Abandon ship!
Everyone gets onto a lifeboat and rows to the nearest shore.
Yellow: That was terrible. What will happen now?!
Grak: Well at least we’re here.
Syrup: How can ye tell?!
Grak: When we were rowing here I saw a cruiser ship heading here with a light pointing from it to the island. It means that at least something’s here!
Syrup: You have a point… All right! And since this is a volcanic island, obviously it’ll be in the volcano! Let’s go!
Lakitu: Don’t go into the volcano!
Syrup knocks him out and they continue.
Larry: Uh, I don’t know. That guy looked kind of smart. Maybe we should listen.
Syrup: If you want to leave, you can forget about getting’ yer claws on that Heart!
Raphael the Raven dashes by.
Raphael: I got it! I got the Sapphire Heart!
Syrup: After him!
They chase Raphael to his tree. Syrup climbs up and so do Larry and Grak. The Pirate Guys aren’t that skilled.
Larry: Raphael, give us that treasure!
Raphael: No! It belongs to the island! I was going to put it somewhere safe.
Grak: Please?
Raphael: No!
Syrup: What’s that?
Raphael: Where?
Syrup knocks out Raphael and takes his Sapphire Heart! A light points from the Heart to the Mushroom Kingdom.
Syrup: Hot dog, that’s where the next one is! Come on, we aught to hurry before Raphael tells everyone what happened!
They head for the boat when suddenly Spear Guys attack!
Syrup: Green, use yerself as bait!
Green: But-
Syrup: GO!
Green: HYAAAAA-
Green charges at a Spear Guy, but it uses his shield to knock him down and then stabs his spear down, but Green rolls out of the way.
Syrup: Hmm… If I defeat you in battle, you must team up with us!
Spear Guys: … Okay.
Syrup takes Grak, stuffs him in his shell, and throws him… over the Guys’ heads.
Spear Guys: …
Grak’s shell bounces off a tree and hits the two from behind. Syrup catches the shell with her foot.
Spear Guy A: Okay.
Syrup: Excellent! Let’s hurry!
They start heading to the boat.
Larry: What about Green? And Grak?
Syrup: Grak’s no longer needed! Besides, his meatloaf was awful. And Green is useless!
Larry: But won’t we need as many of us as we can get?
Syrup: If you want to take them along, go ahead, but we’re leaving, now! And I’m not giving you that Heart!
Larry: But how can you abandon two members of your crew?
Syrup: Because I don’t need them! I have better ones now!
Larry: … I quit!
Syrup: Quit?! Nobody quits! They only stop being useful to me and/or die!
Larry: Well I just used a third option.
Syrup: You’ll eat those words!
Syrup throws a Mini Bomb at Larry, but he rackets it back. Syrup ducks but it hits the tree behind her and a coconut hits her on the head.
Red, Yellow, and Blue: Boss!
The three Pirate Guys drag her body to the boat and all four, along with the Spear Guys, row away.
Larry: There goes our ride… and our Heart. Wait, maybe we can beat them to the Mushroom Kingdom!
Lava Piranha (in the volcano): ROOOOOOOOARRR!!!
Larry: Eep! They must’ve woken up the monster that apparently lives in there! I gotta get off this island!
Green wakes up.
Green: Wait! Take me with you!
Larry: Weren’t you unconscious?
Green: I was faking out of fear.
Larry: … Fine, but we’re heading to the Mushroom Kingdom, and we need to find a way off the island!
Green: Can you Shell Toss across the water?
Larry: Yeah… But it’s not that easy.
Green: I have a rope! I’ll hang onto this shell, and while it’s tied to yours, you can slide across the water and take us with you!
Larry: I guess it can work.
Grak: I’m still awake in here.
Larry: Silence, nonbeliever!
So Larry ties Grak’s shell to his own and goes to the water and starts Shell Tossing, as Green grabs on. They make it back to Rogueport.
Green: What are we doing back here?
Larry: I’m tired of Shell Tossing, but my Magikruiser’s still here so I figure I can ride that and we’ll tie his shell to the Magikruiser.
Green: Okay.
It’s arranged and Larry rides back to
the Mushroom Kingdom.
Chapter 6: Toad's Factory
Syrup and her crew, then consisting of Larry and Grak, made it to Lavalava Island. There were some disagreements after taking the Sapphire Heart from Raphael Raven, so Larry and Grak were left with Green Pirate Guy while the rest of the crew took off with two Spear Guys for a place to hide. Now Larry’s group must beat Syrup to the next Crystal Heart.
Larry and his group are now in Water Land.
Larry: Okay, which one is next?
Grak: From the look of the beam that I saw from inside my shell, it was white, so probably the Crystal Heart.
Green: We know it’s a Crystal Heart, but which one?
Grak: The one that’s literally called the Crystal Heart.
Larry and Green: Oh. Where in the Mushroom Kingdom is Carmen Crystal Heart, however?
Grak: I don’t know! Du-derr!
Larry: Excuuuuuse me, Princess!
Grak: …
Green: …
Larry: … Yeah, that was lame. Let’s just look around. But wait, I’m going to need a disguise. But what kind?
Green: How about those things that look like bushy eyebrows, glasses, and a nose all at once? Oh, and a mustache.
Larry: Great! I just happen to have one of those in my shell.
He puts it on.
Grak: … Ell-oh-ell!
Green: Just laugh instead of pronouncing the letters.
Grak: I don’t want to. What now?!
Green: Can I go home now?
Larry: No. Now let’s go ask.
In Toad Town…
Larry: Where’s the Crystal Heart?
Toad Citizen: What?
Larry: Nothing. Wait, I know!
The group go to Merlon’s house.
Merlon: Hello there. What is it?
Larry: Where’s the Crystal Heart?
Merlon: Uh, which one?
Green: The literal one.
Merlon: Oh. Hmmm… It appears to be… headed west.
Larry: What?! Where is it now?!
Merlon: Toad’s Factory.
Larry: We gotta find the Crystal Heart!
Grak: And YOU gotta help us!
Merlon: No.
Green: I’ll help!
Larry: You already are.
There…
Larry: What’s going on?!
Toad: Well we’re taking a company vacation to the Baseball Kingdom that just opened up!
Larry: So why are you taking the literal Crystal Heart?
Toad: Because it’s shiny!
Green: We need it!
Toad: Too bad!
Grak: Give it to us!
Toad: No!
Grak: GIVE IT TO US!
Toad: I’m the boss, you can’t make me. Now leave before I have security after you!
Larry: How about we bribe you?
Toad: I’m listening…
Larry: How about… 100 coins?
Toad: (Mario’s voice) No.
Larry: … 110?
Grak: 85!
Larry: That’s less!
Toad: Okay!
Green: I didn’t get to do anything.
Larry: You’re only here because we need more party members and someone to take the heat!
Green: Aww…
Toad: Okay, it’s inside.
Larry, Grak, and Green head inside. The door behind them shuts and Toad’s voice is heard over the intercom.
Toad: Nice try, Larry Koopa!
Larry: Darn, my totally convincing disguise didn’t work!
He takes off his cheap disguise.
Toad: We’re leaving with the Crystal Heart, and you can’t have it! By the time you escape, we’ll be gone! Bye!
Toad apparently leaves.
Larry: We gotta open that door!
Larry tries attacking it but it doesn’t work. Green pulls out a saber and tries chopping the door, but it’s made of metal.
Green: …
Grak: We’re doomed so I’m just gonna listen to Lemon Demon now.
Larry: Not now, we gotta go get that thing!
Green: Isn’t the factory one big square? Can’t we make it back to the outside if we go all the way around?
Larry: … That’s right! We gotta hurry!
Larry gets into his shell and starts moving along as Green chases him.
Grak: Aw crud!
Grak has to stop listening and follows in his shell. When they reach the moving platforms outside they can see the factory’s boat on the water.
Larry: We gotta hurry!
Green: Why can’t we just swim from here?
Larry: Too lazy! Besides, we’d do it faster on the Magikruiser. It’s just outside the front!
Out there…
Larry: NOOO!!! THE MAGIKRUISER! IT’S RUINED!
Toad’s employees set it on fire and it was ruined. Suddenly a Magon appears. They’re the generic, yellow, dinosaur-dragon monsters in Wario World. This is the bigger kind.
Magon: Duuuuh, you’re not allowed here!
Grak: And who are you, security?
Magon: Yeah.
Grak: …
Beldam: We’re here!
Marilyn: Guh!
Larry: Oh great, not you.
Beldam: Yes! It’s been chapters! Why aren’t we in a position of power?!
Larry: Well our plot takes place at the same time as the other one. And I shouldn’t know that.
Beldam: Ugh… Are we going to have to help you do this faster?!
Green: That’d be nice.
Beldam: Fine, until you get your stupid Hearts, we’ll be teaming up!
Marilyn: Guh!
Magon: Sounds fun, can I go?
Grak: No.
Magon: Awww…
Beldam: We must find a way to the Baseball Kingdom.
Grak: Sweet, we’ll be there on opening day!
Marilyn: Guh!
Green: I love Baseball!
Beldam: WE’RE NOT GOING TO PLAY BASEBALL, YOU TWITS!
Green: Not even one game?
Beldam: Well maybe one, but we’re going for the Crystal Heart!
Larry: How are we going to get there!
Beldam: I don’t have the answer to everything!
Larry: … Iggy might know something! Quick, to Giant Land!
So Larry, Grak, Green, Beldam, and Marilyn have each started their quest to Giant Land to find Iggy to find a way to the Baseball Kingdom to find the Crystal Heart! Will they succeed? And what of Violet and her group? We’ll see!
