(The curtain rises on Water Land and the title is shown.)

(One day at Toad's house, Mario opens a book on the coffee table and starts to read it.)

Luigi: Mario, what're you reading?

Mario: This book of Toad's talks about a pirate ship that sank in the Mushroom Sea centuries ago!

(Princess runs in, looking depressed.)

Toad: What's wrong, Princess?

Princess: I just talked to the Mushroom treasurer! He said we're spending too much money on repairs from Koopa's attacks! And I don't know where we can get more money!

Mario: Hey, it says that the ship sank with its treasure still on it! Apparently, no one has gone after it yet! We can go retrieve it!

Princess: Great! Good luck, you guys! Toad and I have to stay behind and do paperwork.

(Mario and Luigi, in Frog Suits, come out of a warp pipe underwater.)

Mario: Alright, we're here! Now, I think that the treasure's over in that direction. Let's go!

(They swim off.)

Blooper: It's the Mario Bros.! I'd better warn King Koopa!

(Cut to Castle Koopa. A Koopa Troopa runs up to Koopa, who is sitting on his throne.)

Troopa: Your royal wretchedness, the Mario Bros. are entering Koopa territory! They're in the Mushroom Sea!

Koopa: An underwater attack? They may be clever, but they'll never outsmart me!

Luigi: Mario! How much further?

Mario: I think it's down that trench!

(They start to swim down the trench.)

Luigi: Yeesh, it's getting dark! No wait, it's light again!

Mario: That's not light! That Lava Lotus is after us!

(They manage to escape the fireballs and the Lava Lotus.)

Luigi: Watch out for the Jelectros!

(They swim under the cluster of Jelectos, only to appoach a Boss Bass.)

Luigi: Any ideas?

Mario: I got it!

(Mario punches a Note Block and a Fire Flower pops out. He uses it to gain fire power, but sacrifices his Frog Suit. Mario shoots some fireballs at the Boss Bass.)

Luigi: Good thinking! That fire power will come in handy! And the fireballs are a good light source! Hey, Mario, it's getting too bright, tone it down a bit!

Mario: But I'm not shooting anything!

Luigi: It's the doomsub!

Koopa (over the loudspeaker): Aha! I've found you! I'll teach you to trespass onto my land!

Kooky: King Dad! I'll catch them using my latest contraption, the Aqua-Claw!

(Kooky pulls a lever and a large mechanical hand extends from the doomsub and grabs the Marios. It pulls them back into the doomsub. Sledge Bros. grab them and they lose their power-ups. They are then brought to Koopa.)

Mario: What do you two think you're doing?

Koopa: I'm the one who should be asking you that question!

Luigi: Let us go!

(Mario looks out the window and sees the doomsub go past the sunken ship.)

Kooky: Ooh, is that why you're here? To explore that ship?

Luigi: How'd you know that?

Kooky: Because you just told me! Whoah, whoah!

Koopa: Hmm, now that we're here, let's check it out!

(A searchlight passes over the ship and stops on some glimmering treasure.)

Koopa: *laugh* Soon this'll all be mine!

Mario: Let us go, you overstuffed turtles!

Sledge Brother: You'll never get freed with that attitude, Mario!

Koopa: Kooky, I want you to use the Aqua-Claw to retrieve the treasure!

Kooky: You got it, pop!

(The claw grabs the treasure and brings it into the doomsub.)

Mario: You'll never get away with this, Koopa!

Koopa: Sledge Bros., release the Mario Bros.!

(As soon as they let go, Koopa snaps his fingers and Chain Chomps wrap themselves around the Marios.)

Koopa: Alright, now these Chain Chomp twins will get rid of those drain brains!

(Koopa pulls another lever and the floor opens up underneath the Marios. They fall into the water and start to sink.)

Koopa: I hope you can hold your breath for a long time! *laugh*

Mario: Luigi, we're done for!

Luigi: This is the end, Mario!

Koopa: Well, we got what we came for, plus we found some treasure!

Kooky: Let's go home and celebrate!

(The doomsub drives off.)

Mario: I've got an idea!

Luigi: I hope it works!

Mario: Hey, Mr. Chain Chomp, I bet you can't reach that block over there!

Chomp: What do you mean, can't?

Mario: Oh, I know you can't!

Chomp: I'll prove you wrong!

(The Chomp reaches out towards a block and slams into it. A Starman pops out.)

Chomp: I told you I can reach it! It's more than you'll ever reach!

Mario: More than this?

(Mario grabs the Starman and becomes invincible.)

Luigi: Alright, way to go!

Chomps: Oh no!

(Mario defeats the Chomps by punching them and swims off with Luigi as the Starman wears off.)

Luigi: Well, now we gotta find Koopa, and get that treasure back!

Mario: But how? We'll never catch up to him now!

Luigi: Well, I know a shortcut!

(Mario follows Luigi into a warp pipe.)

(They come out of another underwater warp pipe and surface in the water in front of Castle Koopa.)

Luigi: Mario, see those giant steel doors near the castle? That's where Koopa parks the doomsub!

Mario: Speaking of the doomsub, here it comes!

(The Marios get out of the doomsub's way, unnoticed. It stops in front of the doors and waits for them to open. As it does, the Marios grab onto the doomsub and ride it into the garage. Koopa, Kooky, and some Troopas get off the doomsub as the giant doors close.)

Kooky: Wait, King Dad! What about the treasure?

Koopa: We can leave it here. I've got nowhere else to store it.

(The Koopas leave the garage through a door.)

Mario: Alright, this couldn't be easier!

(The Marios board the doomsub and start up the engine.)

Luigi: Mario! What about the doors?

(Mario pushes some buttons and the doomsub fires cannonballs at the doors, causing them to break open. An alarm goes off.)

Luigi: Quick! Let's get out of here now!

(Koopa and Kooky return to the garage.)

Koopa: Oh no! How'd they escape?

Kooky: Yeah! I calculated their chance of survival to be impossible!

Koopa: Nevermind that! We'll chase them down in the doomship! It's faster than the doomsub!

(Cut to the doomsub, which is sailing across the Mushroom Sea.)

Mario: Just a few more minutes, and we'll be home free!

(Luigi is looking through the periscope.)

Luigi: Oh no! They're hightailing us in the doomship!

Koopa: Sledge Bros.! Stop the Mario Bros.!

(The Sledge Bros. jump down from the doomship onto the doomsub, causing it to shake.)

Luigi: *gulp* I've gotta go up there, and teach those Koopa creeps a lesson!

(Luigi gets out through a hatch and is greeted by the Sledge Bros.)

Sledge Brother: How stupid are you?

(The Sledge Bros. throw the sledges at Luigi, who does what he can to dodge them. Bullet Bills are fired at the doomsub from the doomship. Mario is watching through the periscope.)

Mario: What am I gonna do? If I bring the doomsub underwater, they can still reach me!

Koopa: Give it up, plumbers!

(The song "The Doomsub" starts.)

It moves through the water with the greatest of ease
It will do whatever I please
It's the doomsub
It's better than a submarine
It comes well equipped
But can it survive an attack from the doomship?
It's the doomsub
It looks like monster
It purrs like a wildcat
It's ready for anything
But you probably knew that
It's the doomsub

(During the song, the doomsub tries to dodge the Bullet Bills, while Luigi tries to dodge the Sledge Bros. The song ends.)

Luigi: Mario! Move over to the right!

(Mario steers the doomsub over to the right and passes under some blocks. Luigi jumps up at them and manages to find a Super Leaf in one of them. He gets raccoon power and attacks the Sledge Bros. with his tail. They fall into the water.)

Luigi: That took care of them!

Koopa: Thanks, plumb scum! Now I don't have to worry about hitting my troopers!

(A barrage of Bullet Bills are fired at the side of the doomsub, causing water to leak in.)

Mario: Oh no!

(A Bullet Bill hits Luigi. He loses his raccoon power and falls into the water, He starts to sink.)

Mario: I've gotta save him! But how?

Luigi: Help! Mario! Use the Aqua-Claw!

Mario pulls the lever and has the Aqua-Claw bring Luigi into the doomsub.)

Mario: Hey, this Aqua-Claw gives me an idea!

(Mario makes the Aqua-Claw extend into the air and grabs the doomship. It twirls the doomship around and tosses it into oblivion.)

Koopa: Kooky! You won't get away with this, faucet face!

Luigi: Hurry, Mario! This thing's gonna sink if we don't get outta here! The water's up to my knees!

(A large thud is heard.)

Mario: Oh no! We must've crashed!

Luigi: Let's just get out of here while we still can!

(They get out through the hatch to see they've arrived at the harbor of the Mushroom Kingdom.)

Mario: Whew! We made it, Luigi!

Luigi: Come on! Let's go get some help!

(Princess, Toad, and some Mushroomers meet up with the Marios at the harbor. The treasure is being unloaded by some Mushroomers.)

Mario: Well, we did risk our lives, but we did it!

Luigi: Yeah, and look at all of this treasure! We won't have to worry about money for a long time!

Princess: Yeah, I was meaning to tell you about that. This old fellow here, is apparently the only living heir of the treasure.

Mario: You mean, we did all that for nothing?

Old Guy: Of course not! You've made me so happy!

Mario: But we went through all that trouble!

Luigi: And we don't even get to keep a single gold coin?

Mario: Maybe we should just stick to plumbing!

Luigi: Yeah, it's a lot safer too! And dryer!

(It starts to rain. The Marios groan as the curtain falls.)
