Mario Party 2 Strategy Guide

By Crazy Packers Fan

If you own a Nintendo 64 and don’t own any of the Mario Parties, you don’t know the definition of a fun
multi-player game. Mario Party 2, in my mind, was the most fun of the Mario Parties to play, and contrary to
popular belief, I really think the game-makers put the most effort into this one. All three of the Mario Parties
are so close, I gave them all the same score, and I still feel that they’re practically equal overall. But this one was just a little bit different, for some strange reason. It had that little bit of added excitement to it. And that is why I’m making a strategy guide for it, not to mention that I almost always win on every board game in this one. This strategy guide is complete with hints and help on mini-games and a few things to keep in mind on the boards and with the items, not to mention some important and amusing questions.

I’m not going to go through all the controls at one place, because they are different for each mini-game, and remember to first read the instructions, as they’ll explain how the rest of the game goes, which I’ll get to later.

First I’ll start out with the mini-games, listed in alphabetical order under the category of what kind of mini-game it is, giving each a difficulty score: a 0-4 star rating on how hard I think it is. Then I’ll give how much it costs to buy it on Mini-Game Island. Finally, I’ll explain what to do for each team, or in a 4-player mini-game, just what to do. It’s pretty simple and not very complex.

4-Player Mini-Games

Abandon Ship
*** 150 Coins

You’re on a ship, having to climb up masts to avoid the rising tides below. You’ve got 30 seconds to reach
the top. This is a classic “button-masher”, something to get used to in MP2. You must hit the A button repeatedly, so I recommend using a non-sticky controller (a controller that doesn’t have a sticky A button- I have two sticky controllers out of four). On the way up, you’ll have to avoid Cheep Cheeps that are flying up and trying to knock you down a little bit on the mast, as well as posts sticking out of the mast. Use your Control Stick to go left and right to avoid those obstacles. I recommend skipping the coins and just being really fast with the button-pressing; if you’re losing badly, then just give up on winning and collect a couple of coins and lose. I can’t say much more than work on pressing the A button quickly. It helps sometimes to put the controller on a flat surface so you don’t have to hold it while pushing the A button repeatedly. This is useful in lots of other mini-games in MP2. The first to the top wins the 10 coins.

Bombs Away
**1/2 50 Coins

You’re on an island playing Survivor. Really! Cannonballs will come flying in, and you should run away from them if you don’t want to be “voted off” first. You can also jump, which is good because when a cannonball hits the island, you’ll be stunned if you’re on the ground. Staying in the middle is usually helpful, because you’re away from accidentally falling off, and also stay away from opponents, who can box you into getting hit by a cannonball. Watch the cannonball’s shadow, as it will always tell you where it’s going. If you survive 30 seconds, you’ll win the 10 coins.

Bumper Balls
no stars 100 Coins

This is one of the most fun Mario Party mini-games ever! You have a minute to try to knock others off by
bumping into them while staying on the island yourself. It’s easier to knock off a computer than a live opponent. Here’s how. Stay over near an edge, and when an opponent comes at you, quickly move out of the way. If they don’t fall off themselves, then turn around and start pushing them, as they would have had
to slow down and turn around, near the edge you were at. Then start to bump them constantly, being careful
not to get tricked yourself, and you’ll knock them off. This is a very easy mini-game to win, but when against live opponents, it’s a different story. I’ve had trouble knocking off live opponents who don’t know what they’re doing but know how to stay in the middle and out of trouble. In a couple of cases, there is ice or bumps on the island to try to mess you up, but if you don’t overcommit to try to knock someone off, you should survive easily. If you’re the only one remaining before 60 seconds have elapsed, you take the 10-coin prize.

Deep Sea Salvage
1/2 150 Coins

This is one of those “bonus games”-  the ones where everyone gets the coins they collect and there’s no 10-coin winner at the end. Simply use your Control Stick to go left and right, while holding down your A
button will make you go up. It’s probably best to stay in the middle of the water, where you are able to avoid the hammers thrown by the Hammer Brother while chasing after the coins he tosses. Going to the bottom won’t help in most cases, unless a whole bunch of coins are down there. If not, then stay in the middle. Going to the top is a risk. You chance getting hit by a hammer while having the best chance of collecting a coin, but your low reaction time will hurt. Let someone else go up there and take the hit while staying in the middle. It will help you be able to collect more coins.

Dizzy Dancing
** 150 Coins

Since some of you haven’t ever played a NES, you’d have no idea what the heck this thing you’re playing on is. It’s an old record-player, which you start out on. But, after the beginning, you’ll be all dizzy, and your Control Stick will be off its normal alignment. That means that up might be down and down might be up. It’s completely random the way it ends up, and I’ve even had it stay the same a couple of times. You want to jump to get on the record, then get to the middle of the record and jump to touch the musical note. Always start out by turning your controller upside-down and moving your Control Stick in a direction. If your character moves the same direction as you pushed, then you’ve got the right alignment. So push the stick until you find the direction that is the same as the diagonal towards the note. Then jump (A) while pushing that direction. Finally, jump when you are underneath the musical note’s shadow, and don’t hit a direction when you do. If opponents get in your way, hit B to attack them, and in mid-air, Z will Hip Drop on them. Now if you didn’t get the alignment right, you’ll have to keep trying until you do. You may have to hold the controller in a strange way to get it to work, but that’s the only way to win and claim the 10-coin reward.

Hexagon Heat
no stars 50 Coins

This is one of my favorite mini-games, although it is very easy. Toad will raise a flag, and you must run to the hexagon of that color (similar to Mushroom Mix-Up in Mario Party). After you get on that hexagon, I suggest standing on the edge closest to the center hexagon, so if some loser is slow, he won’t be able to jump on the hexagon because you’ll be in the way. You can jump with A and Hip Drop with Z in mid-air, but I suggest you refrain from Hip Dropping on someone when the other hexagons are going down, because you may bounce off them and take a lava bath. Only Hip Drop on someone when all the hexagons are level, right as one is about to rise, so they’re stuck in the lava. Always run back to the center platform as soon as the platforms come out of the lava, so you’re ready for the next time. Keep in mind that Toad could hold up a silver flag, which means you should stay on the silver platform or else you’ll be in an uncomfortable sauna.
By the way, there isn’t a timer in this mini-game, it’s just survival, and the survivor wins 10 coins.

Honeycomb Havoc
*** 150 Coins

This is one of those mini-games chess and math lovers would love: a game based on thinking ahead and adding and calculating. It’s truly a mind game, but there’s some luck involved too. You don’t want to get the
honeycomb. You can choose one or two on your block, and you get as many pieces of fruit/coin/honeycomb as you got on your block. If there are five or less pieces of fruit/coin before the next honeycomb and everyone’s still in, choose 2. If there are more, pick 1. With three players remaining (including yourself), then the same goes for four or less pieces. Now with only two players left, it’s fun time. You want your opponent to have 3 pieces of fruit/coin to go. So with 4 pieces of fruit/coin, pick 1, and with 5, pick 2. With 1 or 2, you obviously will pick the same number so your opponent gets the honeycomb. With 3, pick 1. If your opponent is stupid or makes a mistake, including the AI, then they may accidentally hit 1. With 6 or more to go, it’s more complicated, so that’s where all the luck comes in. You get 10 coins for winning. People who want “thinking” in video games should like this game. I’ve got mixed emotions about this game. If I win, I like it, and if I lose, I
don’t.

Hot Rope Jump
1/2 50 Coins

It’s a very simple premise for this game: jump over the Podoboos and don’t let them hit you. You want to be the last person standing. The key to this game is timing your jumps and remembering that holding the A button will give a high jump, while a quick press of A will give a short jump. It’s not very hard, and there will be a maximum of 20 swings that the line of fire makes. Always watch out for the quick change in speed of the fireball lineup. It’s really not that hard to learn, and quick learning will earn you 10 coins.

Lava Tile Isle
*1/2 150 Coins

This is maybe one of the most fun games to play in the game. It requires some quick thinking and jumping.
Jumping is A, of course, with Z in mid-air bringing a Hip Drop, and B being a punch. I suggest that you do
not Hip Drop at all in this game. The tiles below you move every couple of seconds, and you must get on a
different tile if your tile is moving, or you’ll fall through. If you punch an unsuspecting opponent, they’ll fall right off. Punching is the easiest way to attack an opponent, as it involves no risk on your part. If you pay attention and jump right, you shouldn’t have much trouble winning 10 coins.

Mecha-Marathon
* 200 Coins

This is one of the simplest games ever to learn, but that doesn’t mean it’s easy to win. All you have to do is hit the A and B buttons simultaneously (at the same time, for you vocabulary-haters) as fast as possible in 10 seconds to wind up your Fly Guy. Put the controller on a flat surface, and use your index and middle fingertips to hit the buttons. Then just start hitting the buttons as many times as possible! If you win the distance contest, you win 10 coins.

Platform Peril
**** 50 Coins

I’ll just say it right now: this is the hardest mini-game ever. I moan and groan every time it comes up on the roulette at the end of a turn. I can’t stand this game. After all, I’ve only won it maybe once or twice, and I still haven’t got the hang of it yet. Here’s what you must do: point the Control Stick in the upper-right position while pushing A to jump. That’s where I go wrong. I either run too far or don’t jump far enough, and that brings many losses to me. There are pyramids that get in your way and conveyor belts that throw off your timing, and bonus coins to jump at if you want them, as well as an annoying scrolling screen. Of course, unless you’ve got AI, you’ll probably never see anything except for that annoying scrolling screen and your character falling through a gap. If you win, you get 10 coins, but don’t count on winning.

Roll Call
*1/2 200 Coins

This is a counting game- simply count the number of Toads, Boos, or Bob-ombs in the grassy area, using A
to add one to your count and B to subtract one from your count. The easiest way to do it is to hit the A button as you count, getting a general idea of how many there are. Then, count a second time, trying to separate the characters into mental groups. Watch out for toadstools in the Toad count, the way Boos disappear and reappear in the Boo count, and Bob-omb explosions in the Bob-omb count (subtract those Bob-ombs that have exploded). It takes some quick thinking to win this one, and no real gaming skill. But it’s worth it if you want the 10 coins for winning.

Shell Shocked
**1/2 200 Coins

This is my favorite MP2 mini-game, and possibly my favorite mini-game of all-time. I love it. It’s got the
classic tank action from Combat for the Atari. It’s got the angles, the gambles, and the hide-and-seek type of action that makes this a true classic. Whether you play with live opponents or computers, you’ll surely have a good time.

Now, for the strategy itself. The controls are: A is fire a straight shot, B is fire a lob shot, and Z lets you shoot in one direction while you can drive in another. And the Control Stick obviously moves your tank! What’s the safest thing to do? Play the waiting game. Let one of your opponents take out one of the others, and make sure you’re behind a pipe. Then either face to one side and blast an opponent on the side straight on (A), or start blasting lob shots over the pipe in front of you (B). Only in certain conditions should you ever leave your spot, like if an opponent knows your strategy, or if you can’t shoot your opponent whatsoever. With this type of strategy, it should give you a good chance at winning the 10 coins.

In the Mini-Game Coaster on the Hard level, three Baby Bowsers will challenge you to this contest as the
final battle. They’re all against you, so they won’t take each other out. You must get to a pipe and take out an opponent on the way there. Then you can think about moving around and going for some quick shots at your other two opponents. It may be a real gamble with high risk, but it’s the only way to win.

Shy Guy Says
* 50 Coins

This is an easy game to learn. If Shy Guy raises a white flag with A, press A. If Shy Guy raises a red flag with B, press B. Of course, you must press it fast and hold it down, or Shy Guy will shoot you down. Like some other mini-games, it’s best to put the controller on a flat surface again, and use a finger from each hand on the buttons, left hand on B and right hand on A. Also, Shy Guy will fake you out by holding up one and then quickly switching to another. You’ve got to wait until he’s got one up for sure to hit the correct button, but you’ve got to do it right after he puts that true flag up. But actually, here’s the real trick of this mini-game, something almost no one notices: Lakitu.

Lakitu will fly by in his cloud, and if he goes fast, Shy Guy will not fake you out. But if he goes slow, then Shy Guy will try to fake you out. He will either single, double, or possibly even triple fake. It may take a while to get used to that double fake, especially if you’re used to the original Mario Party single fake, as you’ll be quickly hitting the second flag’s button. Triple fakes are very rare, so don’t worry about them unless there are only two players to go and the game is going very long. With quick thinking but also a bit of patience, you’ll take the 10 coin prize.

Skateboard Scamper
***1/2 50 Coins

In the original Mario Party, the second-most dreaded mini-game that could show up on the roulette was
Skateboard Scamper, behind Platform Peril. In this game, it’s a little different. I’ve actually won this game quite a few times, and for a while, I was unbeatable at it. But then, other games came and now I stink at it all over again. Again, you may want to put the controller on a flat surface. Then, start tapping the B button really fast to skate, and A will jump. There are three times to jump: once over a single step, twice over a group of steps, or once on a ramp. If you don’t jump up ramps, you won’t win, simple as that. It’s the only way you can gain time on computers. If you learn this game and practice a lot, you could become a master at it, and take the 10 coins every time.

Slot Car Derby
*** 150 Coins

Here’s another original Mario Party dreaded game that suddenly became fun and worthwhile in this version.
All you do is push up to accelerate and let go to slow down. The nice thing is that you don’t do any steering. That is done automatically. Here’s the problem: if you go too fast around bends, you’ll spin out, as a punishment for trying to beat the computers. There are four laps and three different racetracks. Here’s a hint: as soon as you see exhaust coming out around a turn, let go of the Control Stick, but not the whole way. Keep it just a bit tilted, until you make it around the corner. Always have it completely tilted on any straightaway, and you should get the 10 coins for winning.

Sneak ‘N’ Snore-
**1/2 150 Coins

A Chain Chomp is sleeping, and you’ve got to sneak in your barrel to hit a button and then go back through
the door behind you. Push down to go towards the button, up to go towards the door, and always remember
to release it to hide in your barrel. If the Chomp wakes up and you’re even partially sticking out of your barrel, you’re going to enjoy a trip in a warp pipe and lose. The Chomp will only wake up if his bubble is completely inflated, so as it’s getting smaller, push as hard as possible, start to push a little lighter when it’s getting bigger, and if you see it get to its biggest point, let go immediately. Always remember that the faster you are moving, the longer it will take for you to get back in your barrel. With this strategy, you should be able to beat computers, who will be a lot slower. It should also beat any other live opponents, and you’ll be 10 coins richer.

Tile Driver
1/2 150 Coins

In this mini-game, there is a certain picture you want to show up, of either a Goomba, Troopa, or Boo. To
change the picture on one of tiles, you must Hip Drop on it (first jump with A, then Hip Drop in mid-air with
Z). First, memorize what order the pieces go in, as you’ll want to hit certain blocks twice and other ones once. Also, some will already be on the right side. Always jump to another block; don’t walk. If you jump over there, you’re gaining time, as you can then Hip Drop in mid-air. In case you can’t see part of the featured character (the Goomba, Troopa, or Boo), look at the color scheme around the character to see which one the tile belongs to. This game isn’t that hard, as long as you don’t accidentally Hip Drop on a block that’s already on the right side, as it will take longer to fix it. With just a little bit of practice, you should be able to win the 10 coins every time.

Tipsy Tourney
1/2 50 Coins

This is a simple game: just lead the Troopa shell over all the panels, and once it touches each small tile, it makes them disappear one by one. Your character will tip the table with his/her weight. The easiest way to get the panels uncovered is jumping from corner to corner, letting the shell follow you and getting all of the outside panels uncovered. Then start running from corner to corner, stopping in the middle so your shell follows you over all of the panels. It’s easier done than said, and mostly only live opponents can beat you. If you’re better than them, then you’ll win the 10 coins.

Toad in the Box
1/2 150 Coins

Another simple game. Get Toad on your box five times and you win. Hit A to jump. If you get it wrong, you’ll
get hit, and getting a Bowser will give you a Baby Bowser beating. The first two times are almost too easy to get Toad. The third time, the instant you see green (for Bowser), hit A, and you’ll get Toad. The fourth time, the instant you see black (for Chain Chomp), hit A, and you’ll get Toad. The fifth time is completely random, but if you get a big lead, only a cheating computer will take the 10 coins.

Totem Pole Pound
1/2 150 Coins

This is getting pathetic, as there’s four easy mini-games in a row here. All you do in this one is hit A to jump and Z to Hip Drop. Hit Z at the very top of your jump to get the hardest hit on your pillar. Late in the game, if you’ve only got a little bit of the pillar to go, then try a smaller jump and Hip Drop to win, as you just want speed. That’s all it takes to win and get the 10 coin prize for winning.

2 vs 2 Mini-Games

Here come the rarer mini-games, the ones that are played due to two players landing on red spaces and
the other two on blue. It doesn't seem like it would happen more than once per game, but the green spaces
that change colors make these come up more often than you'd think. Anyway, these are fair towards both sides in most cases, and I'll include difficulty ratings as always...

Balloon Burst
no stars 50 Coins

This game is too simple: just push A, then B, then A, then B, and so on. Make sure you hold down the button
until the pump is all the way down, then hold the other one to bring it all the way up. Get the timing right, and you win for sure. It's easier done than said, really.

Bobsled Run
** 100 Coins

Start out by banging on the A button repeatedly to push the bobsled, then, once you jump in, hold down the up button to go faster. The entire game comes down to whether you hit the speed boosts and don't hit walls. The first is towards the left early on, the second is in a "shortcut" route to the left halfway through the race, and the third is on the left near the end when there are no walls. Oh, and don't fall off the cliff, by the way. Basically, this game could be easy if your teammate is helping you steer and speed up, and it could be hard if your teammate is a computer who wants to blow the race and make you lose. I'm telling you, they'll throw the race, especially if another computer's in the race!

Cake Factory
*1/2 150 Coins

One person grabs a cake and the other grabs a strawberry, and the cake player must place the cake down first, before the other places the strawberry. You must hold down the A button while you bring the cake or strawberry to the table, and let go when you want to place it. Make sure you don't put a strawberry down first, and also don't put two cakes on top of each other. You're at an advantage when working with a
computer here, because the computer will wait for you or catch up to you, no matter what skill level he/she
is. Make sure when you press the button to reach out to grab an ingredient just a little bit early, because
there's that slight time for your arms to reach out. Also, if you miss, you'll sulk for a couple of seconds, so remember not to miss, or it'll hurt you a lot. By the way, whichever team gets more completed cakes wins. Just wanted to make that clear.

Destruction Duet
* 200 Coins

This is one of my favorite mini-games ever, one in which you completely destroy a Bowser statue. Contrary
to what you're thinking, it has nothing to do with destroying Bowser, it has to do with the fact that you can beat up on the other characters if you wish. Unlock this mini-game and buy it, then just play it over and over so you can beat on Mario all the time. It's a lot of fun, especially if you take three live players against one easy computer.

Oh, the mini-game. Jump (with A) onto the top of the Bowser statue, then start Hip Dropping on it (A then Z
in midair). It's the fastest, quickest, and easiest way to win. Your teammate can do one of three things: either punch (with B) at it, jump kick (A then B in midair) at it, or beat up on your opponents, which actually can help you almost as much as the other ways. I suggest your teammate just punches, though, because it's the most conservative way to win. Of course, it's a lot more fun to pound on your opponents, but I'm just talking about winning.

Dungeon Dash
no stars Buy all 4-Player, 2 vs. 2, and 1 vs. 3 Mini-Games

This game is way too easy. If you're working with a computer, just constantly press left, right, left, right, and so on. If you're working with a living, breathing teammate, just take the controller off him/her and use both controllers at once. Yes, it's that easy. As long as your opponents make one tiny mistake, which they will, you'll win.

Handcar Havoc
*** 100 Coins

Simply press the A button repeatedly, as fast as you can, and lean your handcar into turns, and you'll be all right. Okay, that's what I've been told, but this mini-game's got a lot more than that. If you don't lean your handcar into the turns, you lose, at least against computers. Unfortunately, which way is "into the turn"? Is it opposite the way you seem to automatically lean? Or is it the way it looks like you're going to fall? I've never been able to figure this out, because I've tried both ways and I still can't win easily. I really think it's the way it looks like you're going to fall, but I could be wrong here. I guess trial and error is the best way to figure it out, although with me, it's error and error.

Looney Lumberjacks
no stars 150 Coins

Just like Balloon Burst and Dungeon Dash, this is an extremely easy mini-game. It's like those two games
combined into one. Push and hold down A when an A's over your head until you cut through the log, then
press and hold B when a B is floating over your character's noggin. To make things easier on you, if you're on a live teammate's side, just use his or her controller as well as yours, just pushing the opposite button on his or her controller as your controller. With a computer, it's ultra-easy, because you don't have to worry about them making mistakes, as they're programmed to do it right, even on the easy level.

Magnet Carta
***1/2 150 Coins

This game will give you a run for your money with its difficult controls to the car. Press up to make your car go forward, no matter what direction the car is facing, press down to make it go backward, even if the
car is facing down, and left or right will be left or right from the car's perspective, not from the way you see it. It takes a while to learn these controls.

Next, you'll have to try to stay out of your teammate's way, but at the same time, go for the big treasure chest right in the middle, then bring it back to your home, or goal, or whatever you want to call it. Then, either have your opponent grab other coin items, or let him or her go and try to block your opponents from getting their coin items into their home or goal. The game is hard due to the hard controls, but remember that the single coins are worth 1 coin, the bags 5, and the chest 10 coins.

Sky Pilots
**** 200 Coins

This is one of the hardest mini-games in this game. One player steers the plane left and right, trying to steer for the rainbow rings to get some speed boosts. The other player must push up and down repeatedly but
slowly to make the wings go up and down. Always make sure they go the whole way up, and the whole way down. It doesn't seem hard, but from computer cheating (even on the easy level) and from the cannon blasts and Bowser heads, you'll be having a tough time making it to the finish line.

Speed Hockey
**1/2 150 Coins

Although this game is just an advanced style of Pong, it's still not as easy as you may think. A shell bounces up and down, left and right, all over the place, and you must prevent it from going in your goal and try to bounce it into the opponents' goal. There isn't a real strategy to this mini-game, except to just hit the shell and stay out of your teammate's way if you're in front of him/her and he/she's hitting the shell.

Toad Bandstand
no stars 100 Coins

This game is too, too simple: just hit the A button when the box passes over the instrument on your
character's line. I don't know what else I can say about this game, because it's too, too easy.

Torpedo Targets
**** 150 Coins

In this game you must hit the targets underwater, trying to hit more than your opponent. You'll have one
player steering as the pilot, and the other shooting the torpedo. The player who pilots the submarine must
use the Control Stick to steer, holding the A button to accelerate and the B button to go in reverse. This
player is basically the one who the entire mini-game rests upon, because the other player won't be able to
hit the target without him. That other player must press A to launch the torpedo and may use the Control Stick to steer the torpedo towards the target. Remember that hitting up makes it go down and vice versa. You can also try hitting your opponents' submarine, because that will slow them down. Sometimes, the only way to win is to just keep on firing torpedos and hope you get lucky, because it is so hard to steer the craft. This is one of those games where draws can happen very often, and it is very hard to win, although losing doesn't happen that often either. If you win, be happy, because it's very hard to do so.

1 vs 3 Mini-Games

These are all the fun mini-games that happen because one moron had to land on a red space while the rest
are on blue, or maybe vice versa, though that's very rare. You have a game where three players are on one team, and the other player is on the other team. These games are usually rigged towards one side, which is why I'll give a difficulty for the one player, and the 3-player team in most games gets a difficulty rating in stars
of four minus the one player's difficulty rating. There is one particular game that I've never won on the 3-player side, and I'll explain later...

Archer-ival
**1/2 150 Coins

1P: You pull out an arrow with A, then shoot it with A again. You walk left and right with the Control Stick also. The pulling out the arrow is stupid, as it gives your opponents a slight advantage. The best thing
about this for you is that there are Baby Bowser, Boo, and Toad coin targets as well as your rivals. If you
want to win then leave those three coin targets in their places and go after the other players. You'll sometimes see a coin target trap the last one in place. However, more likely you'll see a coin target move at the last second, foiling your shot so you hit the coin target instead of your real opponent. You have to nail all three opponents to win 10 coins, but the three coin targets will give you coins as well. Of course, as long as all three opponents are still standing, they'll take 10 coins each.

3P: Simply try not to get stuck on the edge with a coin target trapping you, or you'll be shot off. Move while the arrow is in midair, too, so it misses you. Remember you only need one player to still be standing at the finish for your team to win 10 coins per player.

Bob-omb Barrage
1/2 150 Coins

1P: This must be one of the easiest mini-games I've ever seen. Just swim away from the Bob-ombs. If you're
against computers, you may have trouble, but against live opponents you'll probably not need to worry.
Stay to the sides and at a very difficult angle to the three shooters, and you'll be fine.

3P: This game is not fun for you if you're throwing the Bob-ombs. You first pull the Control Stick back, then let go to release your Bob-omb. To make it go shorter, release it slowly, while to go farther, release it quickly. Also, move your Control Stick left or right as you have it held back to rotate your character. Sounds easy? Maybe, but wait until you play it. You'll hate playing it, though sometimes I like playing this game just for the music, strange as it sounds. If you somehow hit the one player, each player wins 10 coins.

Bowl Over
***1/2 100 Coins

1P: You're going to wish Bob-omb Barrage came up on the roulette, because this game is really hard. You
walk left or right to start out, then push A to release your shell, then use the Control Stick to direct the shell as it goes. Don't use the Control Stick too much as the shell spins, however, because the shell is overly sensitive to movements. Two of the courses don't really matter where you start, as they are easy to navigate, but the one with an S-curve does. Start out to the far left, then, as the shell approaches the second turn, start to get it turned towards the pins. It doesn't sound too hard, but it is when you're trying first not to get the shell off the course, then to hit three certain pins in only two shots. If you get all three opponents' pins, then you win 10 coins.

3P: To win 10 coins each, simply jump in a direction separate from your teammates. Have one stay in the far
left corner, the other in the far right corner, and the other in the middle. That way, it's really hard for your opponent to get you all in two shots. Your opponent will usually get one of the player pins, maybe on rare occasion two, but it's very hard for him to get three. There's more of a chance of him getting zero.

Crane Game
 ***1/2 50 Coins

1P: I'll tell you this right now: it is impossible for a player to pick up all three opponents if at least one of
them is not computer-controlled. Any picked-up live player can wiggle free using the A button rapidly.
However, against computers: go after the clocks first to extend your timer, dropping by pressing A and
rapidly, repeatedly pressing A to maintain your grab on the item. Then go after all three opponents, bringing
them in the same way in order to win 10 coins. You can tell that you're over whatever you want by looking at your shadow. This is another very hard game, but nevertheless, it can be done.

3P: Simply bang on the A button as fast as you can, over and over again, if you get grabbed. It's not that hard to slip out of a live player's grasp, but a computer player's grasp will get you for sure. If at least one character survives without getting captured, you win 10 coins.

However, I'm more of a fan of the old Crane Game in Mario Party than this one, where you could steal coins or collect coins, according to who or what you grabbed.

Filet Relay
* 150 Coins

1P: Simply hit the A button quickly and repeatedly to get through this race. Don't hit it too fast or you'll fall down, but keep it at a pretty fast pace. You have an advantage over your three rivals because if one of
the players is slower than the rest their chances are sunk, and the relaying slows them down.

3P: Each player does the same as the single player in this game: hit the A button quickly and repeatedly,
but not too fast that you'll fall. You have a slight disadvantage because if one player slips, it's over, plus time seems to be lost while you're passing the fish. It's not that hard of a game to learn, but winning as a team is the problem.

Lights Out
*1/2 150 Coins

1P: This is no doubt the most fair of all the 1-3 games. The one player swings his hammer with A for a vertical swing and B for a horizontal swing. Always use B, never use A. B lets you cover more ground with your swings. The hardest part is remembering where you are, but when the lights go back on for various seconds you'll be able to find your position. Go after opponents who are near to each other, as they'll usually be sitting ducks.

3P: Try to avoid any stars from the hammer being swung, and also avoid where you saw other opponents
get crushed. I also suggest avoiding other opponents, because that will make you a sitting duck. Basically,
spread out as much as possible and you will have a fair chance of winning.

Look Away
*** 150 Coins

1P: You want to get your opponents "out" by looking in the same direction as them at the end of the music.
The best way to look in an opponent's direction at the last second. It's hard, though, because your opponents have a split-second longer than you- enough to win easily.

3P: Since you have more time than your opponent on the top, simply watch him. Facing directly forward is an
option, and just keep still until that last split-second, in which you look down if the one on the top is looking straight forward. If not, then don't move. It's as simple as doing that five times to win the 10 coins for each player, even if one or two of your teammates are out.

Move to the Music
**1/2 200 Coins

1P: All you do is record moves by pressing buttons, then just waiting for your three opponents to see if they
get them right or wrong. One mistake knocks out an opponent, but all three opponents must lose in order for you to win. Against hard computers it's impossible to win as it's all random, but against live opponents, you can win...

3P: You must look at your head and your line of music, then press whatever button or Control Pad direction
when the rectangle passes over it. You have to put in your own direction or button if the single player doesn't (though I could be wrong, that's what makes sense).

Quicksand Cache
1/2 150 Coins

1P: Simply use the Control Stick to twist the quicksand, and try to get a live opponent to fall into the bottom pit with you. They'll be out of it, meaning more coins for you. Everyone keeps the coins won in this game, by the way.

3P: Simply use the Control Stick to run around and collect coins, but don't get sucked into the middle.
That's it. This is the one 1-3 game that is easy for both sides.

Rainbow Run
*1/2

To get this mini-game, beat the Mini-Game Coaster on Hard and buy all the Battle Mini-Games.

1P: You must walk across the rainbow by simply pressing straight forward on the Control Stick. Basically, don't stop except to avoid a cannonball that might hit you. Otherwise, keep going at full speed in this copy-off the original Mario Party's Tightrope Treachery.

3P: You must move around with the Control Stick and shoot with A to try to hit the one player or the bottom of the rainbow to shake the player off course. Either way, you'll have a pretty hard time winning.

Shock Drop or Roll
no stars 150 coins

1P: I must clarify this right now: if you're against Normal or Hard computers as the single player, you won't win. If you're against Easy computers or live players, you'll always win. Simply turn the crank left or right to try to get the other players to fall off the turbine thing. Try to go back and forth quickly to try to get them to miscalculate and fall off. If all three fall off, you win 10 coins. If at least one remains, they win 10 coins each.

3P: You might as well give up right now, as this game is impossible. I've never stayed on the turbine all 30
seconds before, to my best memory, and it's very hard to do so. You must stay on the turbine without falling
off, so use the left and right buttons to do so. Jump only if you absolutely need to, because most of the
time, if your rival changes directions in midair, you'll be shocked.

Item Mini-Games

Want a Magic Lamp? Well, go buy one, as the game will usually give you poor item selection in Item Mini-Games while giving good selection to AIs.

Seriously, though, these are the mini-games that, if you win, you get the item you won. That doesn’t sound right. Oh, you know what I’m talking about anyway! I’ll have the difficulty and the price and the land the game is in, so don’t worry.

Bowser Slots
**** 980 Coins Bowser Land

Put it this way: you won’t win this game. You hit A to hit the block, which stops one of the wheels of the
roulette. You need three in a row to win. I’ve won maybe one time in the 25 times I’ve played it. Maybe none at all. It’s close to impossible. To the one who made this mini-game... BOO!!!

Coffin Congestion
no stars 600 Coins Horror Land

Simple. Look at the items beforehand, and follow the one you want with your eyes, ignoring all the rest. Then go up and hit the coffin with the item you want, with A or B. It’s so easy, you’ll always get the item of choice. Even if you don’t follow that item, you still have a 5/6 chance of getting an item.

Give Me A Brake
***1/2 400 Coins Western Land

A toughy. You must hit A to stop the train cars, and then they’ll slide to a stop. You have hardly any way
of knowing which one you’ll get. My old way of figuring it out was the third or fourth one after the one you chose, but maybe that’s the Dorrie Dip game from Mario Party 3. Anyway, here’s another one where you won’t get the item you want, but you do have a 5/6 chance of getting an item. Not bad chances.

Hammer Slammer
*** 500 Coins Space Land

For this game, you must hit the A button repeatedly, then hit B to let the hammer go. It’s very hard to choose which item you want, and you don’t want to go too low or too high. One thing you can do is get the highest item. Simply hit the A button repeatedly until the hammer is standing straight up, then hit B. At that point, it will make you get the highest item on the metal bar thing. If you want a different item, you’ll need to either try to calculate its distance, or just hope for a miracle.

Mallet-Go-Round
**1/2 500 Coins Mystery Land

In this game, the instant you hit A, you will swing your mallet, hitting the nearest block, with no time lag between your button, your swing, and the block. However, since the blocks move very fast, it’s still very hard to get the one you want. I can usually get the first item after Baby Bowser the easiest (usually a Mushroom). All items take two hits; Baby Bowser needs only one to ruin your day.

Roll Out the Barrels
*1/2 400 Coins Pirate Land

In this game, you must follow the barrel with the item you want with your eyes the whole time it does a bunch
of stuff, then run over and hit the B button when you’re next to it. It’s really not that hard. You even have 5/6 of a chance of getting an item anyway.
