In the last part, Mario and Luigi got Minionmon to compete with in the Minionmon League. They decided to go separate ways and meet at the league. So, Mario went off toward the first gym, in Koopa Village, and battled the gym leader, Kooper, and won. Kooper decided to travel with Mario, and they both headed off for Flower Fields, where they found Minh T. and battled her for a badge. It was difficult, but Mario won in the end. Now, Mario and Kooper have met up with Wario, and he has challenged Mario to a battle. Who shall win? Let's find out.
Chapter 5: A Rival Appears
RIVAL BATTLE #1: Wario
They both throw their minion balls, and on Mario's side appears Koopa, while on Wario's appears a Boo.
Kooper: Crud. Mario, ghost minionmon are unaffected by normal moves.
Mario: Shoot. Then I guess I'll go with fire punch!
Koopa charges at Boo.
Wario: Disappear!
Boo disappears and reappears when Koopa stops.
Wario: Now lick!
Boo lets out his long tongue and hits Koopa, paralyzing him. Koopa can barely move. Wario laughs.
Wario: Easy! Now Boo, use curse!
Boo makes a funny face, and a little skull and crossbones appear on Koopa, who starts to take damage.
Mario: I read about that move. Curse works differently with ghosts. It cuts their HP in half so they can damage the foe gradually, unless it is called back. Koopa retur-
Wario: I don't think so! MEAN LOOK!
Boo makes ghostly eyes in front of him, and they hit Koopa. When Mario tries to bring him back, he won't go inside the minion ball.
Mario: Huh?
Wario: Mean look is a move that prevents the owner from calling back the minionmon. Now Boo, end it with lick!
Boo licks Koopa, and Koopa falls down. He tries to get up, but the paralysis takes over.
Mario: Come on, Koopa! I believe in you!
Koopa then begins to glow, and lifts off the ground. He then grows a pair of wings. The glowing stops and a Paratroopa is seen.
Mario: YEAH! Koopa evolved into Paratroopa! Now, use aerial ace!
Paratroopa charges at Boo. But Paratroopa disappears. Boo is confused, and is hit from behind. Boo falls to the ground, knocked out.
Wario: GRRRR! I knew I should've trained him. He was just caught. Thought he could take you. But, no matter, curse should take you down eventually.
Paratroopa feels a little pain because of curse, but is still standing. Or flying in his case. Wario throws his next minionball and out pops a green cloud with red eyes.
Wario: Meet Poison Puff! Use poison gas!
Poison Puff exhales purple gas that hits Paratroopa, causing him to be poisoned. Paratroopa then begins to feel pain from the curse and poison.
Mario: I need to land an attack on that thing if I want to win. Use aerial ace!
Paratroopa charges at Poison Puff, disappears, and reappears behind him to land the attack. But...
Wario: Charge!
Poison Puff lets off poison and Paratroopa gets knocked back, and knocked out from curse and poison.
Wario: Charge works with electrical minionmon, but works differently with Puff. Poison Puff gets his poison attacks charged up, and gets a shield. Ice Puff, same thing, only ice moves get charged up. And Ruff Puff, works like a regular charge, but lets off static. Now, bring out your last minionmon so I can destroy it
Mario calls back Paratroopa and calls out Podoboo, who is eager to fight.
Wario: Ah, so you started with Podoboo. Now, use poison gas!
Poison Puff exhales the same gas, but Mario is prepared.
Mario: Dodge and use flame!
Podoboo flies up and sends down the mini flame. Poison Puff is hit and sent back, but he quickly gets back up. He then starts to open his mouth wide, and fires sludge. It hits Podoboo and poisons him.
Wario: Yes! Sludge has been learned!
Mario: That won't stop us! Use sunny day, then use flame!
Podoboo makes it sunny and sends out flame, which has more power. Poison Puff flies up and takes down Podoboo with a tackle to the ground. Podoboo slowly gets up, trying to endure the poison.
Mario: This is getting really bad. Podoboo, come on. I know you can do it! You have survived Kooper's Spear Guy, along with Minh T's Crazy Dayzee. I know you can take down a Poison Puff!
Podoboo lets out a battle cry and starts to glow. He then transforms into a body and forms a head. The glow disappears and in Podoboo's place is...
Mario: Blargg!
Wario: Oh crud.
Blargg lets out a roar and forms a giant flaming stone, fires it at Poison Puff, and knocks him out.
Wario: #@^#^!%!
Mario: Hey, watch it. This is family friendly.
Wario: Well excuse me! I am just astonished at the power! And I am mad that I lost to you! Until next time, Mario!
Wario rushes off. Mario approaches Blargg and pats him for a job well done. He calls him back and approaches Kooper.
Mario: What was that move?
Kooper: That was flame stone, a powerful fire move that very few minionmon can learn. But anyway, we should probably heal your minionmon first before we find out the next gym area.
They go to the center, heal AGAIN, and head outside to find out that the next gym is located on...
Mario: Lavalava Island.
Kooper: Yeah. Lavalava Island is home to many different minionmon, along with a tough gym.
Mario: Okay, let’s-a go!
Mario rushes off in a heartbeat, leaving Kooper in the dust.
Kooper: I think I had him at different minionmon, or a tough gym. Whatever is was, it sure got him excited.
Kooper goes after Mario, and catches up with him to find out that he is on a line trying to buy a ticket. Kooper joins him.
Mario: I can't believe THIS many people want to go to Lavalava Island!
Kooper: Don't worry, I'm sure the line will go fast.
One hour later…
The line has barely moved.
Two hours later…
The line has not moved any further than before.
Three hours later...
Mario takes out a stack of cards and starts doing card tricks to pass the time. Kooper is amazed at how slowly the line is moving.
Four hours later…
Mario: COME ON ALREADY! MAKE THE LINE MOVE FASTER!
Fine. The line then starts moving very fast. At last, Mario and Kooper make it to the front, only to find that the tickets are sold out.
Mario: WHY DO YOU TORTURE US?!
Because I love to.
Mario: !&^@^#*^&$#&%*&$%*$!%&*&%()&~!%$@#^&$&*()_$@!%$^%^%&**()!
Kooper: Hey, remember, this is family friendly.
Mario: I DON'T CARE!
He's right, Mario. Listen to your friend.
Mario: YOU SHUT UP! NOW, MAKE SOMETHING GOOD HAPPEN TO US, OR I WILL BEAT YOU UP!
Well then, bring it on!
One beating later...
Mario (beaten up): Okay... you win...
All right, you've suffered enough. So, they see the boat is about to leave. Mario, who is feeling better somehow, grabs Kooper's arm and they jump onto the ship and sneak into the cargo hold.
Mario: Nobody will know we are hiding here.
Mario and Kooper are then spotted by a sailor.
Sailor: Stowaways!
Mario: Run!
Mario and Kooper start running up to the upper deck and try to hide from the sailor. But when they reach the buffet area, Mario goes nuts and starts eating.
Kooper: Mario, come on! That guy is about to get us!
Mario looks and sees he is near, He starts stuffing food into his pockets and they rush off. They make it to the sky deck, but run into someone by accident. Mario looks at who it is.
Mario: Yoshi?
Yoshi: Oh, hey Mario. Hey Kooper. Why are you guys running?
Mario: We couldn't buy a ticket because the author was trying to be funny.
I heard that!
*smack*
Mario: Ow! Sorry. Anyway, you have to help us.
Yoshi: Okay, I'll handle this.
The sailor approaches and is about to grab them, when Yoshi stops him.
Yoshi: Why are you trying to hurt my friends?
Sailor: They are stowaways!
Yoshi: No, they are not. They're with me.
Sailor: Then how come I found them in the cargo hold?
Yoshi: The red one likes to explore, and the Koopa was only trying to stop him.
Sailor: Oh. Sorry about that. Carry on and enjoy the rest of the cruise.
The sailor walks off and Mario and Kooper breathe a sigh of relief.
Mario: Thanks, Yoshi.
Yoshi: No problem.
Kooper: So, why are you going to Lavalava Island?
Yoshi: Oh, I thought I'd drop by and say hello.
Mario: What are you talking about?
Yoshi: I challenged the gym leader. Thought I'd say hello.
Mario: Cool!
Yoshi: And I'd have to say that you are going to challenge him.
Kooper: What made you think that?
Yoshi: Well, you're with him, which causes me to believe that he beat you, along with Minh T.
Kooper: Oh.
Mario: So, can you give me some pointers?
Yoshi: Hmmm. Well, all I can say is that the leader uses fire.
Mario: Fire, huh? Hmm. How many minionmon?
Yoshi: Three on three.
Kooper: Mario, you only have two.
Mario: I know. I need to find one fast.
Yoshi: Well, there are some minionmon on the island.
Mario: Like who?
Yoshi: I seem to remember Spear Guy, Flower and Jungle Fuzzy, Hurt Plant, M. Bush...
Mario: They all sound like bug and grass!
Yoshi: There are more. Water-wise, you can find Cheep Cheep, Unagi, and Star Slap if you fish on the beach.
Mario: Hmm, if only we had some fishing rods.
Yoshi: I think that Lavalava Island is holding a fishing tournament today. Whoever catches the biggest Cheep Cheep gets to choose a water minionmon of their choice.
Kooper: Hey Mario, maybe you should enter.
Mario: I think I will.
Yoshi: Great. Hey look, we're here.
The ship docks and they got off to sign up Mario.
Chapter 6: Lavalava Fishing Competition
Mario, Kooper, and Yoshi reach the beach and see the entry stand. Mario approaches it and sees an orange Yoshi.
Orange Yoshi: Ah, Mario. Welcome back to Lavalava Island. I take it you want to enter.
Mario: Yup. So sign me up, please.
The orange Yoshi starts writing some stuff, and hands Mario a paper where he needs to sign.
Orange Yoshi: All right. You are actually our last contestant. All you need to do is catch the biggest Cheep Cheep. You can use one of your minionmon to weaken it and make it easier to catch. You are granted five water balls and a fishing rod. All I need is the name of the minionmon you will be using.
Mario: I'll use my Paratroopa.
Orange Yoshi: Al; right. Just bring him out and walk over in between that Koopa and purple Yoshi over there.
Mario walks over to where the Yoshi is pointing and stands between them. He calls out Paratroopa. Mario looks at what the other contestants are using. The Koopa is using Jungle Fuzzy, and the Yoshi is using M. Bush. The orange Yoshi then tells them to start.
Orange Yoshi: Ready... GO!
The three of them rush off into the water and throw their rods, trying to catch the Cheep Cheep. Mario gets a nibble and reels in only to find out that it is a very small Cheep Cheep. He throws it back and tries again. While he waits, he looks over to see the Koopa has found a somewhat larger than normal one. He manages to weaken and catch it. Mario then looks over at the Yoshi, and sees he got a large one too. He too manages to catch his. Mario gets a little worried, but feels a tug. He pulls in and it is still a small Cheep Cheep. He throws it back, feels a tug, and guess what. Small one.
Mario: I hate you!
*SMACK*
Mario: Okay, sorry!
So, he flings it further than he did before. He waits a long time, until...
Orange Yoshi: Two more minutes until we end.
Mario starts panicking, then, he feels a tug. He reels in, but is having a hard time. He then gives it all his might, and reels in a Cheep Cheep the size of Boss Bass.
Mario: O_O Paratroopa, use aerial ace!
Paratroopa charges at the fish and hits it dead on. It fights back by using water gun, which seems to do a lot of damage to Paratroopa. Mario is determined to catch it.
Mario: RETURN!
Paratroopa charges at the Cheep Cheep at fast speed, and hits it. Big hearts fly out, which means Paratroopa really likes Mario as its trainer. Mario throws his water ball and catches it. He rushes out to show his catch- just in time because the competition has just ended.
Orange Yoshi: Okay. We have finished. Now, let’s see the size of the Cheeps. Can you all please call them out?
The three of them call out their Cheep Cheeps into tanks of water. Everyone is amazed at the size of Mario's.
Orange Yoshi: We have the results. Third place is Koopa with the prize of $5,000. Second place goes to Broshi with the prize of TMs for water pulse, giga drain, and will-o-wisp. And first place goes to Mario with the prize to get a water minionmon of his choice. Mario, you can choose from Cheep Cheep, Unagi, or Jelectro.
Mario: Hmmmm. I think I'll take Unagi.
Mario takes the minionball holding his new Unagi.
Orange Yoshi: Thanks for participating. Hope to see you again next time.
Mario walks back over to Yoshi and Kooper.
Yoshi: Nice catch.
Kooper: Yeah, you deserve that Unagi.
Mario: Yup. Now, it's off to the gym.

Chapter 7: A Hot Battle
Mario and Co. look around the village to find out about where the gym is. The Yoshis say that they should try the entrance to the volcano. So they head for the zipline, but find the Yoshi Elder staring at the volcano. He turns and sees Mario.
Yoshi Elder: Ah, Mario. What a nice surprise. I was expecting you to show up. When I heard you entered the Fishing Contest, I knew you'd be here for a gym battle. So, shall we get started?
Mario: Sure, but where is the gym?
Yoshi Elder: Ah, yes. See, I hold battles inside the volcano. I know it sounds dangerous, but it is safe. Now, follow me.
Mario and Co. follow the elder by going down the zipline and entering the volcano. The elder takes them to the spot where Mario took out Lava Piranha.
Yoshi Elder (YE): Get ready, Mario. This shall be a three on three.
Mario: Let's-a go!
GYM BATTLE #3: Yoshi Elder
YE throws his ball and out pops Podoboo. Mario throws his and Blargg comes out.
YE: Ah, so you started with Podoboo. Looks like a powerful Blargg, but my Podoboo is better.
Mario: We'll find out. FLAME STONE!
Blargg forms a fiery stone and fires it at Podoboo.
YE: Nitro Charge!
Podoboo begins charging up with fire coming off of him. He then quickly dodges the attack and appears behind Blargg. Mario is confused.
YE: Nitro Charge is a move that boosts the user’s speed. Now, Podoboo, fire oath!
Podoboo closes its eyes and a ring of fire begins spinning around him.
Mario: That's not going to stop us! Flame!
Blargg shoots a mini-fireball and it hits Podoboo. But the ring of fire around Podoboo grows.
Mario: ... AGAIN!
Blargg keeps shooting flame after flame, but the ring of fire around Podoboo keeps growing. The YE just grins. Yoshi is a little worried.
Yoshi: This is bad.
Kooper: What?
Yoshi: Fire Oath is a move that causes the user’s power to increase when hit with fire moves. As long as that ring of fire is around Podoboo, he cannot be touched with fire moves. All Mario is doing is powering him up.
YE: Now Mario, witness the power of Fire Oath. Podoboo... CORONA!
Podoboo fires a yellow ball and it hits Blargg with a giant, fiery explosion. Mario just stands there with his mouth open, and Blargg slowly gets up.
Mario: What?!
YE: It's because of fire oath. That move will power up the user if hit with a fire attack. The bigger the ring of fire, the more power Podoboo will have.
Kooper: Mario, remember, you can call your minionmon back.
Mario: That's right. Come back, Blargg.
He returns Blargg to his minionball and calls out someone else.
Mario: Go, P. Troopa! Use aerial ace!
P. Troopa comes out and charges at Podoboo, who is hit and sent into a wall. YE smiles.
YE: I think it's time to show why I am pretty tough. Podoboo... baton pass!
Podoboo goes back to his ball and YE calls out Hot Foot. The same giant ring of fire is surrounding Hot Foot.
Mario: But... but... you’re a gym leader! You can't call your minionmon back!
YE: Actually, I can bypass that rule by using baton pass. And baton pass is a move that passes on any stat increase, or effect, which INCLUDES fire oath! Now Hot Foot, show Mario's P. Troopa your power with flare whip!
Hot Foot begins forming a whip of fire. He then whips it at P. Troopa, who gets knocked out from the attack.
Mario: O_O Return.
YE just grins.
Mario: Okay, his Podoboo knows corona, fire oath, baton pass, and nitro charge. His Hot Foot knows flare whip, and more than likely fire oath. I might as well call out BLARGG!
Blargg appears again, but begins to pant.
YE: You shouldn't have done that, Mario. From what I've seen, Blargg only knows fire moves, which will only power up fire oath. Hot Foot, start with nitro charge, then end this with combust!
Hot Foot charges up and more fire appears around him. He then charges at Blargg at blinding speeds. Hot Foot jumps above Blargg, and looks like he is about to explode. But Blargg surprises everyone by letting out a giant roar and breathing a gnarly, green breath at Hot Foot, who is stopped from using combust.
YE: That... was...
Yoshi: Dragon breath. A decent dragon move with a chance of paralysis.
Hot Foot tries to get up, but static comes off of him.
YE: Shoot!
Mario: YES! Now Blargg, use dragon breath once more!
Blargg releases another gnarly green breath and hits Hot Foot, knocking him out.
YE: Not bad. But I still have two more. Let’s end this, Podoboo! CORONA!
Podoboo is unleashed and releases a yellow ball of fire.
Mario: Counterattack with flame stone!
Blargg releases a large, flaming stone that hits corona and destroys it, then heads for Podoboo. YE just grins.
YE: Fire oath.
Podoboo forms a ring of fire around him, and is hit with flame stone, which makes the ring of fire bigger. But unknown to YE, Blargg had disappeared.
YE: Where did he go?! Podoboo, look for that Blargg, and when you see it, use corona!
Podoboo starts looking. It eventually floats over a pool of lava, from which Blargg jumps out and attacks Podoboo with dragon breath, knocking it out.
YE: HUH?! TWO OF MY MINIONMON KNOCKED OUT BY A WEAKENED BLARGG?! Time to end this! Go...
He throws his minionball, and out appears...
YE: Phantom Ember.
A light green Lava Bubble appears, featuring a mean, nasty face.
Mario: Phantom... Ember?
Kooper: This is his deadliest, isn't it Yoshi?
Yoshi: Yup. I had trouble with this too, but my minionmon was lucky enough to learn a new move and finish it.
YE: Phantom Ember, kindly show Mario your power by using nightshade.
Phantom Ember's eyes shoot out a dark, neon beam that hits Blargg and knocks him out.
Mario: He was weakened. Time to end this fast. Go... Unagi!
Mario calls out an eel that looks as if it's excited to battle.
YE: Ah, so you chose Unagi. Well, it isn't enough to takedown Phantom Ember. FLARE WHIP!
Phantom Ember forms a fiery whip and lashes it toward Unagi. He gets smacked, but quickly gets back up.
YE: Ah, I see he has some fighting spirit.
Mario: Yup, and he also has WATER PULSE!
Unagi forms a blue, neon ball of water. He shoots it at Phantom Ember, who is hit with a big splash of water, but not just any water. Phantom Ember's eyes become bloodshot.
YE: Oh shoot! He's become confused!
Mario: YES! Now, use bite!
Unagi rushes in and tries to bite Phantom Ember, but burns himself while trying, so he rushes off.
Mario: Oh yeah. He's fire. Okay, bite isn't going to work. But maybe this will. ICE FANG!
Unagi opens his mouth wide, and his fangs become frozen. He rushes toward Phantom Ember and bites him hard. A mini icy explosion goes around Phantom Ember. Unfortunately, he is no longer confused.
YE: YES! Okay, time to show them your... SHADOW BALL!
Phantom Ember forms a shadowy blob and fires it at Unagi, who is hit by the powerful attack. But again, he gets back up.
YE: Wow, this thing will not stay down to what I throw at it. Maybe this will work. EERIE FLARE!
Phantom Ember inhales, then exhales a greenish stream of fire that hits Unagi and not only hurts him, but burns him.
YE: Eerie flare is a move that not only causes damage to the user, but also burns them!
Mario: Crud! Okay... water pulse!
YE: Not this time! Flare whip!
Phantom Ember forms another fiery whip and sends it toward the water pulse, turning it into steam, which nobody can see through.
YE: Now's my chance. SHADOW BALL!
A shadowy blob is shot at Unagi, who is hit and suffers more from the burn.
Mario: I have to think of something fast, before YE takes us down, or the burn. Wait... I've only used three of Unagi's moves. I wonder...
YE grins.
Mario: RAIN DANCE!
YE stands there with his mouth open. Unagi then summons a rain cloud into the volcano, and it begins pouring. Phantom Ember begins to weaken, and Unagi's burn heals, plus his effect activates. Unagi moves at high speeds.
Mario: YES! Swift Swim. Unagi, finish this with ice fang!
Unagi opens his mouth and his fangs turn icy. He takes a large bite out of Phantom Ember, whose defenses weaken from the rain and he is knocked out. Mario has won.
Yoshi and Kooper: WAY TO GO!
YE: I must say, Mario, I'm impressed. Your minionmon are very powerful. I'm surprised at the power of your Unagi. You just got it.
Mario: It shocked me too. But he pulled through and won the match.
Mario turns to Unagi, who smiles at the fact he won his first battle.
YE: Well, congratulations. I'd like to present you with the Flare Badge and the TM for flare whip.
YE hands Mario his reward and is about to show them out, but the pool of lava in the center begins to bubble. Then, out comes...
YE: Lava Piranha!
Mario: You mean THAT thing is a minionmon?!
YE: Yes. It's one of the most powerful minionmon. I've tried to catch him, but he is just too powerful. He knocks out every one of my minionmon.
Lava Piranha starts shooting fire all over the place.
Yoshi: Why is he angry?
YE: I think it's because of the rainstorm Unagi used. We have to evacuate.
Yoshi: No. I'll stop him.
Kooper: Yoshi, you don't know what you're getting yourself into.
Yoshi: Yes I do. And I think I can win. Plus, it's a chance for you to see me in action.
Yoshi grabs a minionball and approaches Lava Piranha.
Yoshi: (quietly) For now. (out loud) GO...
