Prologue
After defeating Bowser again, Mario took a break inside his home. It was dark outside because of the previous adventure's length. Mario noticed a note by the door. He walked over and read it.
Mario: Ok, here we go. It said:
I'm taking a stroll in the Mushroom Kingdom. If you want some pasta, follow the instructions on the piece of paper I left you. I'm visiting the princess so I can spend some time with her. I’m also planning to visit Sarasaland to visit Daisy.

Mario: Hm, very nice.
Later, Mario cooked pasta and sat at the table eating his food. Then...
Mario: It's nice outside, I should go take a stroll.
Mario left his house and walked around the Mushroom Kingdom. Along the way, Mario met an old but wise Toad.
Toad: You must be Mario, are you not?
Mario: Yes I am.
Toad: We have seen you saving the Mushroom Kingdom many times, so in honor of you saving us, I will give you my special coin.
The Toad gave Mario a coin. It looked different from other coins, however, because 5 Chinese symbols were engraved on it.
Mario: ???
Toad: Keep it, it will become of use.
Mario: ??? ... Ol.
Mario walked to Peach Beach to relax.
Mario: Hm, Bowser is running out of plans. I mean, every time he comes up with a great plan, I still defeat him and save Peach. I wonder what he will be planning next.....
Meanwhile in Dark Land...
Bowser: Jr, do you have any plans to defeat Mario?
Bowser Jr: Hm, how 'bout gathering six other villains?
Bowser: That's great! But what for?
Bowser Jr: I read a book that shows something called "The Halo of Dreams". It also shows the Princesses of Heart and the Sacred Stars. When someone collects both the Princesses and Sacred Stars, that person will unlock the Halo and gain the power of dreams. What do you think, Papa?
Bowser: Yeah.... It will be great! When I collect the Stars and Princesses, I will rule Plit! Gwahahahahahahahaha!
Bowser Jr: So, who will you get?
Bowser: I have an idea...
Back in the Mushroom Kingdom, it was midnight and Mario was going back to his home.
Mario: I'm-a tired...
Mario then went to bed and slept. In his dream, Mario saw an unknown person in the distance who was unlocking the Halo of Dreams. The figure zapsped Mario with lightning and Mario fell into a bottomless pit. At the same time, Mario woke up in fright, but realized it was a dream. After returning to sleep, he woke at 6:45 in the morning to make some breakfast.
Mario: What was that dream? I have a feeling it will become real…
BOOOOM! SCZ... An explosion is heard and the lights go out.
Mario: What in the world was that?
Mario heard people screaming after the explosion. Then, he heard people crying for help, followed by nasty laughter. With this, Mario rushed outside his pad to see what was going on. He found the castle wrecked. Windows were shattered, a huge piece of the walls was missing, the ceiling had crumbled to the floor, and the doors had been pulled off the hinges. Then, Mario saw through a hole in the wall a shadow that looked familiar. When Mario came closer, he saw that it was…
Mario: BOWSER!
Bowser: That's right, Mario! You think you can beat as easy as last time? I don't think so! This time, I'm not alone! Come out, guys!
6 figures jumped out of the bush, and they were... Wario, Smithy, Cackletta, Count Bleck, Grodus, and Wart! Oh my!
Wart: We have the princesses and the Sacred Stars!
Cackletta: Eehahahyaya! We will use them to unlock the Halo of Dreams!
Wario: We will rule Plit in a realm of... NIGHTMARES! Ha, the great Wario is so evil!
Grodus: We will revive the dark spirits!
Count Bleck: And takeover the dimensions!
Smithy: In case you're wondering how I allied with Bowser, he made a contract so we can make an alliance. I agreed to join him, even though we fought each other before. We need more time for power.
Bowser: So, ya can't stop us! GWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
They left.
Mario: GET YOUR BUTTS BACK HERE!
Mario then saw Bowser drop a book. It had a golden cover with a halo on it. Inside the halo, there were 7 stars and 7 balls of light. The halo itself was glowing in a rainbow color that had the feeling of purity and mystery. Mario picked up the book and read it. He found out that in order for the Halo to be used, the Princesses and Sacred Stars need to be collected. When used, one could gain the ability to control dreams.
Mario: Bowser and his wicked followers are trying to dominate Plit with nightmares. If they do, who knows what might happen?
Mario looked back at the book. It said that the Princesses and Sacred Stars must be gathered to Star Sanctum.
Mario: I need to go to Star Sanctum, fast.
Mario first started with the west exit of Toad Town.
Mario: Ugh, this tree is covered in disgusting mold!
Mario kept going, slowly going into a dark forest, until he reached a Goomba.
Goomba: Hey, you! You ain't going any farther!
Mario: ...
Thwack! Mario knocked the Goomba unconscious.
Mario: So much for an underling.
Mario continued on his path, defeating countless Goombas along the way. Then, he ran into something.
Mario: What's this?
It was a stone with a Chinese symbol engraved on it. It started glowing when near the book. Then, Mario noticed a slot in the book. It was the same shape as the stone: a circle. Mario inserted the stone into the book. Then, the Chinese symbol transformed into a heart symbol. The gold shine turned into a rainbow color.
Mario: ???
Mario decided to continue on his path. On the way, he fought a giant Goomba and defeated it. Then, he ran into a puzzle where he needed to direct the light from the dark forest using the switches to rotate the mirrors. Mario was having a hard time because he couldn't move the objects blocking the light. Finally he found a key up a tree vine and hard to reach. Mario noticed he couldn't find a keyhole because it was too dark. He then noticed a keyhole in the switch panel. Mario placed the key into the hole to unlock the objects and the light path. He managed to direct the light to the crystal gem on the wall. The doors opened up. Mario then continued to advance towards Star Sanctum. He found a Koopa shell and threw it at the slot out of range. Then, Mario ran up to an icy lake. Any contact with the ice would instantly freeze him. Mario used fire on the ice, but to no avail. Mario found a Bob-omb and threw it at the ice. This time, the ice cracked, revealing a passageway. Mario avoided touching the ice, and took the passage. When he came to the end of it, he saw a sanctum of glittering light. It was Star Sanctum.
Mario: I don't believe it... It's Star Sanctum...
Mario pushed the door open and saw a stain-glass picture, a drawing of 7 balls of light with a circle at the center, and glowing balls of light on the walls. Then, he saw a Koopa. This Koopa had a bandage on his nose, wore dark blue shorts and a light blue shirt, and like most Koopas, had a green shell. It was...
Mario: Koops?
Koops: Mario? Where am I?
Mario: This is Star Sanctum. This is the gathering place for the Princesses of Heart and the Sacred Stars. This is also the place to unlock the Halo of Dreams. Bowser and his followers are planning to rule Plit with a realm of nightmares.
Koops: Uh oh...
Mario: If we don't hurry, we don't know what will happen to Plit!
Koops: We need to find the Princesses and the Sacred Stars, and fast!
Mario: Wait, what happens if I step into the circle?
He walked towards the circle and the stone glowed brightly. The book lifted itself into the air and opened. Then, the pages started flipping. They kept flipping until they stopped on a map in the book. A ball of light appeared in the area know as Sub-con.
Koops: That's where the first Sacred Star and Princess is!
Mario: Yeah, Wart's taken over Sub-con... again.
Koops: We’d better get going!
Mario: Wait, are you going to join my party?
Koops: Sure!
Mario: Ok.
Koops: Really? Oh, thank you!

Mario: Ok, you're in. Now... Let's-a go!
Mario and Koops headed back to Toad Town and tried to figure out how to get to Sub-con.
Koops: How do we get to Sub-con?
Mario: Hmm... I’ve been there once... I do not know...
Koops: We're doomed.
Mario: … Wait, hold the phone! When I defeated Wart, I woke up, meaning that was a dream... So, we need to fall asleep to get to Sub-con!
Koops: Are you sure this will work?
Mario: Trust me, it will work.
Later, Mario and Koops went to the Toad Town Inn and ordered a room. Then, the duo fell asleep. Later, they woke up in a sanctum with golden lights, dark pillars, and a hallway that led to Sub-con. It was a sight of beauty, but alas, there was a nightmare...
Koops: We must be in the Sanctum of Dreams.
Mario: That hallway leads to Sub-con. Let's-a go!
Koops: Ok.
Mario and Koops went down to the hallway. At one point…
Koops: *GASP!* *shutter* M-M-Mario?
Mario: What?
Koops: M-M-M-M-
Mario: Tell me, what is it?
Koops: T-t-t-t-
Mario: SPIT IT OUT!
Koops: Turn around and look...
Mario turned around and to his surprise, in front of them was the BIGGEST Gloomba they had ever seen!
Giant Gloomba: I am Gloomboss!
Koops: Huh? You must be the Gloomba version of Goomboss!
Mario: We need to stop him!
Gloomboss: Bring it on!
Mario started off by hitting Gloomboss with his hammer, but to no avail. Koops then attacked him with Ice Shell. Again, it had no effect.
Mario: Wha? It doesn't work!
Koops: Ice had no effect!
Gloomboss: Ice just makes me stronger! (to Mario) As for you, hammers can't break my defense! Hahaha!
Gloomboss created an earthquake that knocked Koops down and injured Mario.
SLLLLAAAAMMMMM!
Koops: Noo!
Mario: ARRGHH!
Gloomboss followed it up with a freezing headbonk on Koops and then kicked Mario.
Bonk! Chink!
Koops: Wha-
Slam!
Mario: OOF!
When Mario got knocked into the wall, Gloomboss bit and poisoned him. CHOMP!
Mario: ANNGH!
Mario was about to be defeated when a Fire Flower popped up from the ground. He picked it up and became...
Fire Mario: WOOHOO! It's-a me, Fire Mario!
Gloomboss: NOOOOOO! MY WEAKNESS!
Fire Mario: Hmm, you're weak to fire, I assume? Well, Fire Beam!
Foooooooooooom!
Gloomboss: AHHHHHHHHHHHHH! STOP IT!
Fire Mario: Tri-Fireball!
Foom! Foom! Foom! BLAMBLAMBLAM!
Gloomboss: OUF AHGFH WAAAAHHHHHH!
Fire Mario: Fire Ground Pound!

Gloomboss: BLAHGFJH! Aghhhhhhhhhh...
Fire Mario: GIANT FIREBALL!

Fire Mario: He's dead. Now to thaw Koops.
Fire Mario walked towards the frozen Koops.
Fire Mario: Fireball…
Foom! Shatter!
Koops: Wha... What happened?
Fire Mario: We need to get going.
Fire Mario transformed back into Mario.
Mario: C'mon.
The duo kept going, fighting countless Gloombas along the way. Then they found a key that was out of reach.
Koops: I'll try to get it.
Mario: Ok.
Mario kicked Koops’s shell, but the key on the platform was out of reach even of Koops's shell.
Koops: Dang! This isn't working!
Mario: There must be something to bring the platform closer...
Mario saw a switch that, like the platform, was out of reach.
Mario: Koops?
Koops: Huh?
Mario: Can you reach the switch over there?
Koops: I guess...
Mario: Let's try.
Koops withdrew into his shell and Mario kicked him. The shell reached the switch and hit it. There was rumbling and the platform came closer to the edge, not close enough for Mario to reach it, but close enough for Koops's shell. Mario kicked Koops to get the key, and they succeeded. They went back out to the hallway, and reached the end. There they found a red door.
Mario: I guess the door leads to Sub-con...
Koops: Are you sure?
Mario: Yes, I'm sure.
Mario took the key and placed it into the door. He then opened it, finding nothing but light.
Mario: Well, this is it.
Koops: We’d better get going.
The duo stepped into the door and the
door closed. After that, there were 3 shadows at the door...
Chapter 1: The Land of Peaceful Dreams and Dreaded Nightmares
A red door opened up and out came Mario and Koops. They were in Sub-con.
Koops: So this must be Sub-con...
Mario: It is.
Koops: So what are we going do?
Mario: We need to travel across Sub-con, find Wart, and take him down.
Koops: Who's Wart?
Mario: Wart is a frog who took over this place once, now he has control of Sub-con once again, this time helping Bowser.
Koops: Oh, man...
Mario: C'mon.
Koops: Ok.
Mario and Koops started with World 1.
Mario: You know them?
Koops: What?
Mario pointed toward a creature with a red robe, blue shoes, and a mask with eyeholes and a smaller hole for a mouth.
Koops: Shy Guys?
Mario: Yeah.
Koops knocked the Shy Guy over.
Mario: They're easy.
Koops: Let's go.
They continued through the fields, knocking out Shy Guys, Tweeters, Ninji, and Pidgits. After this, the duo made it up to the sky.
Mario: What's that in the distance?
He tried to see what was up ahead, and saw a pink creature with a bow. It was...
Mario: Birdo?!
Birdo: This is how far you can go!
Birdo started shooting eggs. Mario grabbed one and threw it back it her, but to his surprise, she deflected it and it hit Koops...
Splack!
Koops: Owwww!

Birdo: I'm a lot smarter than last time! Every time you throw an egg at, I WILL deflect it.
Mario: ?
Koops: Uh oh.
Mario: Fire Shell!
Kick! WHAM! FOOOMM!
Birdo: Ow! Six Giant Egg Bomb Assault!

Later, Mario and Koops went through the next part of the plain, fighting countless enemies along the way. After fighting Birdo (again), something happened...

Koops: We need to get one of the Princesses or Sacred Stars to reduce the flow!
Mario: We’d better go. NOW!
After more traveling, the duo end up in an unknown place.
Koops: What is this place?
Mario saw a package filled with bombs. Then, he noticed that he and Koops were in a bomb factory... A bomb factory filled with danger...
Mario: This is completely idiotic. Who would live in a bomb factory?
???: I would!
Suddenly, a mouse appeared from the shadows. He was wearing glasses and purple gloves and shoes. He was...
Mario and Koops: MOUSER!
Mouser: HA! Long time, no see, Mario! I'll give you a taste of my bombs and... ? Who's this?
Koops: Me?
Mouser: Yes, you!
Koops: Uh, I'm Koops.
Mouser: Ok, Mario, I'll give you and Koops a taste of bombs!!!
Mouser tossed 2 bombs, 1 at Mario, 1 at Koops. Koops dodged the bomb and tossed it back at Mouser. Mario, however, was hit.

Mario: He looks like a three-headed snake. Another one of Wart's generals.
Koops: Shouldn't we be going?
Mario: Right.
They went through the door of the castle, not aware of the 4 shadows coming from behind...
???: We need these two, and we need them now.
???2: What are you doing? You're going to blow our cover!
???3: Listen, once they come out of the castle, we need to stay low, ok?
???2 and 1: But we can't wait longer!
???4: That is enough! We need them. But, we need to stay low.
???1, 2, and 3: Ok.
Mario and Koops were inside the castle.
Mario: Careful, the bridge doesn't look too sturdy. One wrong step and you'll fall into a bottomless pit. Wait, bottomless pit?
~Flashback~
<i>Mario sees a person unlocking the Halo of Dreams. Then this figure zaps Mario with lightning. Mario then falls into a bottomless pit. Mario wakes up.</i>

Mario shook off his flashback, trying to be careful while he and Koops crossed the bridge.
Koops: I'm scared.
Mario: Don't look down, ok?
The duo managed to cross the bridge and later avoided the lava pit.
Mario: Ok, so far, so good, and ... What?
The Chinese coin started glowing and showed a Star.
Mario: It must mean that the Sacred Star is nearby.
Koops: Yeah, and Triclyde has it.
Mario: He will be hard.
After getting through the castle's traps, Mario and Koops entered Triclyde's lair. There were, once again, the 4 shadows at the door. Although you can't see the 4 people themselves, you can hear their voices.
???4: They are facing Triclyde.
???3: What should we do?
???4: We should wait.
Although the voices were unfamiliar, they were all feminine.
Meanwhile...
Triclyde: So, you seek the Sacred Star?
Mario: Yes, and I need it.
Triclyde: Well, you need to battle me for it!
Koops: Ready?
Mario: Yeah. (to Triclyde) We're ready to fight!

Mario: Hm? I'm feel like I have recovered...
Koops: ? I'm back!
Mario: The coin healed us!
Triclyde: Impossible!
Mario: Come on, Koops! Let's finish that three-head dork off!
Mario and Koops use Explosive Shell

Mario and Koops win!

Koops: What is it?
Mario: That's the Sacred Star.
Koops: Let's get it.
Mario and Koops collect the Sacred Star and leave Triclyde's lair, getting ready to defeat Wart..
Meanwhile...
???: They left the lair...
???3: I guess we can reveal ourselves once they defeat Wart?
???2: I guess.
???4: Listen, we will reveal ourselves after they defeat Wart. But for now, we’d better keep out of sight.
