Peach's Castle (Peach sequence 4)
Badge: Last Stand

After Peach discusses Bowser's finer points with Twink, she'll decide to hunt around for news. Man, doesn't she get a newspaper? Even if you're brain-dead, you should know where the secret passage is by now, although this time the game will skip your having to walk through the hidden hallway. When you reach the main hall, head southeast and take the southern door in the east wall. Inside you'll find... Gourmet Guy? How did he get up here? He'll ask you to bake him a cake, and give you the Key so you can reach the kitchen.

Leave the dining room and unlock the door in the south wall. Head down the stairs, then take the door atop the stairs in the east wall, being careful to avoid the guards. Inside you can pick up the Last Stand Badge (return to the floor above to put it in the mysterious chest if you want Mario to have it), and you can have some fun with Toad by examining the cabinet. Leave this room and head north to the kitchen. When you get there, Twink will decide you should make some kind of strawberry cake. Why strawberry, I'll never know, but it sure is convenient that there are strawberries available against the north wall. Task master Twink will then take you through the steps that will produce a cake, in comical fashion, no less, since real cakes take much much longer to make. Making the cake is straight forward, so I can't say much to help you through it. Just do what Twink says, and take your time to make sure you're following his instructions. Even though no ! appears, you can place ingredients in the bowl by inspecting it. If you don't have a watch around when you put the cake in the oven, count one Mississippi, two Mississippi, and so on up to thirty.

When the cake is done, leave the kitchen. You'll skip straight to the dining room. (I guess it would be messy if the Koopatrols caught you with the cake.) Give it to Gourmet Guy and- the verdict is in! One out of one Gourmet Guys agree, this is the best cake since Tayce T.'s! Who knew? After calming down, Gourmet Guy will tell you that the fifth Star Spirit is in Mt. Lavalava, and Twink will fly off to bring Mario the news. Gourmet Guy will leave (though I think he's bigger than the door), then Kammy will come in and take a while to notice that she is talking to Peach. Heh heh heh, very funny, very funny...

If you made the cake wrong, Gourmet Guy will spit it out and tell you what the problem is. You'll have to fix it until you get it right... fortunately, it's not that hard.

Toad Town (12)
Boss: Fuzzipede
Badges: All or Nothing, FP Plus, HP Plus, Jump Charge

Muskular, the Star Spirit you just rescued, will have some choice words for you, during which Twink will show up and go crazy because he is the president of the Star Spirit fan club. Et tu, Twink? After Muskular gives you Chill Out, increases your Star Energy to four, and leaves, Twink will tell you what Peach found out. Funny, I don't think what Peach had to go through to get that information was that amazing. Anyway, after Twink flies over, head on over to Rowf, where you can buy the All or Nothing, FP Plus, HP Plus, and Jump Charge Badges. Check with Koopa Koot and Quizmo if you like, then take a visit to Toad Town's pier.

It seems there is a weird island floating just off the pier. Even stranger is that Koopa in the southwest corner, aka Kolorado, who introduces himself to you even though you already met. Walk onto the "island" and do a ground pound to wake it up. Seems it's not really an island at all, but a tuna- er, I mean, whale. Although it's disgusting, I suppose you owe the whale something for giving it a headache, so go inside it and take care of it's tummy ache. You'll need to use Watt to turn on the lights. Keep going east until you meet up with Fuzzipede, then teach him some manners.

After you cure the tuna- sorry, whale, it will offer you a ride to "anywhere" you want. Kolorado, who picks up on that anywhere and wants to go to Lavalava Island, is thrilled. It sure is convenient that you both want to go to the same place. When you're ready, take the, oh, marine creature out to the island. On the way, Chapter Five will be officially announced. Yay.

Jade Jungle
Enemy: Jungle Fuzzy
Items: Coconut, Letter, Mystery?, Repel Gel, Stop Watch

When you reach the island, check the northeast corner for a Stop Watch partially hidden behind a bush. You can also Hammer the tree back there for a Coconut. Most of the trees out here have one. Take the east exit. Walk east and save Kolorado from his Jungle Fuzzy assailant. Don't fail to pick up the Letter for Igor against the north wall on top of some rocks. You can also find two hidden ? Blocks along the north wall, one with a Repel Gel, the other with a Mystery?. The last tree before the east exit contains a Star Piece. Exit to Yoshi Village.

Yoshi Village
Items: Coconut, Fire Flower, Honey Syrup, Letter, Snowman Doll, Super Shroom, Tasty Tonic, Thunder Rage

Ah, happy happy Yoshi Village. There's a Star Piece panel on the little island northwest of the Village Leader, in front of the Raven statue. In the second section of town, you can deliver that Letter to Red Yoshi Kid, assuming you carried the chain Letter as far as Dane T., to receive a return Letter for the red Mushroom kid. In the store, you can buy a Snowman Doll, Thunder Rage, Fire Flower, Tasty Tonic, Honey Syrup, or Super Shroom. Head east to reach another section of Jade Jungle.

Jade Jungle (2)
Enemy: Spear Guy
Item: Jammin' Jelly

Head east and save Kolorado from his Spear Guy attacker. When you reach the end of the path you'll see Mt. Lavalava, but it's too far away for Parakarry to take you there. Kolorado will head back to Yoshi Village to look for clues on how to reach the volcano. Near where you stopped for the cut scene, there's a large tree against the north wall. Check behind it for a Jammin' Jelly. Then follow Kolorado back to Yoshi Village, and get ready to battle... whoops, no one! Kolorado will play a little trick on you as thanks for saving him twice already. Trouble is, this trick should really only fool you, not Mario, since Mario should be able to see him even though he calls for help from off screen.

Yoshi Village (2)

Everybody panic, the kids are missing! Let's all run around in circles for hours and hours and- Ok ok, calm down. The Yoshis will be of no help (as will Kolorado, of course), so head into the heart of Jade Jungle via the northwest exit from the east panel of the village.

Jade Jungle (3)
Enemies: Hurt Plant, Jungle Fuzzy, M. Bush, Spear Guy
Boss: Putrid Piranhas
Items: Fright Jar, Letter
Badge: Power Quake

Jade Jungle is an interesting area filled with all kinds of traps. For starters, don't jump on the plant with the two bronze pans or you'll get clapped flat (What, you're not flat already?) and lose 1 HP. Some of the short plants on the ground are friendly Heart Plants, but some are poisonous Hurt Plant you'll need to battle if you inspect them. You'll also have to battle an M. Bush when you inspect certain dark green bushes. Head north by inspecting the center of the long chain of bushes, then take the northeast exit.

You'll find Sushie the Cheep Cheep stuck in a tree, victim of the Fearsome 5's trap. How they set up this trap without going into the jungle earlier is a mystery to me, but anyway, if you get her down by Hammering the tree she's in three times, Sushie will join your party in search for the five troublesome young Yoshis. Continue east around to the pier, then use Sushie to swim over to the northeast corner of this area. Climb out of the water, collect the Star Piece on the ground in plain view, and Hammer the tree to collect a Letter for Ludw- er, I mean, Rust T. Swim back to the dock you came from, then head west out of this panel.

Now that you have Sushie, you can swim off the dock just to the east. Make your way to the middle of the area, where you can hop out of the water and collect the Power Quake Badge in the red ? Block. Get back in the water and swim west through the exit. This new panel of jungle has two docks you can use; hop up on the western one first. Head north on the little island, through the bushes. To get through the first row of bushes, inspect the middle of them. To get past the second row, inspect the darkest green bush and defeat the M. Bush. The red Yoshi kid is hiding behind the bush in the back and will head back to Yoshi Village after you speak to him. If you go back as well, you'll notice that the parent of the rescued child is no longer worried. Only the Village Chief and his friend remain worried throughout the search.

Hop off the dock and climb aboard the eastern dock in this area. Go as far east as you can, then south, and you'll find a Super Block. I suggest you use it on Sushie (in case you have a choice at this point), although Bow is the best friend to use here. Take the north exit. In the next area, don't take the coin atop the prickly plant, instead inspect the middle of the row of plants to the north to pass through. Hammer the tree in the eastern corner for a Fright Jar, then use the dock just to the west to swim to the dock to the north. When you reach the island, head east, jump on the flower, and press Z to spin up to the higher area. Head to the north wall and inspect the plants twice to uncover a warp pipe. Jump in, then switch to Watt so you can see your way around the dark cave. Talk to the green Yoshi kid in here and he'll go back home.

Leave the cave, drop down to the lower platform, and swim through the water exit to the west. In the next area, ignore the dock for a minute so you can swim past and pick up a Star Piece. Swim back to the dock, use it this time, and Hammer the stump in the ground to create a bridge. Cross the bridge to find the blue Yoshi kid. Only two more to go!

Head back west, jump into the water, and swim into the eastern panel as far as the southeast dock. Take the east exit to enter a brand new, never before seen by you area. Head east, stopping to Hammer the stump to create a second bridge, and take the east exit. To rescue the yellow Yoshi kid, you'll need to defeat the Putrid Piranhas. Once you do, head back west, then use the dock to swim to the southern dock, and take the south exit. Hammer the tree to the west to rescue the purple and final Yoshi kid. After the little fanfare, find the Thunder Rage in the nearby hidden block, then head south and Hammer the stump to create one last bridge. Cross it and take the south exit to return to Yoshi Village.

If you didn't get a fanfare when you found the purple Yoshi kid, that means you're still missing some kids. To find out which ones, go back to Yoshi Village and see which kids aren't there (or which parents are still panicking). Then backtrack in this guide to find where those kids are.

Yoshi Village (3)
Item: Jade Raven

The Yoshis are calm at last. Still, I bet this incident has shaved at least ten years off their lives. Not your problem though. Speak to the Village Leader and he'll give you the Jade Raven. Now head back into the jungle.

Jade Jungle (4)
Enemies: Hurt Plant, Jungle Fuzzy, M. Bush, Spear Guy
Boss: Putrid Piranhas and W. Magikoopa
Items: Egg, Fire Flower, Mushroom, Stone Cap, Ultra Stone, Volt Shroom
Badge: Happy Heart

Once back in the jungle, take the north exit via the bridge to the east, then swim north to the Raven statue. Inspect it and you'll be able to place the Jade Raven inside, which will cause the statue to move over so you can take another north exit. In the first area past the statue, you can pick up an Egg by pulling down the vine attached to the west tree. More important is that you inspect the bushes towards the east so that you can move north once again. Before leaving, find the hidden block in the northwest corner for a Stone Cap.

The next panel also has a hidden block in the northwest corner, this one containing a Volt Shroom. Aside from that, there are lots of blue blocks, and a geyser spurting out of a hole. Move one of the blocks until it covers the geyser. This will cause the geyser to come out of another hole, so move a different block over and cover it again. Repeat this process until the geyser comes up under the huge rock blocking the path to north. To get the geyser out of your way, move one of the blocks that you used to stop up the geyser's progess, then take the north exit.

You'll find a bunch of trees with vines. Pulling on the tree second from the east wall will reveal the exit. Additionally, there's a Fire Flower in the second tree from the west, and a Mushroom in the eastern-most tree. Take the north exit, then head east while searching for the hidden Star Piece panel in the middle of this area. You'll end up encountering Putrid Piranhas and W. Magikoopa- dispatch them. Once you do, take the east exit to make it to a huge tree. Enter it, climb up a ways, exit it, and continue heading east. When you see a doorway in the upper reaches of the tree, don't take it just yet. Continue east and pick up the Happy Heart Badge at the end of the path. Now you can take the doorway to Raphael the Raven.

After you talk to him, Raphael the Raven will end up helping you find a way into Mt. Lavalava, despite being an evil boss in Yoshi's Island years ago. Follow Raphael off the tree and talk to him whenever he stops. The net result of his help is a pulley system that will carry you over the lava stream to Mt. Lavalava. Kolorado, who can't wait and has no manners, takes a ride and falls to his death. Well, he takes a ride anyway. Before Raphael leaves, he'll give you the Ultra Stone. Maybe he's being nice because of how badly you beat him. Anyway, jump into the lift, ride up to the tree branch, and jump on the pulley to slide down to Mt. Lavalava.

Mt. Lavalava
Enemies: Lava Bubble, Putrid Piranha, R. Magikoopa, Spike Top, W. Magikoopa
Boss: Lava Piranha with Lava Buds and Petite Piranhas
Items: Life Shroom, Maple Syrup, POW, Super Shroom, Ultra Hammer
Badges: Dizzy Stomp, Fire Shield

The volcano is full of a bunch of tough enemies. Overall, I'd say that Watt is the best party member to use in here because he can cut right through Spike Top's defense, but he can't touch Lava Bubble at all. In fact, Kooper is your only friend who can touch Lava Bubble without using FP. Useful Badges in this area include Ice Power and Spike Shield, as well as the Power Plusses and All or Nothing.

In the first room, a Piranha will shout out a loud warning to... uh, someone. Take the east exit and get ready to laugh, as Kolorado will make a fool of himself yet again and fall in the lava. To not repeat what he did, you'll need to quickly jump east across the platforms, and through the east exit. In the room past this one, use the pully to slide down. If you jump on top of the wooden block on the ground, you can use Kooper to help you reach a POW. Drop down to the ground, then take the east exit. Avoid the Firebars and make it to the end of the room to reach a Super Block. At this point, all of your friends are eligible to receive a level up. In my opinion, Watt, Bow, and Sushie should be leveled up before the others. If you're using Watt now then he should probably get this Super Block. There is one other Super Block in the volcano, and either that one or this one should go to Sushie so she can use Tidal Wave against the boss.

Once you've made up your mind, take the west exit, then head all the way west, then drop down and head east. You'll reach another pulley which you need to take to reach the lower level. If you jump off the pulley, you may be able to land on a platform in the air and collect a Fire Shield Badge. When you make it to the floor, take the west exit. Walk down the passage and take another west exit. You'll emerge in a room divided by a lava stream. Head to the north wall and use Parakarry to get across the lava. To the west of it you'll find three blue blocks, as well as a hidden block containing a Life Shroom. Push them into the lava to form a chain of three that will block off the lava flow. Walk east across the blocks, move a bit to the south, and use Parakarry to get across the now-thin lava flow. Take the west exit.

This new room has two blue blocks to the south, not enough to block off the lava. However, if you push them both into the lava to form a two-chain heading west, you'll then be able to use Parakarry to get across the rest of the lava. Do so, then head north to the huge treasure chest. Inside is the Ultra Hammer, which will be a big help against the tough volcano enemies, not to mention that it will let you smash the Metal Block to the east. Do so, then take the east exit. You'll need to use Parakarry to cross the lava again, then head down the stairs to the southeast corner and smash the Metal Block in the doorway. Past it, you'll need to use Parakarry to cross yet another lava stream so you can reach a treasure chest containing a Dizzy Stomp Badge.

Return to the room to the west, then take the east exit closer to the north wall. Walk east through the long passage and take another east exit. Once back in the wide room, hunt around for a Spring which will bounce you up to Kolorado, who must have finally managed to cross the platforms in the second panel of the volcano. Smash the Metal Block and head east, then laugh at Kolorado once again as his pathetic jump causes him to miss the pulley and fall to the floor below, where he will claim he is giving it a solid inspection. Don't miss the pulley yourself, but if you jump off towards the end of it you may be able to land on a ledge with the second Super Block of the volcano. If Sushie isn't yet on Ultra level, I seriously suggest you give her this Super Block. Otherwise, pick Watt or Bow. This room also has a hidden Star Piece panel east of the Super Block.

Head west out of the Super Block room (you may need to smash another Metal Block to do so), then make it back to the top and use the pulley again. Take the east exit and walk a few steps before a huge thing that looks like a round Thwomp falls and rolls after you. You can't outrun it, so to avoid a loss of 1 HP use Bow to become transparent. The Thwomp (I'll call it that for convenience) will smash a hole in the east wall so you can go through it. Past it, head east until Kolorado catches up with you. Then push the blue block all the way east so that you can jump on top of it and then onto what would be a flight of stairs if it weren't covered with Metal Blocks. Smash all the Metal Blocks on the stairs, then use Bow to become transparent so that the second Thwomp won't run you over. The Thwomp will smash another hole in the east wall, and run over Kolorado at the same time. Bravo! Heh heh, Kolorado gets all wiggly.

Take the new east exit and follow Kolorado through the east exit here. You'll find a Super Shroom and a Maple Syrup in the ? Blocks, but no treasure. Head back west, then walk down the stairs to the west. When you reach the south edge of the area, just keep keading east as far as you can. Ignore the loud Piranha again and you'll end up encountering the boss of Mt. Lavalava. He doesn't know his grammar, but he is strong nonetheless. It's Lava Piranha with Lava Buds and Petite Piranhas. Put him on ice!

After you defeat Lava Piranha, you'll save Misstar, the fifth Star Spirit. The end-of-Chapter stuff will role, but then you'll end up back in the volcano, from which you must escape before the eruption. Kolorado is clearly more concerned with finding the treasure than escaping, but hopefully you're not. Simply follow Misstar, and use Bombette when she asks you to blow a hole in the wall. When you reach the passage, and just as Kolorado is about to reach his treasure, Misstar will pick everyone up and fly them out of the volcano. A treasure chest will get blasted out as well, to fall in Jade Jungle, and the Chapter will officially end.

Wow, five Chapters down, only three more to go. Don't stop now! Can't you hear Peach calling you? Ok ok, so maybe you can't. Play more anyway.

Go to the next chapter.
