Chapter Three: A Second Chance?
MARIO
I was walking up Shooting Star Summit. The sky was a dark, sad shade of blue. It depressed me, even more. Even the stars seemed to be shining dimly. Then I finally reached the top of the cliff. A brilliant blue light shone down and surrounded me. It picked me up, and I found myself being lifted to Star Road. I crossed the star bridge, and was in Star Haven. When I reached the Star Shrine, I went inside, and saw the Star Spirits. They greeted me in there usual friendly fashion. "Hello, Mario. What can we do for you today?" Twink asked, smiling.
"I need to make a wish," I said. Twink waited. "Could you revive Peach for me? You know she died a couple days ago. Please?" I waited.
Before Twink could speak, he was inturrupted by Malor. "No, there is nothing we can do."
I breathed deeply. "Why not?"
Mesaquador stepped foward and sighed. "Mario, if we just went around reviving everyone who died, the world would be a chaotic place."
Anger welled up inside me. "IF YOU DON'T INTERFERE WITH LIFE, WHY HAVE YOU BROUGHT ME BACK BEFORE?!"
"That is different. You are the chosen one. You are the protector of Plit." Malor said.
"Yeah? Well, maybe I don't want to be the hero. Maybe, I QUIT! That's right. I don't give a #^&(*& about you @#%%# if you won't help me. So, I'm out of here."
I turned around to leave. Mesaquador looked depressed, Twink looked horrified, and Malor looked plain furious. "YOU WATCH YOUR TONGUE, BOY! BEFORE I HAVE TO RIP IT OUT!!" He stormed after me. I sent a fireball at his face. He ducked, but looked stupified...
I was in Toad Town, and it was raining. Hot tears welled in my eyes, and I pounded my fists on the ground in rage. "@#$@!#@$#%!#$#^%$!$#@$%!" I sighed. Then I got up, and trudged back to my- er, our castle. I opened the main doors, and walked up the stairs. I walked into my daughter's bedroom, and saw her sleeping. I sat down on the edge of her bed and smiled as I rubbed her head. She reminded me of Peach. So beautiful. She was so innocent, sitting there. And I was jealous. I wanted to be her. Not a care in the world...
I was out again, when I came across a bar. I walked in, and plopped myself on a barstool. I sighed. "Hey, Al. I need the hard stuff. On the rocks."
He frowned. "Mario, you look down, man," the Mushroomer said. "Of course, I'd be pretty $#$% if my wife died. But dang, she was a looker." I shot him a dirty look. "Er... sorry." He took the spray, and filled my mug to the brim. I downed the beer in a couple of gulps. Then, I had another. Then another.
"Sho, anywhays...You know what rheely
@#@@#$ me off, ish, thoshe @$##%% Star Shpirits! *hic* I try to
*hic* get themm to revive my @%@#%@
whive buthe they *hic* whouldnt!" *hic* I fell off my barstool. Yup. I
was drunk.
All of a sudden a young Koopa girl who looked in her twenties walked in. All the other guys drooled and started whooping. "All right! All right! Pick your jaws up off the floor! What, were you raised in a barn?" Al turned towards the girl. "I appoligise, Miss, for these bunch of morons. They don't know any better." He kissed her hand. She smiled.
"That's okay. I'm used to it." She sat down next to me, and I got to take a closer look. Of course, I was probably looking for quite a while.
"*hic* Heyyyy, your a pherty lady." *hic* She had yellow skin, long black hair, and green eyes. She was wearing a pink midriff, and a cutoff bottom. She had a green purse around her shoulders, and a long tail.
She giggled. "You're funny. You're Super Mario, right?" I nodded my head drunkenly. "I heard about your wife, and I'm very sorry. Although, I've had my eye on you for a while. How would you like to go out some time?" she asked. I thought about it. Peach would've wanted me to go on with my life.
"Yes," I replied. She smiled. "We can come over my place, tomorow night, when the kids are sleeping. I'll make you dinner, and stuff..." I said.
"Okay, I'll see you tomorrow at 9:00," she said before walking away.
Chapter Four: Flashback
BOW
I sat on the dew-soaked grass, and looked up into the deep blue sky. Leaves gently floated to the ground, color changed and crisp. It was a beautiful day and the sun shone down on me. Next to me was Slimer, who had his arms behind his head and was quite annoyed. "He's been in there for hours! How long are they going to makeout? Geez."
I hit him and gave him a dirty look. "That's his business."
Just then Mewtwo90 came out. He was smiling. "What took you so long?" Slimer asked.
"I believe that is what you Plitians call, pri-vate?"
Slimer grinned. "Oooh!"
I hit him again. "Stop it." I scowled.
"Ow." He rubbed his stomach. "Why do you always have to hit me?" Slimer asked irritably.
"Because you are a chauvenist pig."
We got up, and prepared to leave, and all of a sudden everything started blurring. The environment was fading fast. I was dizzy, and nautious. Then, I fell to the ground and blacked out.
Slowly, I opened my eyes. Above me I saw the giant red sun in the sky. It beat down on my head, and sweat heavily. This wasn't right. It was winter! Why would it be so hot? Then I leapt into the air, and looked below me, seeing scorching sand. I looked around, and saw barrenness. Cacti. Sand. Blistering heat. I was in a desert. But, how did I get here? Where was here? When was here? What was going on?
I was so confused. There were so many questions to be asked, so many hidden truths. I found that I was starving, and also parched. I looked out into the distance and saw a large drinking hole. Yes! I ran foward towards the life-saving pool of water, only to realize too late that it was only a mirage. Not only that, but I was staring into the face of a giant, bloodthirsty Cobrat. Its diamond-like scales glinted in the sunlight. Its long, forked tongue flicked in and out, tasting the air. Its giant, slitted eyes locked on me, and the beast growled. It shot forward, smashing into the ground, kicking up a bunch of sand and making me cough. I wiped my eyes and looked for it. It had disappeared, but a second later it popped up from underneath me and sent me flying back.
I hit the ground hard and growled. "You're not going to take me down, you overgrown- ARGH!!!" It whipped forward, faster then lightning, and biting into my body. Blood sprayed onto the ground and I watched as the creature circled around again. "@#$%^&*. $%^$$$^ you!" I stabbed it in the head, and watched as it writhed and slowly died. I breathed deeply. Then I heard a rumbling sound, that was my stomach. I looked at the dead beast and sighed. In a couple of seconds, I was roasting Cobrat hide on an open fire. I ravenously carved a chunk of flesh off and chewed it down. It tasted disgusting. But it was something.
Then I moved close to the fire and rubbed my hands together. I felt strangely cold in the hot desert. Then I looked behind me to see a huge city, with huts lined up in rows, and a large pyramid at the end. Villages meant civilization, and civilization means... water! Food! Electricity! I ran toward the city. Was it a mirage? Only one way to find out. When I reached the entrance, I looked at the people. They were Boos. Some were merchants selling strange, foreign jewelry, there were mothers holding babies in their fins, with children at their sides. The children had dirty, soot-stained faces, and they smelled quite bad. Their clothes were tattered and torn, and they shivered from what seemed like not cold, but fear.
I stared into their eyes and saw pure horror. Their pupils were wide and emotionless. What could theese tortured souls have gone through? "Do you need any help?" I asked. I leaned forward, but gasped when my hand went right through them. I couldn't touch them. They couldn't see me. I was like a ghost. But then, why could I fight that giant Cobrat? I moved on, only looking back once in pity for the family of Boos. Before me, I saw a giant pyramid with two powerful-looking guards in front of it. To my relief, they could not see, touch, or hear me, so I walked right through them. It felt a bit horrifying to walk through someone. I had possessed people before, but this was different. It felt so inhuman... Well, technically I am a Boo, but you get the picture.
I continued watching, until I saw an open clearing in the middle of the pyramid. A young Boo, probably in her 20's, sat on a throne. She had icy blue demonic eyes, and purple hair. Upon her head rested an embroidered crown that had diamonds resting on it, and it was made of red satin. She grinned, showing off her sharp, demonic fangs. Below were a bunch of muscualar Boos that had chains around their tails. They were sweating profusely, and moving heavy blocks. One Boo collapsed and the female Boo floated down to him. "Is there a problem?" she asked.
"Please... *cough...* Can I have a break... *cough...* and some... water?" he asked.
She grinned, and pulled out a small dagger. "You want a break? How about I break your skull!" The Boo drove the dagger down into the head of the worker.
Blood spurted everywhere, and the Boo fell to the ground dead. The female laughed maliciously. She raised the dagger to her mouth and outstreched her long tongue. She lapped at the blood, tasting it. I covered my mouth. I felt sick. "ANYONE ELSE WANT A BREAK?!" When no one answered, she grinned. "Thought so." Then she returned to her throne. I turned around to leave.
I was walking in the halls, trying to answer all the questions running through my head. Who was this horrible witch? I heard her voice from another room and I hovered over to get a closer look. I peeked my head in and saw the demon Boo lying on the bed. She had an assistant that had a mustache and a top hat. The girl laughed. "Those fools have no Idea what lies in store for them..."
The mustachioed Boo nodded. "Yes, Queen
Alexandria, your plan is working perfectly. They don't realize a
thing."
I watched as she stripped down and lowered herself into a hot bath. "Of course it's working. Why wouldn't it?" She suddenly tensed.
"What is wrong, Your Majesty?" the servant asked.
I don't know. I sense... another presence. Like someone's watching us," she said.
"Is it one of the soldiers eavesdropping, do you think?" he asked.
"No, it feels like it is from inside the room."
"But... there is no one here," he said. I gulped. Could she see me? All of a sudden I felt the strange dizzy, nautious feeling I felt before, and I blacked out...
I opened my eyes and saw Slimer and Mewtwo90 staring at me. "She's waking up!" I moaned. "Are you okay?" Slimer asked.
"Yeah, I guess I just dozed off." I said, but I wasn't so sure. Slimer stared hard at me. "Okay." I sighed. I thought I was done with that horrific nightmare. I was wrong.
Chapter Five: Demonic Dreams
WARIO
I was running. I had no Idea for how long, but I was running. I kept on running, and never looked back. I was running through dark and dysmal streets, and could hear the sound of my feet colliding with the pavement. The sky was a dark red, and the houses were empty. Wails of dead souls rose from graves and tried to slow me down. I looked behind me to find the creature was gaining on me. It wore a long dark hood, and was completely robed. "Gah! What do you want from me?" I asked. The faceless thing just motioned towards me, and a breath of ice resonated from inside the dark hood. It leapt upon me and pinned me to the ground. "WHO ARE YOU?" I screamed in frustration. I shot my hands up and pulled off the hood.
Underneath was me! My own face staring back at me. Then it laughed. It laughed its hideous evil laugh. It grabbed me by the neck and pulled me close. "Isn't it obvious? I'M YOU!!!"
"AAAAAGH!!!" I woke up screaming. I looked around to see my own bed. "#$#$."
This was the fifth time this week I had dreamt about the hooded horror of my nightmares. My brother Waluigi came into the room. "Wario! Are you okay?" he asked.
"Yeah, knucklehead, I'm fine."
"Was it the dream again?" I nodded.
My brother retreated into the other room, and came back out with a glass of water. I took it from him, then gulped it down. "Bah, I need to get out and clear my mind. Want to come?" I asked.
My brother nodded, and we left our house. We walked outside, onto the dismal streets of Toad Town and started to walk.
It is never the same the way you look at a winter day. It is always bleak, cold, and relentless, sure, but there is more to it to that. On this winter day, shivers went up and down my spine, and it wasn't simply because of the cold. So we walked. We walked past the post office. Past the Dojo. And what I didn't notice was that the air was getting quite thick around us. It was turning into a misty fog that choked us off.
"WALUIGI!"
"YEAH?"
"WHERE ARE YOU? I CAN'T SEE YOU IN THIS FOG!" I shouted. Then, in the confusion, I found his hand, and took it. The fog was getting thicker... I couldn't breathe. Then, it began to clear. And in the gloom, I saw a faint light. As I approached it, I saw whatever it was.
It was a humongous structure. It looked like a castle, but it wasn't Peach's or Bowser's, so it was a total mystery. The castle glowed dark purple, and it had long, twisted, spike towers on top of it. Large stain glass windows decorated the entire structure, and there was a moat of green liquid that I didn't know nor want to know what it was. A huge drawbridge fell down where we were standing, as though to welcome us in, although I didn't feel very welcomed. I shrugged and gingerly stepped inside. Not wanting to be left outside, Waluigi followed me into the castle.
I saw large statues of large, robed creatures on the wall. Waluigi was resting on a door. "Man, I'm-a tired," he said.
"Er... Waluigi? Maybe we should leave..." I looked around, and Waluigi was gone.
~
WALUIGI
"WAAAH!!! WARIO!!! WHERE AM I?!" I pounded on the door, but it wouldn't budge. I took a deep breath, and looked around.
I was in a dark room, and there
were suits of armor all around me.
Some carried big, heavy axes, while some carried swords and others held
lances. I could see my breath. I hugged myself, because it was deathly
cold. I looked around, until I saw an old photograph. There was a boy who
was sitting with his sister outside. They were smiling, and their mother
was next to them. I looked at the date on the back: 1789. "Wow. That's
old," I muttered. I put it down, and continued to look for a way out.
I felt the cold stone walls, but all I felt was cobwebs. I sighed. Then, a wall fell forward, and I tumbled into it. It was much darker in this room, except for a small dim glow. On further inspection, I realized that there was a block that was slightly loose. I pulled and tugged on it, and then it came out. There was a long narrow passageway that was opened, and it had to be better than where I was, right? So I crawled down into the path.
~
WARIO
I stared around, seeing the large ceiling, and coughing through the dust in the place. I couldn't find Waluigi anywhere. I kept searching, until I found a whole other room. By the time I got there, I realized that I was hungry. And in front of me was food! I rushed over to it, forgetting my unfortunate brother Waluigi. I sat down, and tied a napkin around my neck. I picked up a fork and knife, and looked at my choices. There was a large turkey, a hotdog, and a plate of... PASTA!!! I dug right in, devouring it slowly. I felt a rumbling, and I stopped eating. The ground rumbled, and the turkey started to MOVE. It grew long, sharp talons and claws, and sprouted wings and a tail. The beast growled at me. "MAMAMIA!!!" I shouted, startled. The pasta turned into a long, twisting serpent, and the hotdog turned into a ferocious Hotdog Pokey.
I looked in disgust and pity at the abominations before me. "YOU WANNA PIECE OF-A WARIO?" The humongous dinner meal ran forward and swiped a claw at my head. I ducked, and barreled into the creature, which sent it flying into the wall. I ran over and punched it, then picked it up and started swinging it around. "Mario-a might-a sue me for-a this, but who cares? HAVE A ROTTEN DAY!!!" I threw the creature several yards before it imploded. The pasta serpent wrapped around my leg and threw me. Then it slithered over and compressed me. Out of my pocket I slowly pulled a garlic head. I ate it, and turned into Wario Man! My cape flowing behind me, I piledrived the poor pasta into the ground, where it lay, crushed.
The Pokey-Dog came over and smashed into the ground with its head right next to me. I backflipped and grabbed the Pokey-Dog's head. Then I threw it into the other segments before stepping on the head. "WAHAHAHAHAHA!!! TAKE THAT, SUPER NOOBS!!!" I shouted in victory. I moved over to the now totally dead turkey and bit it. "Hmn... Needs salt."
~
WALUIGI
I crawled along the narrow passageway, brushing dust out of my way as I went. "Man, bet Mario doesn't have to do this." The passageway finally opened up to the point when I could walk. I realized where I was then: a dungeon. I shuddered. "Just don't look, just don't look, just don't loo..." I stopped when a skeleton fell on me. I screamed. "Get it off, get it off!" When I finally realized who my "attacker" was, I felt silly. I continued on, seeing more of the grisly corpses.
I breathed deeply. "They're just dead, they're just dead, they're just dead!" Then, I got cold again, and I could see my breath. I turned around and saw a specter staring at me. My face turned pale. "AAAAAAAH!!!"
~
WARIO
"AAAAAAH!!!" I heard my brother scream, and ran towards the sound of his voice. I panicked. What could have happened to him? He could just be jumping at a spider, for my brother is not the bravest. Or he could be in trouble.
"HOLD ON-A, BRO!" I shouted. I ran as fast as my stubby legs could take me, and wound up running headfirst into him. I fell over backwards, then shook my head. "What's the matter?" I asked.
"G-g-g-ghost!"
I sighed. "Here ya go." I tried to pull a spear out of a holder but the ground shook. "Wha?" I asked. Out of the lava came a large, black-armored knight riding a horse.
The creature spoke in a dry, raspy voice. "Whyy havve youu comme....?" it asked.
"Er, accidental?" I said.
"Foolsss!!! Youu will facsse the wratthe off the Ssssinister Knighttt!!!" It brought out a long, dark lance with a spike at the end. The black horse galloped foward in the air towards us.
I ducked. "WAH! IF YOU WANNA TAKE US OUT, YOU'LL NEED TO FIGHT US FIRST!!!" I headbutt into the horse's stomach as it was coming back, which knocked the knight off his steed.
"Youu darre deefy meee?" it hissed. It swung the heavy lance at me, hitting me in the head and bloodying my forehead.
I growled. I had used my last peice of garlic fighting the demon turkey. I had no secret weapons hidden in my pocket. I tried to trip him, but he picked up my leg and twisted until it broke. "AAAAAAAGH!!!" I screamed in agony.
Waluigi ran in front of me. "You-you leave my big brother alone, you meanie!" He pulled out a bomb and threw it. He grabbed me and ran. We ran out the exit, and to the next block. Only then did we turn around just in time to see the castle blow up.
Parakarry came over, smiling. "Parcel for Wario!"
I grabbed it out of the Parakoopa's hands. "Gimme that!" I opened it and started reading. "Hmn... hmn... mnnn... ohh... oh!!! ... OOHH!!! ... WOOT! Walugi! We're invited to a gameshow! And the prize is 60,000,000 gold coins!"
Waluigi grinned. "MONEY! Ooh, but shouldn't we get you to the hospital first?" he asked.
"Okey dokie," I said.
We went off laughing, leaving an angry Parakarry behind. Up in a nearby tree, someone was watching us.
"That's right, fat man, keep laughing. Keep laughing. Heh heh heh heh..."
