Chapter One: Day of Destruction
It is a nice, sunny day in the Mushroom Kingdom. Mario, our hero, is strolling down the street in Toad Town.
Mario: What a nice day! It seems weird that Bowser hasn’t attacked lately…
Meanwhile in Kastle von Koopa…
Bowser: Ludwig! Come here! NOW!
Ludwig enters.
Ludwig: Yes King Dad?
Bowser: Look through this telescope! Tell me what you see!
Ludwig: It looks like… a… No! That couldn’t be!
Bowser: WHAT?!
Ludwig: It looks like, a planet… headed straight for Plit...
Bowser: You mean-
Ludwig: We have exactly 48 hours until the two planets collide, and Plit ceases to exist…
In Peach’s Castle…
Princess Peach: Professor Shroomenstein, are you sure?
Mario: Yeah, there’s gotta be a way to stop this!
Prof. Shroomenstein: I am positive. We have 48 hours until the collision.
Mario: Princess, order the Toad Brigade to launch. Maybe they can colonize some other planets and the Toad race will live on.
Prof.: It is pointless to do so. It would take 72 hours to clear the blast radius of the explosion when the planets collide.
Princess Peach: So everything we know, everything we’ve accomplished, everything on Plit, is… doomed…
24 hours ‘til impact
The skies of Plit have turned orange. Day and night are one. All that can be seen when someone looks up are the storm clouds of the merged atmospheres of the two planets. Toads and Koopas have collaborated in their attempts to destroy the mysterious planet. Countless Bullet Bills have been fired, countless Bob-ombs thrown. Now the oncoming planet is too close to do any of this safely. Everyone sits in their houses and waits for doom to come…
In Mario and Luigi’s house…
Luigi: Mario, how long until It happens?
Mario checks his watch.
Mario: We have 24 hours, Luigi.
Luigi: It feels strange… knowing that in a few hours I’m gonna die.
Mario: Yeah… I talked with Peach today; she feels the same way…
A small army of Koopas march into town, among them 6 of the Koopalings (Roy is absent), Bowser, and a tiny fraction of the Koopa Troop. Bowser and the Koopalings are weeping.
Mario: What? I thought that we were too close to that planet for explosives!
Luigi: They aren’t here to destroy that planet, Mario… Didn’t you hear? A tornado struck Kastle von Koopa. It collapsed; Roy was in the dungeon and couldn’t get out in time. The rest of the Koopa Troop fled to the hills…
Mario: Oh… So they’re here to live until the explosion…
Luigi: Exactly.
1 hour ‘til impact
Everyone is tense, waiting for the collision set to come…
30 minutes ‘til impact
People are anxiously looking towards the heavens; complex temples and stone ruins are now visible on the approaching planet’s surface…
1 minute ‘til impact
Mario and Luigi
are sitting in their house, waiting. A scream comes from Town Square as
Peach’s Castle collapses. People run as a burst of flame shoots from the
initial point of impact. All Mario sees is a flash of white light before
he blacks out…
Chapter 2: Awakening
Mario opens his eyes to find himself in the middle of a desert.
Mario: Where… am I? Luigi? Peach?
Silence… Thunder rumbles in the distance.
Mario: Better get outta the open before the storm hits…
Mario looks around for shelter, and sees a temple and a cave.
Mario: The cave is closer, I’ll go with that and explore the temple later.
He enters the cave and looks around, seeing a blue bubble-like object deeper in the cave.
Mario: What’s that?
He does a close examination of the object, and finds nothing. He pokes it and it wiggles a little, so he shoots a fireball at it. It ripples a lot, then disappears.
Mario: What?!
He walks through the hallway revealed by the object, and sees a dark expanse of cave.
Mario: I’ll come back later.
He returns to the surface to find that it’s raining, so he lays down on the hard rock of the cave to sleep…
Meanwhile…
Luigi looks around, seeing nothing but an expanse of underground jungle. Bugs and plants are everywhere. He sees on either side of him a pair of statues, each baring a creepy face. Luigi notices a glowing orb in the distance… He starts towards it, desperate for some kind of hope of survival…
Elsewhere, Peach awakens on an underground island surrounded by lava. She notices a pathway of similar islands extending as far as the eye can see.
Peach: Ugh. I hate lava.
She hops along the platforms, away into the darkness…
Elsewhere still, Bowser wakes up to find himself surrounded by machines and pipes. He feels tremendous pain throughout his whole body. When he tries to move, he can’t. He sees that some odd creatures are hooking him to a life support system. Realizing that these people think he is their master, he begins to think up evil plans…
