Phil: 6 teams continued to race through the outer reaches of space. After discovering that the leg was not yet over, Hammer Bro & Boomerang Bro decided to take the second Fast Forward. Flurrie & Doopliss also attempted to secure this Fast Forward, but ended up losing to the Bros. Some teams were cool and calm during the Detour… while others blew up.

Phil: After a fast-paced Roadblock, teams checked in to the Pit Stop. In the end, it was a race to the finish between Flurrie & Doopliss and Birdo & Mouser. A fall towards the end of the Roadblock gave the Partners and Best Friends the push they needed to edge out the Actress and Actor!

Phil: Teams must now take this Launch Star and travel to the Slipsand Galaxy! This expansive galaxy covered in sand, stone, and ancient structures is one of the most well-known Galaxies in space. When teams land, they must make their way through quick-moving sand on this long planet to reach their next clue.

Boomerang: Yeah… Well, let’s get going then! We want to try not to fall behind!

Phil: A Roadblock is a task that only one person may perform, and no person may do more than 6 on the entire race! In this Roadblock, one team member must ride down this extremely long, sandy slide and reach the bottom without falling off. The slide continually gets thinner until it is only about one meter wide at the bottom. Also, teams will have to be aware of these large, rolling stones that will follow them down the slide. Once they reach the bottom and rejoin their partner, they will receive their next clue.
Boomerang: Should I do it?
Hammer: Well, I have to do SOME… but amusement parks? Yeah, you should do it.
Boomerang: All right! *opens* Aww, you should’ve done it! Haha! It looks fun!

Phil: A Detour is a choice between two tasks, each with its own pros and cons! In this Detour, teams must complete one of two tasks that Mario needed to overcome to retrieve a Power Star! They will choose between Surf and Sand. In Surf, teams will take this launch star to this long planet filled with quicksand and cacti. Teams will ride on top of this strange creature known as a Sand Manta as it ferries them across the quicksand. However, the cacti and these Magikoopas will be able to break off parts of the sand manta temporarily, so teams will have to be extremely careful not to fall in. In Sand, teams will take this other launch star to this circular planet, where they will have to fight against Squizzard. Using Fire Flowers and avoiding Squizzard’s attacks, teams must subdue him so that they may grab a flag from his backside. Once successful, they’ll receive their next clue.
Boomerang: Surf or Sand?
Hammer: Well, normally I’d go kick that Squizzard’s behind, but I guess we’re gonna have to do Surf.
Boomerang: No problem! Let’s go!
Hammer: Okay… Another launch star…
