From Tony Paratroopa

Do the Marios usually eat the Mushrooms whole?

Every last bite.

From Adam Fripps

Would the void from Super Paper Mario have destroyed Earth as well?

Yes, you would all be gone, and I would have taken great pleasure in it for the few remaining moments while Plit still existed. (Assuming, of course, that Earth was closer.)

From Tony Paratroopa

Has Bowser ever used an ax against the Marios?

No, and why would he need to? If he could hit Mario, his own claws would be enough.

From Tony Paratroopa

In Mario World, Rexes could be killed by fireballs, but in Superstar Saga, they were immune to fire moves. Why is this?

Rexes are normally resistent to fire. The fireballs Mario can throw after finding a Fire Flower are so powerful that they were able to defeat them, and most other enemies, anyway. Only enemies that were completely immune to fire could stand up to them for more than a couple hits. The fire Mario could create in Superstar Saga using Bros. Points or his Firebrand ability wasn't in the same league as what he got from the Fire Flowers. As a result, he could not defeat most enemies in one hit, and Rexes were able to withstand the hits without much trouble.

From wintersoldier

Does Bowser own those coin ships in Mario 3?

Yes, which is why they were guarded by Bros. Ironically enough, the day of that attack just happened to be pay day, so the coins ships were out and about dispensing salaries. Mind you, each soldier in the Koopa army is paid next to nothing, but the army was so large that it still meant a large payout.

From P.T. Piranha

Is there any way for characters, not players, to leave the Minus World? Can they just swim up?

The so-called Minus World, as seen in Mario 1, is only a glitch and does not actually exist. It is also one of the many nicknames of the Underwhere, and both are also known as World -1. The Underwhere can only be left (apart from going to the Overthere) under very rare circumstances. The Minus World you speak of cannot really be entered or left, but speaking fictitiously, anyone that entered there would certainly drown before finding whatever way out might exist.

From P.T. Piranha

If Peach can fight and stuff in situations like in Super Princess Peach, Super Paper Mario, and Super Mario Bros. 2, how come she's so helpless when Bowser takes her?

Peach is no weakling. But neither is Bowser. There are very few who could stop him from carrying them off.

From Crazy Koopa

Why is the team of Wario and Toadette in Mario Party 6 named Secret Friends?

Could it be that Toadette isn't as sweet and innocent as she seems? Hm... I'd tell you, but that would ruin the Secret, wouldn't it? Nice observation, though.

From Rhinox

What are the IQ levels of the Koopalings?

We're a pretty clever bunch, you know. Stubborn, but clever. Most of us are at around 95, which is somewhat above average. Ludwig, of course, is higher, like 140, which is pretty darn smart but not, in fact, the supermegalogeniac of the universe or anything. You might be expecting me to say that Roy's IQ is lower, but in fact he's smarter than he lets on. He only pretends to be stupid. Sometimes he forgets and fools himself... but, you know... Oh, but Lemmy's an idiot, though. His IQ is like, 60. He's still a high-functioning idiot, of course.

From Superluigi55

How was Peach able to fit in that super small X-Naut suit in PM2? When she was inside that suit, she looked just like an X-Naut! She wasn't any bigger or anything! How is this possible?

Peach had had a lot of practice getting into tight dresses. So this wasn't that much of a stretch, or squeeze. for her.

From Superluigi55

Did Mario and his partners turning 8-bit in Paper Mario, Paper Mario 2, and Super Mario RPG really happen, or were they just put in the game just for fun?

Mario and the rest really did turn flat in Super Paper Mario, as I explained in a recent question. The other games were just the selected visual style.

From Superluigi55

What about Pal Pills from Super Paper Mario? Were they in Mario's mission, or were they just
invented by Nintendo?

They were really in the mission.

From Superluigi55

What about Mega Stars? They just really seem to break the fourth wall.

What? It's not like they pause the game and talk to you. Yes, they were there.

From Superluigi55

Does Plit have holidays that Earth doesn't?

Plit doesn't, but the countries on it do.

From Adam Fripps

What are Mario and Luigi's middle names?

They do not have one.

From Tony Paratroopa

Do Lemmy and Iggy share a room, or is everyone (except for Bowser and Clawdia) in separate rooms?

Lemmy and Iggy share a room in Bowser’s castle. They have separate rooms in their own castles.

From Tony Paratroopa

Since they're sort of linked, if anything happened to Earth, like it exploded, would Plit go with it?

Plit ought to be able to continue on, because Earth and Plit aren't mirror dimensions where similar things happen in both. I honestly couldn't tell you what would happen if you jumped in an interdimensional warp pipe after that, though.

From P.T. Piranha

If you get a Game Over in SPM after Chapter 7, why not just have Mario or whoever talk to Jaydes and let them out?

Although Jaydes has power over life, she is bound in good faith, in nearly all circumstances, to let the natural order run its course. Jaydes was able to let Mario out the first time because his game had not truly ended; Dimentio had somehow sent him there without defeating him. If Mario gets a Game Over, however, then his game really is over and he cannot be released.

From P.T. Piranha

Where were all the Koopa Strikers, Koopatrols, and stuff during the beginning of SPM?

They were there, but just regular Koopas and such at the time. After he escaped Bleck's castle with a ragtag army, Bowser promoted some of them. Back on the inside, some of the rest promoted themselves (or, rather, were instructed to use their best skills) after being brainwashed into joined Bleck.

From Paperlemmy

In Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, Luigi goes on his own little quest, right? His first partner is Blooey the Blooper, correct? Well, Blooey first says that he's only sticking around with Luigi so that he can pay him back for burning him in lava, but after Luigi's final battle, he gets even more burnt but doesn't seem to mind much. In fact, he actually laughs! It's as if he forgot his grudge with Luigi completely! What's up with that?

Hey, ya gotta let by-gones be by-gones, right? He gained some more respect after Luigi went through the whole adventure and emerged victorious. He had to admit that the whole ordeal wasn't really that bad. And, he was looking pretty slick, for a Blooper.

From Johnny Rex

Which Koopaling does Bowser dislike the most? And which Koopaling dislikes Bowser the most?

Who can really say who Bowser dislikes? He's not going to say. Most of the time he acts like he hates all of us, and then once in a while he loves us. Probably he likes Morton or Iggy the least just on the basis of being least useful to him. As for who dislikes him most, again, it's tough to say. I don't think any of us really dislike him so much as some of us may fear him. Ludwig and Roy probably most want him to die just so one of them could have a shot at becoming king. If I had to pick someone who dislikes him, it would be me. I'm sure he could give me more if he wanted to.

From Johnny Rex

What happened with the Pixls after the events of Super Paper Mario?

They stayed in Flipside with Merlon. Sure, they promised to help Mario if he comes for them, but how's he supposed to get back?

From Johnny Rex

Which sport is Mario's favorite?

Probably tennis, but he'll give different answers from time to time.

From Johnny Rex

Why does Mario always need a special item to be able to ground pound in the RPG games? Can't he do it fine in the platformers?

Well, in Mario 64 and NSMB, at least. He brought something with him, then. Mario isn't all that heavy, he doesn't have it in him to do the most powerful pounds unaided.

From Johnny Rex

Does Mario still have his "cursed" powers from Paper Mario 2? If so, why does he need to use Slim to be able to become thin in Super Paper Mario?

Mario eventually had his curses taken from him when those four spirits got together and realized they weren't actually so bad.

From Tony Paratroopa

When did Luigi learn to build robots?

Luigi started tinkering back in Brooklyn when Mario often would go out on jobs without him. Even then, Luigi was Player Two. He doesn't do it so much now, but he did build the boat seen in Mario Party.

From Tony Paratroopa

Do Lemmy and Iggy have a bunk bed or separate beds?

Comically enough, it's a bunk bed.

From Tony Paratroopa

Are Hooktail and Gloomtail still alive?

Yes. Hooktail doesn’t eat the neighboring Koopas anymore, though.

From Dr. Shriod

How does Bowser feel about us Shroobs?

I don’t think he knows about them, really.

From Dr. Shriod

In PiT, was the Koopa Kingdom under Shroob control?

There wasn't much of a kingdom at the time.

From Dr. Shriod

How was Elder Princess Shroob able to speak English?

She picked it up while trapped in the Cobalt Star. Having the equivilent of six pairs of ears really sped up the process.

From Tony Paratroopa

Are Eeries spirits that come out of Yoshis?

They do look like Yoshis, so well said, but that's only the form they take. No, kind-hearted Yoshis do not become evil spooks from beyond the grave.

From P.T. Piranha

Considering their circus/clown themes, could Lemmy and Dimentio possibly get along?

I don’t think they would be a good match. Lemmy likes Dimentio from afar, but Dimentio is much more evil than Lemmy and probably wouldn’t be interested in the company of him or anyone else. If Dimentio were going to be a match for someone, it would probably be Fawful, with all those weird expressions. Lemmy likes to too, but in moderation.  After a while, it would be enough.

From Tony Paratroopa.

How come ghosts and Boos get sucked into vacuum cleaners?

They’re not much heavier or denser than air. Even so, they still won’t get caught by a regular vacuum. Gadd’s device is designed to catch them.

From Dr Shriod.

I heard that the Crystal King is a Duplighost. Is this true?

No. He’s easily associated with them because there are Duplighosts in and around his palance, and he was impersonated by some during the parade. However, he is not a Duplighost himself. The fake Crystal Kings that appear in the battle with him were mirages or phantoms created by magic, so there were no Duplighosts there either.

From Tony Paratroopa

How come Boos freeze when being watched, since they’re not shy?

Some do really prefer not to be seen, sort of a separation between the living and dead thing. Aside from that, as ghosts that are only semi-solid, they can become invisible and transparent by not moving. The player will see them, but in reality, Mario cannot when they are hiding like that. He can’t usually touch them, either, but can still be hurt by their evil aura if he goes too close. He still will be able to defeat them if he’s invincible.

From Tony Paratroopa

Are all Yoshis good or are there any bad ones?

I don't think there are any planning world domination, but they're not all cute and cuddly. Boshi, of course, is an example.

From Toadette

What would have happened if you weren't taught to be bad by Bowser? Would you have befriended the Marios?

I didn’t have to be taught to be bad, first of all, as if I was going to be an angel if not for my lineage. And second of all, I would never be friends with the Marios because they’re complete idiots.

From Dr Shriod

What's the usual punishment for losing to Mario?

There isn't always even a punishment, as though losing to him isn't punishment enough. Only when Bowser really invested a lot into it would we get punished. If it's just one of us out on our own, we probably wouldn't get punished.

From Dr Shriod

Has there ever been a King or Queen Paratroopa?

It's happened, but not often. All a Paratroopa would have to do is lose his wings, and he'd be disgraced. There's an unusual dichotomy in that soldiers often strive to become Paratroopas, yet among Koopa-kind, Paratroopas are not especially well respected.

From P.T. Piranha

Did Count Bleck always look the way he does? Because in the end with Tippi in their true forms, he looked essentially the same.

Well, you never really get a great look at him, considering his cloak and all. His body never changed like Tippi's did, but he didn't used to dress like that. So I guess you could say he changed.

From Luther Koopa

Has Bowser ever thought of what to do after controlling the Mushroom Kingdom and beating the Mario Bros?

Has Bowser ever thought of anything? Honestly, I don't think he cares about that. It would be a part of his empire, he would rule it like he does the rest, probably relish giving the Toads a hard time, and then pick out his next entertaining target.

From Ultimate Yoshi

In Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, how did the X-Naut Fortress come back after you beat the
game? I thought it exploded?

Actually, the explosion was only a lightshow. Grodus didn't want to ever destroy his base, but at least the threat of an explosion would scare intruders away. While there was no explosion, this did temporarily shut down all electronic systems, so once the intruder got out, he wouldn't be able to get back in; or if he remained inside, he'd be trapped. This is why Mario could not return after using the teleporter.

From Dr Shriod

Does Geno still visit Mario, Peach, and Mallow?

Geno does not usually come down from Star Road, and when he does, he's not necessarily in the form of that doll. But yes, they have met again.

From Tony Paratroopa

In Paper Mario 2, when the dragons were defeated, they disappeared. Where did they go?

Mostly Nintendo just removed them so that their corpses would not be tastelessly lying around all game. They all lived, though. Bonetail is still in the Pit, Gloomtail plays maid in the Palace of Shadow for no one in particular, and Hooktail works at McKoopas, where she is definitely not allowed to eat any of the food or customers.

From Tony Paratroopa

Do dead Koopas become Dry Bones by Magikoopas' spells, or does it happen automatically?

Neither, really. It's not Magikoopas, and not all Koopas become Dry Bones, so I wouldn't call it automatic. No one has a proven explanation for this. Of course you have theories like they're Koopas with unfinished business, but no one knows for sure.

From Tony Paratroopa

How did Bonetail become bones, and what was his name before that?

Bonetail was always bones, and that was always his name.

From Tony Paratroopa

Can Bonetail talk? All I know is that he says "AAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"

No, he cannot.

From Tony Paratroopa

In Paper Mario 2, Hooktail and Gloomtail wrote letters to each other. How did they write letters and who delivered them? So many questions unanswered.

Yeah, those idiots may have been smart enough to scratch out a letter - maybe - but no one was delivering through the sealed Palace of Shadows. I don't know what made Gloomtail think letters were getting delivered, but he wasn't going to hear from Hooktail regardless.

From Tony Paratroopa

Can Blizzaurus talk?

Talk, no, but communicate, sure.

From Ultimate Yoshi

When Koopas die and become the living dead, is it possible for them to become Boos or can they only become Dry Bones?

Now, it's not as though I have a complete list of what Koopas can turn into when they die. But yes, some Boos claim to have been Koopas, if you care to believe them.

From Tony Paratroopa

Can most Goombas survive being hit by just one jump attack?

Your typical Goomba plus Mario's feet equals a dead typical Goomba.

From Tony Paratroopa

What were the Gloombas and Hyper Goombas before the mutation?

They have the same origin: Mushroomers.

From Tony Paratroopa

Can Gloombas and Hyper Goombas survive Mario's feet for one shot?

Normally, no. Their bites might be more powerful or toxic, but they're still just as squishy.

From P.T. Piranha

Where did Luigi get the Mr. L threads when he was hypnotized?

Nowhere. That's what makes them evil.

Did the blue Koopas from Super Mario World have control over their shells like Shell Mario?

No, they were not able to slide around like that. Really, it seems that just having a shell is all Mario needed in order to do that. It wasn't significant that the shell was blue.

From Dr Shriod

How on Plit did Welderburg bulid a warp pipe between 2 DIMENSIONS?!

Flipside and Flopside aren't in different dimensions, they're built adjacent to and opposite of one another.

From Tony Paratroopa

How come Parakarry can't lose his wings?

A mailkoopa without wings is pretty useless (even if it's already Parakarry...), so the post office supplied him a sturdier shell that won't break down. Bowser could do this, too, but no way he's going to splurge for each Paratroopa in his army. He tends to believe if you get stomped once you're a hopeless case anyway.

From P.T. Piranha

Are Shroom Shakes kind of like milkshakes?

Eh... It's liquid... but that's about as similar as it gets.  They're made very differently and the taste... ugh.

From P.T. Piranha

What do you call a person who hails from Plit? Plitian? Plitling? What?

Well, we didn't really call them anything. It's not like you go around calling your neighbors Earthlings, even if it is in the vocabulary. To answer your question, Plitling is correct.

From Adam

What was the main reason you guys' plan to takeover the Mushroom Kingdom failed in SMB3? After all, it seemed that you used your greatest weapon devices and had a large army, not to mention that you stole those magical wands. It would seem that all of that would have done the job and prevented the Marios from succeeding.

A lot of people will say it's because we members of the Koopa family fought Mario separately. If we had fought Mario together, they say, instead of hiding at the end of each world, then we would have won. Maybe, but there's no way to tell for sure. The way Mario got through everything else, there's no telling if this would have stopped him. Analysts have been over this again and again, and none have come up with an obviously fatal flaw apart from the fact that, of course, no one was able to land that finishing blow. It is because we have not been able to identify a specific problem, other than that this didn't work, that we have tended to avoid all-out, technology-infused conquests since.

From gray koopa

Was Bowser born or hatched?

Technically neither. He would have been hatched, but Morton Sr. had Kamek shoot the egg open early because he didn't want Bowser to go soft by having things be nice and easy.

From P.T. Piranha

Was the fact that the Cobalt Star Shards created Time Holes linked to the fact that Elder Princess Shroob could make time holes, since she was inside the Star?

Actually, the Cobalt Star had nothing to do with the Time Holes. Nature doesn't like things to be out of their time, and was breaking down or trying to correct things, depending on how you want to think of it. The Time Holes disappeared once normality was restored.

From Superjeff64

Which Koopaling is most likely to betray Bowser or team up with Mario?

I don't see anyone teaming up with Mario, but Roy would probably be the quickest to betray Bowser because he's ruthless and rockheaded. Ludwig would do it if he thought he wasn't getting the throne.

From Superjeff64

Can Mario and that green guy say anything in Italian other than mamamia?

They claim to be fluent, yes.

From Lord Shyguy

Do all of the Koopalings have middle names or just Wendy?

Only I have a real middle name. (I'm not sure what von counts as, exactly.) Bowser uses our nicknames like middle names.

From NitroNinja

Why do you kidnap Princess Peach all the time?

Most of the times it's because Bowser orders us to. Bowser does it because he's got it in his head that this is the only way to conquer the Mushroom Kingdom. And yeah, he probably likes her, blah blah blah. Other times we also agree it's the best way to get what we want. Then there are those we really just do it for kicks...

From Tony Paratroopa

How tall are the Marios?

I have already identified Mario as being about five-two normally.  Luigi is usually about five-eight.

From P.T. Piranha

So judging by what Luigi says in the beginning of Super Paper Mario, Mushroom Castle is the true name of Peach's Castle, and Peach's Castle is just what it's referred to?

I think that's not a question, but yes, you are right. The official name is Mushroom Castle, just as Luigi said. But, that doesn't change the fact that nearly everyone calls it Peach's Castle or some variation. Even when Luigi said it, he prefaced the name by suggesting they go to "Peach's place", so people really do expect you to throw her name in there somewhere.

From P.T. Piranha

Boshi appears to have claws on his feet, so does this mean all Yoshis have claws on their feet, but they're just hidden by the shoes?

Yes, Yoshis do have claws on their feet, though it's usually considered inappropriate to show them, let alone use them. Boshi, of course, doesn't care about such things.

From someone else

In the Beanbean Kingdom, how come there are very few Koopas when Hoohoo Mountain is packed with Dry Bones?

Not many Koopas live in the Beanbean Kingdom now, but there are many who died there back when the Koopa Kingdom tried to invade one time.

From Mariomaster5

Who's the most outgoing of the Koopalings? Part of me says that Morton may be, because of he always has something to say. In contrast, who's the quietest Koopaling?

I'm not entirely certain what outgoing means, but I think of it as meaning friendly, with a concern for other people. In that context, Morton would not be the most outgoing. While he loves to talk, and likes it best when he has someone to talk to, he doesn't particularly care about the well-being or happiness of that person. If only because he is so dense, Morton is very self-centered. Lemmy probably is the most outgoing. Larry or Ludwig would be the quitest, Larry because he likes to sneak around and Ludwig because if you can't speak with him intelligently about inventing or composing, he probably doesn't want to hear from you.

From P.T. Piranha

Did Mario ever see Tippi again after she married Bleck?

If not even death can keep a headlining character down, what chance does simply going to another dimension have? Yes, Tippi and Bleck have been spotted. They've mainly been keeping to themselves, but only time will tell when one of them decides to do something crazy.

From Jukilum

Why is it that Bowser is always a different size?

Bowser's size mostly closely approximates that of Mario 64, but Nintendo has messed with it a lot as systems allowed. Earlier games called for a smaller Bowser. Some of the recent games have a larger Bowser, because large bosses are cool, I guess. In games like Mario Kart Bowser was depicted smaller to keep the gameplay consistent. In reality, Bowser's size has remained the same except for special instances like when he was made large at the end of Paper Mario.

From Jukilum

Why does Bowser put buttons that dump him into the lava behind him while fighting Mario?

Bowser will claim to have reasons for it, such as a trump card if the Marios are being too feisty for him to fry. But then he never thinks that they are going to jump over him. And he never actually resorts to it when Mario comes at him with firepower. He'd probably say he still thought he could win. I guess the real reason is anyone's guess. It's not a very well thought out one, in any case.

From Jukilum

Do the Koopalings have any "friends"?

Yes. We don't spend our entire lives inside the castle, after all. Of course we spend a lot of time making mischief, and we have our own tutors. But, there is time for friends, who are typically children of other respected Koopas. Bowser more or less has to approve each of them, and it's certainly rare that these friends are not Koopas or other allied and powerful species. If he approves, Bowser then will tend to put up with, but also ignore, these friends, so they wouldn't typically be included in one of our schemes except possibly as a part of the army.

From P.T. Piranha

How did E. Gadd find the Cobalt Star?

He built it, actually, by melding that very metal in a certain way. It was intended to be a compact fuel source and not much else.

From P.T. Piranha

In the scenario where Junior is an eighth Koopaling, which Koopaling would you say is the most/least of a threat to the Mushroom  Kingdom?

This question is almost useless because it disregards the facts that each Koopaling is drawing on the same army, the same supplies, and would probably (willingly or not) be helping each other. It seems pointless to single out one as being the most dangerous, as though the Mushroom Kingdom could simply disregard the rest. That said, I guess I would pick Ludwig as the most dangerous. With his inventions and schemes, he's the one most likely to go it solo with a plan more coherent than "Go in with fists a-flyin." Iggy and Morton would probably be the least threats simply because they don't care too attack that often. Morton might end up on the bottom because he does tend to be distractable.

From P.T. Piranha

How come the Toad Brigade's ship sometimes has gravity on all sides, but other times you can only stand on the top?

It depends on whether the ship’s gravity is stronger than the gravity of what’s around it.

From P.T. Piranha

Where do all the other colored Toad Brigade ships come from?

They all were created by the Lumas in the garage, even though you only see one.

From P.T. Piranha

Did Super Luigi Galaxy really happen?

No.  And definitely not the part where he rescued himself.

From doopliss' twin

Okay, from the Johnny Rex question about Mario's "cursed" powers, nearly everyone with an IQ higher than a dish sponge has figured out that the spirits in the chests were the original heroes that beat the Shadow Queen. Now following that statement, here is my question. If they were the original heroes, what did they do to keep themselves alive for over 1,000 years? Did they use magic to turn themselves into those freaky things or did they take the "real" treasure from the Palace of Shadow to make themselves eternal? And my final question Is about the "REAL" treasure of the Palace of Shadow. Was it really a Mushroom or that item of ultimate power I mentioned?

Remaining alive was part of the curse of being trapped in the chest... and I'd say it drove them insane. There was no treasure of the Palance of Shadow. That was made up by Beldam to get people interested in, and looking for, the Crystal Stars.

From Tony Paratroopa

Is it true that Koopas have four fingers, but three toes? Like Bowser.

Good catch. Yes, that's true, even if Nintendo doesn't have a perfect track record on this.

From P.T. Piranha

Why did the Destructors and Wings of Night leave the Glitzpit when the missing fighters returned?

Only 20 fighters allowed - Glitz Pit rules.

From P.T. Piranha

Can you send mail with a Mailbox SP?

Yes, but TEC didn't have a valid return address for Mario to be able to send something back.

From P.T. Piranha

How did the fighters react when/if they learned about what Grubba did?

Actually it was kept quiet, they told everyone that Grubba needed to leave because of an emergency. Of course rumors abounded.

From P.T. Piranha

If Flavio is the second-richest man in Rogueport, is that one Koopa the first-richest?

Yes.

From Shrugger Shroob

Why do all of the Mario 3 land names end with the word "Land"? It seems kind of boring that the main parts of the Mushroom Kingdom are all called "insert type of terrain here" Land!

I guess their founders were really unoriginal. Actually, those names are nicknames; or not even that, but rather obvious and popular. The real names can be seen in remakes such as Mario All-Stars. Lemmy prefers for tourists to use the nicknames, and he'll appreciate my not listing all the real names (though you could certainly look them up), but I'll tell you that Desert Land is actually the Desert Kingdom, while Water Land is known simply as Seaside.

From Tony Paratroopa

Are the Toad Brigade members really kids or are they adults?

They're adults, but that doesn't mean you have to treat them as though they are.

From Captain Obvious

Why is it that in Super Paper Mario, Mario and Co. needed a fishbowl to survive in space, but in Galaxy they could walk around in space without any equipment?

When they were in the depths of space, there was no atmosphere, no air.  The locations in Galaxy each had an atmosphere, including (inexplicably enough) the areas made up of small chunks.  I guess they also had small chunks of atmosphere.

From Captain Obvious

Is the green Yoshi that appeared in Yoshi's Island The Yoshi?

Yes.

From Captain Obvious

Is Luigi's trademark element electricity? It seems this way seeing as how Luigi called himself "The Green Thunder" when he was Mr. L as well as how Luigi did a few thunder tricks in Strikers.

Luigi mainly has the same abilities as Mario, which would essentially make his trademark element fire.  But he does have a knack for somehow being around green things, including green fireballs, at times.  And he does have some relationship with electricity; he happened to gain the Thunderhand ability in Superstar Saga.  On the whole, I’d say Luigi is best associated with fire, but he is more associated with electricity than Mario is, and he’ll sometimes use that as a way to stand out.

From Tony Paratroopa

How do Yoshis keep themselves warm in cold places?

They don't very well, which is why they're usually in warm places.

From Tony Paratroopa

Can some Yoshis speak complete English and not in third-person?

Technically yes, but few do.

From Tony Paratroopa

Can some yoshis have wings without being powered up by shells and wings?

No, Yoshis don't come standard with wings.

From Tony Paratroopa

Does Morton talk in his sleep?

No, he does not actually talk in his sleep. But he does snore very loudly.

From Tony Paratroopa

Is it true that Yoshis, like Koopas, have 4 fingers and 3 toes as well?

Yes, that does happen to be the case.

From Tony Paratroopa

How does Yoshi do his flutter jump?

He kicks his legs fast enough to propel himself upwards, but he only has the strength to do this for a short time.

From Dr Shriod

Lumas like Star Bits; do Stars like Geno like Star Bits?

Lumas are, in fact, a kind of star. Some of them become real stars. But they're very different from the kind of stars that inhabit Star Road or Star Haven... and I do not think Geno likes Star Bits.

From Tony Paratroopa

How do you enter a warp pipe if you don't fall in it?

You have to exert some pressure in the direction of the pipe's opening. It's not a lot of pressure, but if you just walk normally over it you won't fall through.

From Tony Paratroopa

Are warp pipes connected or do you really warp?

Some warp pipes are connected, in which case they're really just regular pipes. Others are true warps that can take you great distances.

From Tony Paratroopa

Is it dark when your in a warp pipe?

From the outside, yes. From the inside, you wouldn't know. The warp takes place nearly instantaneously. For what little time you're actually in there, you're in a suspended state of animation. So, it doesn't look or feel like anything, despite the stories that discuss someone's first warp and how it feels. It makes for good fiction, but it doesn't really feel like anything, though suddenly re-emerging somewhere else for your first time certainly can be disorienting.

Why does Mario sink when he swims in 2D games, but floats when he swims in 3D games?

Jolly Roger Lagoon was so boring- not like where we used to set up camp underwater. Those were dangerous waters, with currents that would drag down even a competent swimmer. The games only would show the current in areas when it was even stronger than the norm.

From zz1666

Are Koopas the most dominant species on Plit?

We seem to have the best technology. But it’s not a cut and dry issue like in the Real World where Humans are the only native, sentient species.

From zz1666

In Peach’s event at the end of Chapter 3, she puts on an X-Naut uniform, meaning that X-Nauts are really some species under a uniform. So what species are the X-Nauts?

X-Nauts may look different without their uniform, but they’re still X-Nauts. It is their species; it’s not just a bunch of other characters that decided to up and join a cult or something.

Are Bandits a type of Shy Guy? Also why are Zeus Guys and Baseball Boys taller than other Shy Guys?

Yes, Bandits are a type of Shy Guy. I guess you could call them Thief Guys. But they don't normally associate with other kinds of Shy Guys. There's no particular reason why Zeus Guys and Baseball Guys are taller... Except that it might affect their chances of taking on those roles. It's kind of like how basketball players are usually tall even though they are, of course, still Human,

From Red Koopa

How does Mario not get hot in volcanic areas and not freeze in tundras?

He does, and sometimes you can see signs of it. He'll get sunburned on Isle Delfino without his hat, and take damage from the cold water in Snowman's Land of Mario 64. But, most of the time, surface temperatures are tolerable, if uncomfortable, at least for a limited time.

From P.T. Piranha

Why did Peach have all those paintings in Mario 64?

Nothing wrong with having pictures in the castle. If you ask me, the real question is why Peach has so many unfurnished, seemingly purposeless rooms. The pictures were decorations, and Peach did make some of them into warps, for fun getaways or escapes. She put an end to that when she found how Bowser used them. Some of the warps seen in the game were created by Bowser (Big Boo’s Haunt) or were accidental (the wall leading to Shifting Sands Land).

From P.T. Piranha

What color Lumas are the ones that become Power Stars?

Any colored Luma except black can become Power Stars, but yellow is the most common. (Though they cannot become Power Stars, black Lumas generally are the most respected among those that remain untransformed.) Rumor is that in far reaches of the universe other colors of Power Star are dominant.

From Tony Paratroopa

Are Luigi's fireballs really green?

No, actually they’re yellow with blue polka dots. Yes they’re green.

From Tony Paratroopa

In some of the games, Mario's fireballs are really balls of fire, and some have them looking like spiraling fire thinga. Are the fireballs apherical?

Well, it isn't as though the fireballs are flat discs. Yes, they are generally spherical, but they're not perfectly round either. They're imperfectly formed balls of fire and pain.

From P.T. Piranha

Are the purple coins worth anything in the Mushroom Kingdom?

The purple coins from Mario Galaxy's purple comet missions don't exist naturally in the MK so they don't have a known value. I guess if Mario were to sell the ones he found someone would decide what they're worth.

From DaisyGirl

Why does Iggy wear glasses instead of contact lenses?

He hoped Roy wouldn't hit him, because you know what they say about people with glasses. Needless to say, it didn't work. Bowser wouldn't pay to replace them later.

From Shrugger Shroob

If the Mario Bros. learned the Firebrand and Thunderhand powers in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, then why haven't they used them since?

They're not that useful in games because they're not projectiles, they have to get right up close to their target. And apparently the Mushroom Kingdom isn't littered with fire orbs and conductors of electricity like the Beanbean Kingdom is. Mostly the Marios just use those powers to annoy one another.

From Shrugger Shroob

Do Miis really exist in the Marioverse? It seems this way considering all of their Mario Kart Wii appearances.

No, they do not.

From Shrugger Shroob

Does Toad actually run a factory, or was it just built for Mario Kart Wii?

Yes. It's a sweatshop, and it's where he churns out... more Toads!

Actually no, it's just a course.

From Shrugger Shroob

Does Luigi know about his time as Mr. L?

Not first hand. He's heard about it afterwards, and does accept that it happened.

From Shrugger Shroob

If Mario was never paper, then why are all of his PM:TTYD transformations paper-themed?

There's no particular reason, apart from those were the powers the demons granted him.

From Tony Paratroopa

How does Mario get to different lands in the Mushroom Kingdom? Like Grass Land to Desert Land.

Stand in awe, for this incredible act is made possible by that legendary treasure known as, his feet! Yes, with this mythical gift from the gods, Mario steps forward first with one foot, then with the next, continuously on and on in a miraculous spectacle I am not half worthy to describe, until, having left new hallowed ground in his wake, he reaches his holy destination. Amen. And duh.

From ghettobananachris

How can Mario Kart racers afford so much real estate? DK has a mountain, a parkway, a summit, and pass; not to mention that Waluigi has an impressive pinball track. How can they pay for all that?

Most of the tracks are owned, paid for, and operated by the Mario Kart Federation. That’s part of the reason why some of these themed courses don’t have much to do with the character that owns it except for the name and some posters strewn about.

From P.T. Piranha

If Flipside and Flopside are between dimensions and not a real dimension, shouldn't it technically not be plagued by the void since it's not really a world?

The void was able to destroy all dimensions; its ability to move between them allows it to destroy what is in between it as well.

From P.T. Piranha

If you say Plit and Earth are the same place in different dimensions, where would Peach's castle be if it were Earth?

Hm… Plit and Earth are inherently in the same place based on the manner of the split, but the planets are not mirror images of each other.  They are not identical in size and do not have the same landmasses.  They also are no longer oriented the same way based on different rotational speeds and so on.  So this is not a question that can be answered.

From Mudkip

Why does it seem that Luigi keeps sliding on the ground when he stops running?

Luigi is faster and more skittish. He can't stop on a dime like Mario can.

From Phantos67

In Mario Kart DS how did the Red Shells home in on other karts? Were they invented by Professor E. Gadd or just natural?

It turns out to be a property of the Red Shells themselves. I can't explain the mechanism but it ties in with why red-shelled Koopas don't walk off cliffs.

From koomba

How do Mushrooms make karts boost in Mario Kart?

Drop 'em in the tank and they powerfully explode. The Golden Mushroom will explode numerous times before it's spent.

From Mudkip

Who was the real person that collected all those Star Bits and fired them at whatever the Star Cursor was pointing at? Does Mario even see the cursor?

The Luma did that, with some direction from Mario.  Probably not even he saw the cursor but it is a good visual aid.

From P.T. Piranha

How much of the Mario cartoons actually happened?

Just about all of it. The cartoonists may have taken some license here and there.

From P.T. Piranha

Are Wario and Waluigi plumbers too?

No, they don't even pretend like the Marios do.

From P.T. Piranha

If Peach's Toad in SSBB can spray poison, can all Toads do that?

No, and I've never seen Toad do that so I was surprised to hear about it from SSBB.

I know this game, a shooting game, and I think I just saw Iggy or Lemmy (I'm not sure which) in it. What are they doing on a rocket?

This is a reference to Super Scope 6, a SNES game that came out with the Super Scope gun accessory. Lemmy and Iggy appear as cameos. I think you got bonus points for shooting them down. This doesn't refer to anything in particular, but that does appear to be Mario's one-seater plane as first seen in Mario Land, and we have been known to fire ourselves at it... though usually an unmanned Bullet Bill will do.
