Characters
Yoshi
Power: 0/3, Speed: 2/3, Jump: 3/3
Yoshi may not be the toughest, but he is speedy and has an excellent jump. You start out with him.

Mario
Power: 2/3, Speed: 2/3, Jump: 2/3
Mario is a well-balanced character, good in almost any situation. Unlock him by defeating Goomboss.

Luigi
Power: 1/3, Speed: 2/3, Jump:3/3
Luigi's stats are a little better than Yoshi's, and his backflip is probably the most useful move in the game. Unlock him by pounding King Boo.

Wario
Power: 3/3, Speed: 1/3, Jump:1/3
The muscle of the gang, Wario can hurl boxes and send enemies flying. His speed and jumping skills are atrocious, however. Unlock him by trouncing Chief Chilly.

Course 1: Bob-omb Battlefield
Star 1: Big Bob-omb on the Summit
Character: Yoshi
First, talk to the Bob-omb Buddies (the pink bombs) for some info. Then, follow the path up the bridge, past the Chain Chomp, and through the field untill you reach a gate. Here, you can either go right or straight ahead. Whichever path you choose, follow the path up the mountain, avoiding bowling balls. Once on the summit, approach King Bob-omb and engage him in battle.
Boss: King Bob-omb
King Bob-omb will try to pick you up and throw you out of the way. When he starts to throw regular Bob-ombs, that's your cue to eat them and spit them back at the king. Hit him three times and the first Power Star is yours.

Star 2: Footrace with Koopa the Quick
Character: Yoshi (wearing Mario cap)
Start by talking to the giant Koopa ahead of you. He'll introduce himself as Koopa the Quick, and ask you if you've seen Mario so he can race him. Run straight ahead over the bridge and into the field untill you see a Goomba wearing a Mario hat. Dispatch the Goomba and grab Mario's hat, which makes you look like Mario and gives you his moves and abilities, too. Talk to KTQ again and, thinking that you're Mario, he'll challenge you to a race. Accept his challenge and run flat-out up to the mountain's summit. As you run higher up the mountain, you will notice an alcove on the left where all the bowling balls are coming from. Run into the alcove, and stand at the back wall for a second. You will then be transported to a location right below the summit. Using this shortcut can almost guarantee a win.  If you touch the flagpole before he does, he will procure a Power Star for you!

Star 3: Five Silver Stars!
Character: Anyone
A very simple Star. Run around and collect all five of the Silver Stars that are bouncing about. Their locations are:
1. Above the tree to the left of the first bridge
2. On the tail of the Chain Chomp roaming around in the field near his normal spot
3. Pops out of a Goomba in the field with the four posts to the left of the Chomp
4. In a flower patch near the cannon in the field across from #3
5. On the right side of the mountain path near the base of the mountain
When a real Power Star appears, run over to it and claim it.

Star 4: Big Bob-omb's Revenge
Character: Mario, Luigi, Wario
Go back to the mountain's summit where you beat Koopa The Quick and squared off with
King Bob-omb earlier. King Bob-omb is back, and itching for a fight.
Boss: King Bob-omb
This time, you must run around King Bob-omb's back, pick him up, then throw him on the ground. When you throw him three times, he will explode for good, leaving you a shiny new Power Star.

Star 5: Mario Wings to the Sky
Character: Mario
Before attempting this, you must activate the ! boxes (see The ! Switch below). Talk to the Bob-omb Buddies to activate the cannons. Run up the mountain untill you see a hole in the ground on a ledge. Drop in, and a cannon pops up, and you will get a view of a floating island. Aim the cannon at the island and press A to fire. On the island, break open the ! Box to get a Wing Cap. Enter the cannon here and fire yourself at the rings of coins. Your goal is to grab each of the five coins in the center of the rings. A number will appear indicating when you got a coin. After getting all five, a Power Star appears, so land and grab it.

Star 6: Find the Eight Red Coins
Character: Anyone
Every level features a Star like this where you must gather eight red coins. Here's where they're located:
1. Above the elevator platforms to the left of the first bridge.
2. On the gray rock in the field ahead of the bridge
3. On the Chain Chomp's peg
4. To the left of the seesaw bridge, among four pegs
5. Right next to #4
6. In the alcove underneath the mountain gate.
7. On the grassy slope on the mountain
8. On top of the tree on the floating island.
Once you collect all eight, the Power Star appears between #4 and #5.

Star 7: Behind Chain Chomp's Gate
Character: Wario works best
Run up behind the Chain Chomp to his peg. Make sure he isn't near the peg, and ground pound it three times (only once if you're using Wario). This will set the Chomp free, and he will break the gate, thus opening up a Power Star to you.

100 Coins in the Battlefield
To get 100 coins, squash the Goombas, blow up the Bob-ombs, and get a blue coin from the Koopa. Pound the pegs for five coins each, and collect all the red coins. At the 100-coin mark, a Power Star will appear above you.

Course 2: Whomp's Fortress
Star 1: Chip Off Whomp's Block
Character: Anyone
Take the path in front of you, watching out for the extending parts of the wall and making sure you don't fall in the gaps. Walk up the stairs and avoid the Thwomps, then creep up to the Piranha Plant and whack it. Take either the collapsing bridge or the narrow path, and cross the large gap on the spinning bridge. Run to the elevator platforms, optionally killing the Whomps, and ride up to top, where you will meet Whomp.
Boss: Whomp
Whomp will try to flatten you by falling flat on his face. When he does, avoid him, jump on his back, and do a ground pound. Three ground pounds will cause him to break apart, leaving you with a Power Star.

Star 2: To the Top of the Fortress
Character: Anyone
Head up to where you fought Whomp and you'll notice a large tower there. Use the platforms on its side to reach a Power Star on the top.

Star 3: Shoot Into the Wild Blue
Character: Anyone
When you start out, jump to the left into some shallow water. Farther on is a Bob-omb Buddy who will set up a cannon for you. Get in, aim, and fire yourself at the Power Star right ahead of you.

Star 4: Red Coins on the Floating Isle
Character: Anyone
Another eight red coins to find:
1. In a patch of flowers near the blue coin switch
2. Above one of the extending walls (with the eyes)
3. Above a Thwomp
4. Behind the Piranha Plant past the Thwomps
5. On the narrow path past #4
6. In the floating ring of coins by the spinning bridge
7. On the slope under the spinning bridge
8. On a floating isle
Your Power Star will appear near the start point.

Star 5: Fall Onto the Caged Island
Character: Anyone
Make your way to the floating isles, and you'll notice a floating cage containing a Star. Find a way inside of the cage (using Luigi's Copter is the easiest) and the Power Star is yours.

Star 6: Blast Away the Wall
Character: Anyone
Go to the cannon you opened earlier, and aim yourself at the top corner of the farther wall you can see (look to the right). Fire and the wall will break, revealing a Power Star.

Star 7: Switch Star of the Fortress
Character: Anyone
Run to your right and head to an alcove with an orange block. Smash it and step on the Star Switch. Go to where you found Red Coin #1 and jump into the star container. It will shatter, freeing a Power Star.

Whomp's Coins
For this 100-coin Star, collect the red coins, destroy Piranha Plants, crush Whomps, and bash Goombas to get the Power Star.

Course 3: Jolly Roger Bay
Star 1: Plunder the Sunken Ship
Character: Anyone
Swim to the far side of the bay and dive down towards a sunken ship. An eel is in the window, so swim close to it to coax it out. Once it's gone, swim into the window and into the ship. Inside, open the treasure chest to make the water drain, and climb on the platforms up the slope. On the top, there is a yellow ! Block that contains a Power Star.

Star 2: Can the Eel Come Out to Play?
Character: Anyone
The eel has relocated itself to a hole in the sea wall. Lure it out again and nab the Power Star on its tail.

Star 3: Treasure in the Ocean Cave
Character: Anyone
Near where the eel was hiding, there is a hole in the wall with a ring of coins around it. Swim inside and run to the opposite side of the cave, avoiding the falling stone pillars. When you reach the treasure chest, open them in this order: Back, left, right, front. (Note: You must open them in this order, or else you will be electrocuted and lose health.) Once all the chests are open, a Power Star will appear.

Star 4: Blast to the Stone Pillar
Character: Anyone
First, head off to your right and have the Bob-omb Buddy open the cannon. Go to the cannon and aim for the pointy pillar on the left. When you're up there, align yourself with the platform, and jump to your next Power Star.

Star 5: Red Coins on the Ship Afloat
Character: Anyone
Another red coin hunt. This one's a bit easier because so many are in clamshells:
1. Underwater in a clamshell
2. Underwater in a clamshell
3. Underwater in a clamshell
4. Underwater in a clamshell
5. On top of the pointy pillar by the Bob-omb Buddy
6. On the boat
7. On the boat, opposite of #6
8. Next to #7
Your Power Star prize appears on the boat.

Star 6: Switch Star of the Bay
Character: Luigi
Make your way to the ocean cave and get Luigi's Invisibility Power Flower. Press the Star Switch, and run through the cage wall, smashing the Star container and grabbing the Power Star.

Star 7: Through the Jet Stream
Character: Wario
Start by getting Wario's Metal Power Flower and jump into the water. Continue on into the deepest waters and sink into the center stream of bubbles for the Power Star.

The Pirates' Money
100-coins here can be difficult because if you miss a blue coin, you'll have to start over. First, press the blue coin switch and ride the Koopa Shell for the coins. Then, get all the red coins, coins floating around, and coins from Goombas to have another Power Star.

Course 4: Cool, Cool Mountain
Star 1: Slip Slidin' Away
Character: Anyone
When you start, head into the chimney to your right and you will be placed in a room with a snowy slope. Start to slide down, making sure you don't fall off the path. When you reach the part where the walls rise up on either side, you can either stay on the track or take a shortcut. If you elect to take the shortcut, hug the wall and when you see a line of coins. you will go right through the wall and into a tunnel with a few 1-Ups. When you emerge, jump down and exit the room, and a Power Star will appear.

Star 2: Lil' Penguin Lost
Character: Anyone
Hop up on the chimney, but don't go in. Instead, jump up on the ledge above and grab the small penguin. Take him all the way to the bottom of the mountain where his mother is. Giving the penguin to her will earn you a Power Star.

Star 3: Big Penguin Race
Character: Anyone
Go back into the chimney, and a large penguin will challenge you to a race. While racing, DO NOT USE THE SHORTCUT. If you do, the penguin will declare that you cheated and you won't get a Star. If you cross the finish line first fair and square, the penguin will award you a Power Star.

Star 4: Frosty Slide for Eight Red Coins
Character: Yoshi
Time to find more red coins:
1. Under the slide down the mountain, in a block of ice
2. To the left of the giant snowman, next to the Bob-omb Buddy
3. On the ledge above the ski lift
4. On the tree by the cannon
5. On the island near the transporter
6. On the edge of the mountain to the right of #5
7. In an ice block by the little penguin
8. On the broken bridge past the bridge with the snowmen
Get the Power Star right across from #8.

Star 5: Snowman's Lost His Head
Character: Anyone
Down by the bridge with the snowmen, there is a large, sad snowman head who wants a body. Near the beginning, there is a snowball that wants a head. Talk to it (?) and it'll agree to roll behind you if you can find a head. Slide down the slope to the aforementioned head and stop a little past the head. The body will bounce underneath the head, and everyone will be happy, including you, because you've earned another Power Star!

Star 6: Mario's Super Wall Kick
Character: Mario
Have the Bob-omb Buddy by the ski lift activate the cannon below, then hop in and blast to the ledge across from you. Run along the path, long jump over the gap, and then wall kick your way up to the path of ice cubes. Walk carefully so you don't fall, and take the Power Star.

Star 7: Switch Star of Cool, Cool Mountain
Character: Wario
Go back to the Bob-omb Buddy from the previous Star, and hit the Star Switch. Jump down to where the Mama Penguin is, and ground pound the ice to get the Power Star.

Money on the Mountain
For this 100-coin Star, get all the money on the slide, get the red coins, flatten Goombas, and activate the blue coin switch by the red coin Star and claim the Power Star. (Was that a runon sentence?)

Saving Mario
Character: Yoshi
In the upper right of the lobby, there is a door that holds the Secret Slide and Rec Room. Go through the door in the Rec Room with an 8 on it and jump into the Mario painting.
Goomboss Battle
Follow the path, avoiding the purple gas. Keep going straight ahead over three logs and up a vine with a Lakitu buzzing around it. Cross the Goomba bridge and drop down into the pit, where you will meet Mario's captor, Goomboss.
Boss: Goomboss
Goomboss summons a string of Goombas behind him as he waddles around the arena. To defeat him, eat a Goomba and wait until Yoshi puts him in an egg. Once he does, fire the egg at Goomboss. Repeat this twice more to get the key to Mario's room.

The ! Switch
Character: Mario
In the lobby, stand in the center and look upward. You will be transported into a special sky stage. Land on the platform and ground pound the ! Switch, which will make the red ! boxes solid. Easy.

Up, Up, and Away: Using Mario's Power Flower
Mario's Power Flower inflates you like a balloon, allowing you to reach higher places. Mario can also get the Wing Cap, which lets you soar through the air like a bird. Whee!

Barbecue Time: Using Yoshi's Power Flower
Yoshi's Power Flower lets you breathe fire. Melt ice and fry enemies with this.

Bowser 1
Go to the big Star door, and you'll be in a hallway with a pretty picture of Princess Peach. That picture, however, quickly turns into a sinister one of Bowser, and you fall through the floor.
Bowser in the Dark World
Character: Mario
When you start out, go straight ahead and up the ramp, avoiding the fire. Hop on the elevator platforms and bash the ! Block for a 1-Up. Navigate between tha Amps and the crystals, and hitch a ride on the moving platforms. Cross the giant seesaw, activate the stairs, and hop into the pipe so you can square off with Bowser.
Boss: Bowser
After his speech, the King of Koopas will attempt to fry you with his fire breath. Avoid his fire, and grab him by the tail, spinning him by swirling the stylus on the Touch Screen. Hurl him into a spiked bomb around the edges, and he will explode, leaving a big, shiny key to the basement.

Course 5: Big Boo's Haunt
Note: For this course, you will need around 30 Stars. Once you have this many, a large Boo will appear in the hallway across from the entrance to the basement. Out the door is the courtyard, which is filled with Boos. Sneak up behind the biggest and punch it, and it will drop a cage. Approach it to enter the level.

Star 1: Go on a Ghost Hunt
Character: Mario
From the start, head straight forward into the mansion. The object here is to punch all the Boos (five of them) They are located in:
1. Second door on the left, behind the Boo wall (wait for it to emerge).
2. Same place as #1
3. Front left door next to the Mr. I
4. Front right door past the collapsing bridge.
5. Door on the right, next to the Red Coin
You will get a special message after defeating the Boos, so go to the lobby and prepare for a boss fight.
Boss: Big Boo
Big Boo is no different than any other Boo, only bigger (duh). A good technique is to face away from him and when he draws close, backflip and ground pound. He will shrink after each hit, and three will finish him off. His Power Star flies to the second floor, and stairs rise up for you.
Note: If you wish, you can skip this Star for now and return as Luigi by triple-jumping onto the second floor and freeing him (explained below). Once you have Luigi, you can use his Invisibility Power Flower to slip through the Boo wall and dispatch Boos 1 and 2 quickly.

Star 2: Ride Big Boo's Merry-Go-Round
Character: Luigi
When you start, veer of to the left and enter the small shack outside. Go down the elevator, then go through the door. When you emerge from the following corridor, turn left and then turn right at the big, black block. Head through the door on the right, and you'll be on the Merry-Go-Round. Take out all the Boos here, avoiding the fire. Once all the Boos are gone, you will be faced by Big Boo once again.
Boss: Big Boo
You fight Big Boo the same way as you did previously, except the arena is moving. The best technique with Luigi is to do the Copter Spin and land on Big Boo (Luigi cannot ground pound during a Copter Spin). After three hits, Big Boo will relinquish a Power Star.

Star 3: The Secret of the Haunted Books
Character: Anyone works
In the mansion lobby, go up the stairs to the second floor and enter the closest door on the left. The next room is lined with books, and some will fly out and try to hurt you. Follow the path until you reach a bookcase with three books sticking out that blocks your path. Punch the books in this order: Middle, right, left. The
bookcase will slide over, revealing a door. On the other side is a Power Star.

Star 4: Seek the Eight Red Coins
Character: Luigi
More Red Coins:
1st Floor
1. First door on the left, behind the piano
2. Second door on the left, on a bookcase
3. Opposite #2
4. Door on the right, next to the Boo
2nd Floor
5. On the lobby ceiling, in the center. Use the Copter Spin to reach it.
6. Left-center door, on the mesh by the far wall.
7. Right-center door, under a coffin
8. Door on the balcony with the ! Block, on the floor (can also use door on the right)
The Power Star appears on the left side of the 2nd Floor

Star 5: Big Boo's Balcony
Character: Luigi
On the 2nd Floor, go through the door on the right. Jump on the ! Box and Copter Spin onto the ledge above. Enter the room with the Blue Coin Switch, and open the door on the right. You will be outside on the balcony, where you will fight Big Boo one last time.
Boss: Big Boo
This is the last time you have to face Big Boo, and he hasn't changed a bit. Use the Power Flower here to become invisible. Three Copter Spins defeats him and the Power Star appears on the roof. Use the Copter Spin to obtain it.

Star 6: Eye to Eye in the Secret Room
Character: Luigi
For this Star, go to the room with the Blue Coin Switch, and go onto the balcony to get Luigi's Invisibility Power Flower from the ! Box. Go back through the door and through a Boo wall opposite of where you entered. Inside is a giant Mr. I. Wait until you become visible again, then run circles around it to kil it.

Star 7: Switch Star in the Basement
Character: Wario
This is a difficult Star to get, because you need to be Wario, but you also need to be fast. Go into the shack and proceed to the same area that you went to for Star 2. This time, punch the black block to reveal a Star Switch. Step on the switch, then run and long jump to the Star Sphere. Do NOT try to cut through the
Merry-Go-Round, as the timer still ticks away when you open a door. With a lot of practice, you will finally be able to long jump your way to the Power Star.

The Haunted Coins
For the 100-coin Star here, punch all the Boos and defeat all the Mr. I's. Also, grab the red coins and break the Crazy Box outside of the shack.

Liberating Luigi
Big Boo Battle
Character: Mario
The key here is to listen for the ghostly laugh, which will direct you to Luigi. The path you must take is: Right, left, right, left. After following the pattern, you will reach a room with a collapsing bridge. Cross it, hop up on the checkered platforms, and fall down the hole on the above floor. You will be dropped in a large room with a mirror. Approach the mirror and you will be confronted by King Boo.
Boss: King Boo
King Boo, unlike other Boos, can spit blue flames at you for his attack. To damage him, use the backflip-ground pound method. After each hit, he will alternately appear visible in the real half of the room or the mirror half. After three hits, he will give up the key to where Luigi is being held.

The Invisible Man: Using Luigi's Power Flower
With Luigi's Power Flower, you can become completely invisible to enemies, and even pass through some walls, such as Boo walls and ice walls. Use this to get the jump on some foes.

Course 6: Hazy Maze Cave
Star 1: Swimming Beast in the Cavern
Character: Luigi
Head to the left and long jump over the pit. In the next room, Copter Spin over the large hole with the boulders, and run up the path and into the door on the right. Go down the elevator, and jump into the water, where you will see a blue monster. Climb onto its back and ground pound, which will lower its head. Grab the Wario Hat and direct the monster to the center island by facing that direction. Smash the boulder for a Power Star.

Star 2: Elevate for Eight Red Coins
Character: Luigi
Take the right path from the start and enter the door across the pit. You will emerge right next to a red pole. Move to the edge and Copter Spin, aiming yourself to the left at the purple pole. Hitch a ride on the checkered platform, grabbing all five of the Red Coins. Drop down to the work elevator (the platform with four arrows). Step on the forward arrow until you hit the wall, then push the right arrow, breaking both blocks for red coins. When the elevator hits the wall, Copter Spin to the platform on the left for red coin #8. The Power Star appears in the center of the floor.

Star 3: Metal Head Wario Can Move
Character: Wario
Note: A good way to get this star is to go in as Luigi and get a Wario Cap.
Go back to the cavern where you got Star 1. Grab Wario's Metal Power Flower and follow the path underwater to the left. Step on the purple ! Switch when you reach it, which will open up the gate to a door for you to go through. If you went in as Luigi, let the Scuttle Bugs hit you to knock off your cap, then Copter Spin to the Power Star. If you entered as Wario, then do your best to long jump across.

Star 4: Navigating the Toxic Maze
Character: Wario
Go right and into the same area as in Star 2. This time go down the red pole and enter the second door on the left. In here, drop down the hole by the two signs into the Hazy Maze for which this level was named. Quickly run out of the purple gas and kill the Snufit for some coins. Get the Metal Power Flower and turn left at the blue coin switch. Backflip up the vined ledge and go up the elevator for a Power Star.

Star 5: A-Maze-Ing Emergency Exit
Character: Wario
Like the pun in the title? I thought it was pretty amusing. Go back to the Hazy Maze and follow the same path as last time, but instead of going up the first ledge, continue further until you see another ledge (not marked by vines). Backflip up here and go up the elevator at the end of the hall. Grab onto the grate above you and move on the right path until you come to a ledge with a Power Star.

Star 6: Watch For Falling Rocks
Character: Wario
Go to the area off to the left with the falling boulders. On a platform to the left of the entrance is a black block containing a Mushroom. Grab this to become Super Wario, then let three rocks break on you for a Power Star.

Star 7: Underground Switch Star
Character: Wario
Go to the right and into the room with the red coins. In the upper-left corner on the floor is a black block. Smash it to reveal a Star Switch. Press it, then begin to long jump to the stairs by the work elevator. Jump up on the ledge without having to pull yourself up, and long jump off the work elevator to the Star Sphere for a Power Star.

Coins in the Cave
To get 100 coins here, use Luigi to get all the red coins and coins from enemies, the put on a Wario Cap to get the blue coins in the Hazy Maze.
